But the REAL question is...How thin will it be?
Because to Tim and Johnny, thin is in! (At the expense of precious battery life.)

Sorry, I don't care about 2017 or 2018. Many things will change by then. I am more concerned about Apple this year.
Seriously. Seems that iPhone 7 is the upgrade to skip.

Same here. I love Apple and iOS but there are some things I expect the iPhone 7 to have. If it doesn't have wireless charging, fast charging and better screens, I may have to get over my hate for Android
In all honesty, a Nexus 6P running stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 is a pretty darn good user experience. Closest thing you'll get to iOS. Can't vouch for Samsung, LE, Sony or any other OEM that bloats Android with their custom crapware.

Keeping it a reasonable size is totally doable if Apple finally gets rid of the humungous bezels!
And if Jony isn't allowed to run amuck on the thinness front it ought to have good battery life as well.

i hope they will do something to its screen to body ratio, other wise an iphone with dimensions of 160x80mm this is mini tablet size and not even the phablet

The news comes from a pre-publication report by DigiTimes that has been obtained by The Motley Fool

So not only is this another DigiTimes rumor, but it's from a DigiTimes report that hasn't even been released yet but was somehow obtained by a third party. Ok, sure, so we're going there now.

As for the speculation about new display sizes, I wish Apple would just simplify things. I know I've mentioned this before, but I'd like the following in the future (probably after the iPhone 7/7s which I tend to believe will keep the current sizes).
  • 4" iPhone with significantly reduced bezel
  • 5" iPhone with significantly reduced bezel
  • 6" iPhone with significantly reduced bezel
There's something for everyone and it's clear and simple. All models are considered flagships. When it's absolutely impossible to fit a new feature into a smaller model, then only put it into the larger model and incorporate it into future smaller models if possible. Be clear in explaining this. Like if you just can't fit 3D Touch into the 4" model then say so. If you can't fit 256GB chips into anything but the largest size, then ok. As for core specs, keep them as similar as possible with only clock speed increases for larger models that can dissipate heat more efficiently and have larger battery capacity. More RAM might be allowed under this exception as adding additional RAM modules can sometimes reduce battery life, depending on what generation we're talking about and how small they can get their packages. The way I understand it (and I may be wrong) is that adding an extra RAM module to their chip package results in more power consumption. But going from a 1GB package to a 2GB package of higher density on a new process doesn't really. Right?

That all being said, if the dual-camera system is a huge upgrade as rumors have suggested, I'd prefer they do whatever possible to get it into every model size—even if they have to make them a little thicker to make room. The camera is one of the most used features on the iPhone, so it shouldn't be left behind on smaller devices, within reason. If it absolutely can't fit, explain that clearly and that you're working on miniaturizing the technology or whatever. And for the love of everything, please find a way to fit OIS on smaller iPhones!

"we" who? I was perfectly happy with iPhone 4 thickness. I'd rather get a lot better battery life than a slimmer phone. Can't really see the advantage of a 5.8" display either and I still don't see a point in buying a phone without the 3,5mm jack at this point of time.

It appears there's nothing to look for in the iPhone 7. I'll just skip a generation hoping they'll realize their mistake bring the jack back for iPhone 8. Or maybe I'll finally have a new car and buy bluetooth dongles for all the places I currently use my phone in. Not holding my breath waiting for that to happen for just a PHONE. Even less so am I going to waste a cent in lightning-enabled headphones.

At least I've replaced my macbook retina 15" with a Chromebook in most situations. Mac beats it in every aspect except for one: Battery life. I can easily squeeze 15 hours out of the chromebook compared to ~5 I can get out of the mac. Guess which one I rather drag around when I have to be able to rely on the battery to work. For the last few weeks mac's been just my home "desktop". Give me a phone with 2+ day battery, screw the other features.
THIS 1000x!

What's up with needing thinner than iPhone 6/6S? Sure, reduce the camera size so that it sits flush, but any thinner than the current form is stupid. Unless we're going with bendable materials?

So how do you hold it horizontally?
By holding the edges like everyone else who has smaller bezels on their mobile phones. (Not saying we need edge-to-edge glass.) Just that some iPhone bezel slimming is long overdue. Can't wait.

But what about the home button? I think Apple's trademark of that round physical home button is going to stop them ever having a really good screen to handset ratio
What about the old iPod scroll wheel? It was a hallmark and iconic function on those devices. Those iPods and iMacs put Apple back on the map.

So basically what this is saying is in 1-2 years we'll have:

iPhone se, bad specs, many features missing
iPhone, normal specs, features missing
iPhone + normal specs, few features missing
iPhone pro: good specs

Rip 4-4.7 phone users
That's bs. These iPhones are missing features because they are too small to have them. It's not like Apple is withholding these features on purpose. They have no incentive to do that, because people who want a 4" phone won't ever buy a 5.5" phone, there is no upsell here.

Iphone 4/4S 3.5 inch
Iphone 5/5S 4 inch
Iphone 6/6S 4.7/5.5 inch
we might be due to change.
Well, the design change for 7 series we'll see this fall. Might be that case for 5.8 inch.
Might also happen for 8 series, coming in 2018, which is more plausible.
One possibility is that 5.8 inch may mean not longer but wider iPhone.
Dimensions proportions changed with 4 inch iPhone 5/5S, making it longer.
These proportions remained with 4.7 inch iPhone 6/6S.
Might be due to change in proportions again, so visually iPhone 5.8 inch will not be longer, but a tad wider/

Obviously, there is a market for phablets, but Apple should stop ignoring the market for phone-sized iPhones. There hasn't been a new phone-sized iPhone since the iPhone 5S was released 2.5 years ago. Not everyone wants a 4.7" or larger phablet.

5.8 is fine if the bezel is kept to a minimum like the note 5 5.7 screen. But otherwise I wouldn't want a 5.8 screen if the bezels are going to be fat.

clearly you havent tried a Galaxy Edge

True. I haven't. When I was choosing between the S6 and Edge, I looked over the many reports of the touch screen being unresponsive and chose the S6 because that one didn't have them.

The large ones are cool. But the small one should go back to original iPhone screen size for usability. The 4" screen was a poor choice when they knew should have gone much bigger at that point. Telling that 4" lasted just one iteration.

I know some will love this. As a guy who owned the iPhone 6, and then the iPhone 6S Plus, the plus is just a bit too big for me. I can't reach my thumb across the screen all the way so typing with one hand is tough. If there were smaller bezels on the 5.5" device, then maybe... but increasing the screen size even more? My guess is that I'll go back to the 6S size screen when the 7 comes out.

If Samsung can put a 5.7" screen in a package smaller (all be it just slightly) than an iPhone 6 Plus, sure Apple can do it.
They need to get rid of the upper and lower bezel.

Easier said than done. Apple is deeply tied to Touch ID technology which requires a sizable home button
