What is people's interest in having a camera?

The only way a camera would work is if it's like the iSight and right above the screen. Not to mention the only way this could be useful is just for Skype...as far as I can think.

I'm actually hoping against a camera. I'd rather have a OLED screen.

But they already have one on their cell phone. Faulty Logic.

They also have a mic on their phone, and an MP3 player..that doesn't affect the usefulness of those things on the Touch.
The camera is for a lot more than snap shots on the go. More and more apps are utilizing the cam. Bar code readers are a big one (the app that looks up best prices, manuals, etc on products). And that's just one. The cam has tons of use/potential as an input device for apps.

The nano has a camcorder, and yet the Touch, marketed as a do-everything PDA, a "great ipod" and a "great pocket computer" doesn't have a cam. The fact that it should have one is beyond any reasonable debate, and a significant failure on the part of Apple. Or a clever way to get everyone to immediately buy the new one with a cam. Leave out a major, obvious feature, then make another one with it. Smart I guess. Sleazy.

That's why he's putting it on the iPad. They will never put a camera on the iPod Touch until they have nothing better to do, but there's tons of things they need to improve. If the iPod Touch recieved everything that everyone asked for, there would be no iPhone. So stop asking, and stop thinking they'll put a camera on the iPod Touch. They never will. If I'm wrong, good for you. :apple:

Idiotic reasoning back to the fanboi "cannibalization" hand-wringing justification for crappy features. There are plenty of uses for a camera, nothing to do with whether it is a phone or not. This is an app device and should have access to those apps. Many people don't want or can't have an iPhone or have both. So stop moaning about it. Stop thinking they won't put a camera in, because it is coming. The reason there is not one in the iPad is so you'll buy iPad v2, you fell for that sucker v1 product again.

This a real reason now. For the many specific apps that are coming out that utilize the camera. I don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch so I don't know exactly what a cam can do on it with apps. Checking prices could seem like a good one but I hope it's not the only "good one."

For the record the Nano has a pretty low resolution camera for a company that always touts they only make high quality products.

I don't have a camera on my phone. Hell I don't carry a phone just one prepaid left in my car. Faulty assumption.

Ok, so 95%+ (a guess) of people with cell phones in this world have cameras on them already. The point I was making is that if people want "snap shots on the go" if they're going to buy an iPod Touch, more than likely they have a cell phone with a camera already so therefore it makes little sense with that reasoning.

I know your post has nothing to do with anything I'm saying and I'm just curious here, but using that logic can't you just say things like "Macs are considered media (music creation/manipulation, image creation/manipulation, video editing, etc) computers at a professional level and yet does not have Blu-Ray. It's coming though! You're buying the Macs right now without them but the *NEW* Macs will have them!" until a device or computer has a feature that you feel they should have had for a while?

im also in this minority. what is your purpose?

My purpose is wondering why so many actually want a camera in their iPod Touch. I realize not everyone has a camera phone but should I (for example) expect a TV Company to put a camera in their TVs or remotes for quick living room shots?

I realize the example isn't the best and it's poking fun at the whole wanting a camera thing, but seriously, do you REALLY want a camera on your iPod Touch? Do you really think it's a good idea? If you do, then how good do you think that camera will be? It can't be that great since they don't want to jack up the price too much (if anything). So then you'll end up with a cheap, low res camera on your iPod Touch. Great, another thing for people to complain about saying things like "wait till the 5th Gen that'll have a better camera!" or things such as that.

I'd rather have a few other things upgraded like an OLED screen, RAM, proc, battery life (I know it's long now, but more battery life is always better) and various other things like maybe aluminum backings one day (or at least the option for it).

1whoa! hold on, did you say you cameras on tv remotes???? you would either have to have a screen on your remote or havea cord hooking up to your pc or somehting, i guess veiwit on your tv, but then you could not do anthing with the photos if you do that. you would need wifi tv to put it to your email adress to print out! i know you said bad exsample, but still,

2 i under stand wat u are saying about the camera, but i want to havea camera on the touch wats not too like about that. {prices,maybe that lol}
i am not saying it would be wise for apple to do that, but the addiunce { including me} wants a camera.

Believe it or not there already are TV remotes with screens and hook up to a computer through USB.

Most important feature imo is a redesign. I want it to look more like an iPad. I'm tired of the shiny back that scratches when you look at it.

Then I'd say the usual RAM, processor boosts. A camera (still/video) for people like me who don't always bring their DSLR and want to take quick shots. And increased resolution screen like the iPhone is getting.

Then the not so necessary but useful ones, like a built in mic, vibrate, compass, front facing camera, etc.

so is it actually worth waiting until the 4th gen ipod touch comes out?
i think the refresh is in september some time?

I always looked at the iPod Touch as an iPhone that can't make phone calls. I always thought it should have a camera, a mic, just no calls or 3G. If the 4G Touch has a camera it would completely make it worth it.

Wishful thinking

The screen is already LED backlit. I find it quite bright enough already also.

+1 Camera
+1 Microphone
+1 Better speaker

That would be GREAT... But it'll never happen. If they added a cam and mic, anyone with a skype account and app would basically have an iPhone. Skype will must likely add MMS soon, and all that would be left separating iPod Touch and iphone would be 3G and GPS, both fairly minor features. But there has been talk of adding a camera. And they have external mics, so it actually might happen. But not for a while.

More features

Ooh, ooh, ooh, can I add another?

Gorilla Glass.

That stuff is amazingly tough.

I'm gonna add another one

Flash Player Lite in safari :apple:

Quicktime player :D;):D

A mute button on the side of the touch(which will be way easier then holding the volume until its all the way down.:apple:

And one of the most importants: Vibration.

One thing

Here is what should be in the 4th Generation iPod touch, add to the list.

I want-
LED/ OR OLED Screen, more likely LED.
Aluminum Back for no scratch, and(same glass screen) finger print resistance screen.
60% brighter screen
Cheap just like now, Drop the 8 GB and make it 16GB because 8 GB is a rip-off at $199.
Still/ Video Camera, 3.2 mega pixel camera.
40+ battery.
Same fast processor/ graphics GPU.

These should be on the two high end versions of iPod touch of 32 GB and 64 GB or even 128 GB if available.

16GB $199
32GB $299
64GB $399

POSSIBLE 128 GB $429

:apple:I am going to say one thing that would make the Ipod the best thing ever.:apple:

Wireless Sync.
