LG announced https://www.techpowerup.com/337648/lg-unveils-ultrafine-40wt95uf-40-inch-monitor-with-thunderbolt-5

Do you thibk its going to support 3840x1620 HiDPI just like the Dell?
Well, this is strange. LG just announced a new 40” 5K2K 120 Hz IPS monitor that looks an awful lot like the 40WT95UF, but it’s called the 40U990A-W. (Looks like it’s a Japan-only release for the moment.)

Edit: I just did a comparison of the two on the Display Specifications site, and they appear to be identical with a few extra features mentioned for the 40WT95UF version. See attached.

You know that unreleased LG 6K 32" retina IPS with a "designer" look? Its model number is 32U990A. Name is way too similar to this 40U990A for them to have completely different approach. Something is off.

Hello,
I'm looking for a 49 inch monitor that would be able to run 3840x1620 HiDPI.
Are there any known working models at this size?

Sorry, I'm not very technical and this thread is a lot of information and a bit confusing for me.

I am planning on buying an M4 Pro Mac mini, and the LG 45" 45GX950A-B next month - but is this thread saying that I will be wasting my money, as the Mac mini won't be able to drive the monitor at correctly scaled HiDPI resolutions?

Maybe point newbies to my post after the colloquial (and, in retrospect, ambiguous for non native English speakers) "bullet for team"... the one that features a zoomed in screen shot of 3840 X 1620 res?

Ah thanks. I had seen that post, but wasn't sure what it was saying, as the poster said they were "taking another bullet for the team", which to me means it DIDN'T work. But... it does? If so, that's great, I'll go ahead with my new home studio!
It's amazing. But. The 800 curve is very steep, and a bit of a shock to wrap your mind around:
-
Any "timeline" style editing apps - FinalCut, Premiere, Logic, DaVinci, with long horizontal lines from left to right, they 100% will appear 'warped'. I have calibrated (my perception) by looking at the screen as distinct "zones", off the vertical centre. Left hand side and right hand side - parking content into, sort of, "cupped" boxes, where the distortion effect isn't as pronounced.
-
It took me two weeks to really 'love' the curve. And there's no choice really for this panel until the other LG bendy one comes out later in the year (but that will probably be double the price, on an already premium priced monitor?)
-
I'd suggest you look at it in store BEFORE you purchase, if you can?
-
Otherwise, it's incredible. Gorgeous, stunning.

Thanks! Although I see that is the M4 Max... would the Pro be any different? Less capable with display outputs, I know, but I won't be running multiple monitors.

Unfortunately I live in the UK, and there are no stores that have it on display, even in London.

There are Several examples by now showing this display to be showing the correct scaling resolutions on M4 Pro/Max chips.

There are confirmed users on the mini M4 base model (non pro), being able to achieve 3840 x 1620 (crispy, "HiDPI") on the Dell - 120Hz - 5120 x 2160.
-
The hi refresh - 120Hz, and above - seems to be the trigger for 3840 x 1620 scaling option, natively. On ANY M4 Mini variation, from the M4 Mini base model and above (btw - anyone have an M4 Mac Air to confirm too?)
-
I'm a good case study, as I have a 75Hz 5120 x 2160 AND the 'Max' Studio M4 top-of-the-line GPU, and even that wouldn't unlock 3840 x 1620, on a 75Hz monitor.
-
Yes, I have two 5120 x 2150 monitors: A 75Hz one (40 inch size "Kogan") and a 165Hz One (45 inch-LG)

Recently my employer gave me new MacBook with m4 pro chip. So for my Dell U4021QW it allows to set "looks like 3360x1418" out of the box. It is not ideal but much better then I had with m4 Mac mini. I guess m4 max chip will allow the same scaling as m4 pro.

So if somebody on the market for new purchase and has Dell U4021QW or similar display I would recommend to purchase Mac with M4 Pro/M4 Max. You will have much better experience with your monitor than with M4 Mac.

Note: Flexible scaling in better display doesn't allow to set higher than this, only lower. Next is native resolution which is too small.

At this point, I would just wait for M5 if you don't want to use BetterDisplay's mirrored virtual-display hack.

I know it's beta software, but Tahoe is acting funny sometimes when I wake up my MacBook Pro (m4 pro) from sleep - my connected 5k 60hz display isn't recognised and defaults to 480p 4:3 and maxes out at like 768p resolution. Restarting and unplugging, replugging, turning on-ff the monitor sometimes fixes it. I was perhaps naively hoping they would fix this damn issue from this thread so was trying it out... Anyone else having this issue?
