Cameras

From the information i have gathered, they will not put cameras into the new ipod touch because the iPhone sales would drop tremendously. If you think about it, all you would need to add to make it an iPhone would be the phone part. So if you think about it, you are getting a decent iPhone without the phone or camera part at a very cheap rate.

After seeing the new design and SCREEN of the iPhone I really would like to see the iPod touch follow in its footsteps.
I basically want want 1) new design, 2) better screen 3)better battery 4) 10%~ price cut. Less interested about a camera unless it was the same as iPhone 4G (I'd say almost impossible)
I like my 2g ipod but it has a cracked screen and I think its partially water damaged but i'll wait to September to see what the new update brings.

Yes after seeing the iphone4 today i hope some of its features comes to the touch, like:

IPS 960x640 display
Gyroscope
More colors-a white ipod touch maybe.....or other colors
New design like iphone
A4 processor

Not to mention a 3.2MP camera with video recording and LED flash

If all this makes it to the touch then it would be perfect in my opinion, but even if it doesnt i'm still gonna get it b/c it will be faster, and more powerful than the previous ones guaranteed, and i dont have an ipod touch yet.

September needs to hurry and get here.

Based on past history, chances are looking good for a truly rocking iPod touch 4th gen update.

Spec-wise the iPod touch has pretty well tracked the iPhone upgrades, except for a key few features.

CPU: 1st gen: 412 MHz. 2nd gen: 533 Mhz 3rd gen 600 MHz
Memory: 1st: 128 MB 2nd: 128 MB 3rd: 256 MB
Screen: all 320 x 480
Graphics: 1st/2nd: powervr mbx lite. 3rd: powervr sgx
wifi: all 80211g

Storage-wise. iTouch has always exceeded iPhone by about 2X. That will likely stay the same (32/64 GB).

So, new iPod touch will likely get the new screen, A4 processor, same RAM (unclear if 256 or 512MB) and wifi-N.

The key unknown features are camera, GPS, compass, gyroscope and videoconference. Likely to be in iPod touch 4th gen is gyroscope, since needed for games. GPS+compass is 50/50 I think. My prediction is rear camera will be there but front + video conference not. Keeps iTouch in the more like a "toy" or leisure device, while iPhone has more of a utilitarian function. Need some kind of product differentiation. Finally, likely no 3G iPod touch.

If trends hold, screen, A4, CPU, wifi-N would be very nice upgrades (almost 100%). Rear camera would be a fun addition.

Price would almost have to stay the same even for such a rocking upgrade, since it will bump up into iPad regime.

Agree with almost all, except perhaps no 128GB version and prices would be $299/$399 for the true 4th gen touches. 128GB would exceed the iPad, which is problematic.

Also add wifi-N in there.

I have made some revising changes to the list of what I think the Next iPod Touch is going to have in store for us.

-Released On September 7, 2010 with updated line of iPods
-3.5" (Same size) screen at 960x480 Resolution
-New Capacities And Prices 16GB-$199 32GB-$249 64GB-$349 128GB-479
-ARM Cortex-A8 600MHz CPU on 16GB model
-Apple A4 CPU running at a downscaled 800MHz or possibly 1GHz on 32GB, 64GB, 128GB
-256MB RAM on all models
-iPhone 3GS's camera (3.2 Megapixel w/auto focus & video) with added flash on 32,64,128 models
-Built in microphone on 32,64,128 models
-No front facing camera
-Redesigned body, same glossy screen, aluminum body with black apple logo, possibly a hair thicker, headphone jack on top
-Better speaker quality, and sound quality while using headphones
-We will probably also see improved Apple earbuds this year since Apple has made the newer ones for four years now

Agree on all points.

For streamlined manufacturing, you would think the new iPod Touch will have the same screen / body as the iPhone 4. But the back of the recent Touches haven't been the same as their iPhone brothers...so who knows.

Hope the GPS / compass makes it in with the gyroscope (hope it's the same mechanism meaning they cant split it up). Camera would be nice too.

im torn between wanting it to look like the iPhone4 or like a miniature iPad with aluminum backing... since the alum. backing would reduce wifi signal im kinda leaning toward the iPhone format... really if they release essentially the iPhone without 3G or phone features I will likely buy the next iPod touch... I sold my G2 ipod touch to a friend last summer and Im really missing it now...

Hope they put a good camera on the new one so when i go to miami I can buy one and take pictures.:D

Is video recording too much to ask for?

I am not too price sensitive, but I do not have an iPhone or iPod Touch (yet). Video recording would get me off the stump though.

Our current video camera goes unused just because it is too awkward for a single-purpose device. It is bulky, and editing an hour's worth of tape (even with iMovie) is a chore. (And long raw home movies are tedious, even for relatives.)

But a pocket size device that does lots of things in addition to shooting short vids means that I will always have it with me.

I hope there is an iPod Touch for me in September. We thought long and hard about switching to AT&T (and the iPhone) back in January, so we will not be market for 19 months!

