I have made some revising changes to the list of what I think the Next iPod Touch is going to have in store for us.

-iPhone 3GS's camera (3.2 Megapixel w/auto focus & video) with added flash on 32,64,128 models
-Built in microphone on 32,64,128 models
-No front facing camera
-Redesigned body, same glossy screen, aluminum body with black apple logo, possibly a hair thicker, headphone jack on top
-Better speaker quality, and sound quality while using headphones
-We will probably also see improved Apple earbuds this year since Apple has made the newer ones for four years now
Based on past history, chances are looking good for a truly rocking iPod touch 4th gen update.
Spec-wise the iPod touch has pretty well tracked the iPhone upgrades, except for a key few features.
CPU: 1st gen: 412 MHz. 2nd gen: 533 Mhz 3rd gen 600 MHz
Memory: 1st: 128 MB 2nd: 128 MB 3rd: 256 MB
Screen: all 320 x 480
Graphics: 1st/2nd: powervr mbx lite. 3rd: powervr sgx
wifi: all 80211g
Storage-wise. iTouch has always exceeded iPhone by about 2X. That will likely stay the same (32/64 GB).
So, new iPod touch will likely get the new screen, A4 processor, same RAM (unclear if 256 or 512MB) and wifi-N.
The key unknown features are camera, GPS, compass, gyroscope and videoconference. Likely to be in iPod touch 4th gen is gyroscope, since needed for games. GPS+compass is 50/50 I think. My prediction is rear camera will be there but front + video conference not. Keeps iTouch in the more like a "toy" or leisure device, while iPhone has more of a utilitarian function. Need some kind of product differentiation. Finally, likely no 3G iPod touch.
If trends hold, screen, A4, CPU, wifi-N would be very nice upgrades (almost 100%). Rear camera would be a fun addition.
Price would almost have to stay the same even for such a rocking upgrade, since it will bump up into iPad regime.
I am not too price sensitive, but I do not have an iPhone or iPod Touch (yet). Video recording would get me off the stump though.
Our current video camera goes unused just because it is too awkward for a single-purpose device. It is bulky, and editing an hour's worth of tape (even with iMovie) is a chore. (And long raw home movies are tedious, even for relatives.)
But a pocket size device that does lots of things in addition to shooting short vids means that I will always have it with me.
Are you all mentally retarded!?!?!? I mean a camera would be pretty cool, but that would just make it an iPhone! And if it had a data plan, guess what...IT WOULD BE AN IPHONE!
