The only issue I see with the 5.4 inch, Is actually trying to get your ‘hands’ on one, because I suspect it will be back ordered through 2020.

It still looks closer to the size of an iphone 7 than the SE. I don't think the SE people will be that impressed, however, I think apple will be filling a need with this size phone for sure.

That will be my device! Not to small, but also not to big. Nice to fit in the pocket. Perfect.

If it’s smaller than anything else they currently sell that’s something I suppose, and better than them not doing that. Would prefer they just made it the same size as the original SE though. I’d have the size of the iPhone 4 back in a heartbeat. I’m happy for others to have as huge an iPhone as they want, I just wish there was a new model that was smaller.

Never say never, Apple has proven it is capable of changing it's mind and bringing something back. Pro audio people use headphones with jacks, as bluetooth simply isn't quality enough. There is still a jack on all Macs, including of course, the ultimate flagship, the Mac Pro. Removal of the jack from iPhones never made any sense in the first place, it was, and is, simply hubris.

The line/phones out in Macs an iPhones have been getting continually worse in terms of analogue audio quality. The one in the original iPod Shuffle (the white USB stick thingy) was surprisingly good and that's actually what I still use (with various decent headphones) to check an audio engineer's work on the go. Having no screen distraction is a bonus.

Anyone working with audio on a Mac has a little audio interface where they can plug in monitor speakers and high impedance headphones.

I like to listen to a podcast with a 15 minute timer to fall asleep (think of it as ASMR), so I have one bud in one ear, volume to minimum and phone charging at the same time. With lightning headphones, I would not be able to charge overnight (or is there an adapter?) and with Airpods I'd constantly lose them. And I'm not too comfortable with having a bluetooth device right in my ear every night for 8 hours, I assume they're on standby and just listening for the phone's signal after a while of no audio though.

My original SE is still smaller, and more than fast and capable enough for my uses. Size/weight is more important than anything for my use on the move hiking and cykling.
I have yet to experience any sluggishness on any app on my SE, so why "upgrade"?

When Jony Ive used to repeatedly talk about "very tuff design decisions" in interviews, he was not kidding. I would have nightmare to make these decisions that affect hundreds of millions of people's daily lives.

I have my doubts about getting the 5.4” iPhone 12, or waiting to the rumored port-less 5.5” iPhone 13. Why? Because iPhone 13 will have (reportedly):

- Much better cameras, with nearly 50MP and a revolutionary new technology
- LTPO Screens to allow always-on displays
- Probably a much faster A15 SoC, built on the same 5nm but probably with an all new architecture to diferentiate it from the iPhone 12
- Due to not having a port, the battery can be bigger, thus, better batter life.

On the other hand, I don’t want a port-less iPhone because I like to plug it in to charge while I’m using it, and because I like to perform clean installs of iOS (DFU Restores) and I doubt I will be able to do this on a port-less iPhone. So... What would you do?
I may have missed this, but what leak or rumor shows a 5.5” portless iPhone launching in 2021?

"Weight, weight, please tell me!"

Pocket weight got away from them with iPhone X.
The new iPhone SE seems just about right.

I also have an iPhone SE and its battery life is just garbage nowadays(on IOS 13). That's the only thing thats making me want to update.

Honestly my SE1 battery life is fine on iOS 13. Are you using SE1 or SE2? If you are using an SE1 I suggest you check your battery health. It's about $50 for new battery from Apple.

Good riddance slippery soap bar design. Never loved, merely tolerated.

Ordinarily I’d be all over this compact beauty to replace my X, but I’m worried I might be tempted by the Pro camera/LIDAR features and having got used to the 5.8 X, the 6.1 12 would feel natural.

Seeing the 2 photo I have to ask again WHY is there no headphone jack. There certainly is space for it.
Because it would be cowardly to go back after so many years of telling us it took “bravery” to remove it 🙄

Seriously though, like it or not, the world has moved on and wireless ear/headphones are the norm now.

Now that's the phone I've been waiting for.... as long as it's not heavy.... the iPhone X was so heavy! I went back to my iPhone SE and used it for two more years, but then switched to an iPhone XR and it's too heavy again!
I for one welcome the heaviness. In a small form factor, it adds to the premium feel IMO. I hope this stainless steel baby is the weight of a neutron star personally.

Finally I can drop my 6S. waiting for this since the day the iPhone X was announced. Amazing, can't wait

Wow that's patience. Shame as you missed out on 3 years of having a fantastic (not perfect) phone whilst you were waiting. I'm going to be sad to leave my X.

Happy to find I'm not still using my little SE alone! But it's time, and iZac's comparo has me excited that the 5.4 will really be the next best thing. Thanks dude!