Hope they put a Radio on the new, when and if, iPod touch as they did with the Nano. If they do it will be perfect IMHO

Andy

I'm in the same boat. We want to take vids of the kids but conventional camcorder format is too cumbersome. Then you have deal with format issues to condense things to DVD.

I would ditch my 2nd gen touch for the 4th if it had a decent camera.

Ok, I bought the 32gb 3g ipt in september and I like it... I am going to sell it and buy the new one this september, so here's a few things...

So, my ipods internals have these things in them...
A FM radio
A FM transmitter
802.11N
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
A camera slot

So here is my idea of ipt 4...
Gyro- very likely
Retina display- pretty likely
New case design (slimmer or not than the iphone 4)- maby
GPS- maby
Mag sensor- I'm not sure...
$ Cameras $
Rear:
Nano- very likely
iPhone 2g/3g- pretty likely
iPhone 3gs- maby/pretty likely
iPhone 4- maby
Front (video chatish)- not likely but Apple does need more face time people so its not sure....
A4 chip- very likely
Mic- for sure if any camera, if no cameras, then very likely...
FM radio- most likely not
FM transmitter- Nope
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR- I'm not sure
More GB- most likely no
3G- Nope
And cheaper?- Nope

More than that!

I would want more space than 8 GB's because you're right about the over pricing of the 8 GB iPod Touch, but also a retina display like the new iPhone 4. That would really add to the 4th iPod Touch's new design. A camera would be a necessity on the new iPod Touch BUT, so would a microphone. that way you wouldn't need to buy those overpriced headphones that have a mic on them and you'd be able to record voice memos and use apps like "Glee" and "I Am T-Pain" to autotune your voice and do recording without those annoying headphones. Not only would a longer battery life be nice, but also their A4 software chip which would make the new iPod faster than ever before. The new iOS4 software on the iPod Touch 3d Gen. has made it more useful and more fun to use. They upgraded the software, now it's time for apple to upgrade the design.

wish list

I pod touch is massively underused and i can't understand why they haven't done two things. sell it at best buy as a gps device and with the cameras as a camera.
Why can't they install an optical lense on this thing and sell it as a camera? or even no optical lens. Maybe they will with the photo editing software and 5mp camera.
let get Google on this and tom tom and make this a great gps device please!
I want this to become like the ipad and get a data card slot so i can use this thing as a skype phone or maybe some kind of software to allow a fixed #. apple is rumered to be pushing cloud stuff.
If it is only wifi it will be a solid back. if they allow 3g/4g (multiple carriers since it isn't an iphone) a line down the middle of the back. the back becomes the antenna since adding sides would make it thicker.

*:apple: i want flash! i need my mobile porn*

A camera, really?!

Are you all mentally retarded!?!?!? I mean a camera would be pretty cool, but that would just make it an iPhone! And if it had a data plan, guess what...IT WOULD BE AN IPHONE!

I think they pretty much have to have a drastic change in the iPod touch, especially if Apple wants current touch owners to upgrade. If they keep it basically the same but only add the retina display, new processor and more ram that will leave little reason for current touch owners to upgrade. If they have even just a rear camera or if they do add facetime to the touch then I think pretty much every current touch owner would upgrade netting apple more sales.

My problem is I have an old outdated Flip video camera and I am looking for an inexpensive way to upgrade, instead of buying another flip. If the touch had video recording then I would always have it on me so I could record more videos and for those moments when you want to record a video but don't want to lug a bulky video camera. Same with a digital camera. Yes I know a flip camera isn't exactly bulky and video camera's used to be a whole lot worse but now I have to carry a digital camera and a flip if I just want to take videos and pictures. If the touch did it all it would be less expensive to replace my outdated equipment, plus I would be able to replace 2-3 (video camera, still digital camera, and mp3 player) devices with just one.

The DSi is also out there (soon to be the 3DS), so if Apple wants to compete, I think they have to add at least some kind of camera to the touch. Personally I wouldn't buy a device with a 0.3mp camera because that is just a joke in this day and age especially when I already have a DS Lite. IMO I don't even have one yet but apple's touch offers a lot more than the DS does, as long as you don't mind giving up the nintendo IP games like Mario, and frankly I don't play those anyways. The web browser and MP3 player on the DSi are a joke as well, adding to the fact that DSi ware games are stuck on your DSi and cannot be transferred to a new system if you upgrade your system, lose it or it breaks. I see A LOT more kids with iPod touches these days then kids with DS's, and most kids I know have traded their DS or given it up for an iPod touch. There will be people who will still get the new DS for Mario and Pokemon games, however Apple can really make a splash in the gaming market and cut into Nintendo's sales if they release a huge touch update this September.

No, it wouldn't, are you stupid? It wont have calling, GPS and alot of other things. I'm pretty sure it wouldnt make a huge difference if they added data because most people that have an iPhone also use the calling and GPS.

As long as we see the Retina display and a camera, I'll be snapping up the highest Gigabyte model! :apple:
