Article does not tell what was in that truck and if it was targeted there is a close to 100% chance of some insider being involved.

So what if a big part of the cargo was stuff like chargers, cases and so on?

Dump the Mac&iPhones as they are to "hot" and just sell the rest through street markets and other "shady" venues.

Sure profit will only be a fraction of the value, but might still be worth it.

Plot twist: Apple announces feature to remotely disable the chipset through the Secure Enclave and phone home within 10 feet of precision with the new, in-built AirTag.

I doubt the thieves will be activating them. They'll likely offload them on the black market and the poor soul who ends up with one will have to bear the brunt of the law if they're pursued.
100% this. The thieves aren’t concerned with serial numbers or anti theft measures. £500 for an iPhone 12 Pro Max for example. People will jump on it and the boxes will be sealed as well which would help with the sale as any prospective buyers would be convinced they were genuine.

Doesn't Apple keep a record of serial numbers on all their products that are unregistered? I know if an iPhone gets lifted, Apple shuts it down.

This is also an excellent reason why Apple makes their devices so hard to repair.
If they were more easily fixable, then you would see more theft of devices for parts.

There are so many speed cameras that issue tickets that I'm sure they can be used to track this
Speeds camera’s are only activated once they are triggered by a speeding vehicle, they would also have to trigger following cameras afterwards.
ANPR camera’s are triggered by each vehicle though and they can be used to follow a specific vehicles route.
On top of this it’s also possible to follow the phone signals of those in the vicinity and follow them as well.

Stupid thieves if you ask me, They don't think there is a manifest with every device Serial # of every device in that shipment. Those will be flagged the second they are to be activated. LOL
True! But they aren't going to tell that to the people they sell them to. The people who buy these devices will be fresh outta luck, unfortunately.

I can't believe I'm going to write this as it sounds so pedantic but as some other people have already posted along these lines, I'm going to join in... 😉

We don't have "highways" in the United Kingdom. We call them Motorways (that's what the "M" is in "M1").

I'll get my coat.

What is this Highway you speak of? I'm pretty sure we don't have any of them. We had highwaymen once, but that was a few hundred years ago.
Motorways are called motorways here yes, but we still have highways!

There are signs on A roads everywhere warning of animals straying on the highway.

And highways England is in charge.

And the highway code.

And these people are clearly ‘Highway men’!

doesent matter to the theives...they already are sold before they are activated....duh.

They didn’t just plan this to have dead devices. There must be something they can do with them apart from parts.

Maybe Apple supply chain doesn’t log each serial number, maybe batch numbers (which probably have a part number and maybe serial)

so maybe the devices are useable?

maybe these were going to another retailer warehouse like Curry’s or John Lewis and maybe serial numbers are not logged?

Interesting , very interesting!

Not reading any further into I’m taking all caught up in this are ok..

That said perfect scripture for new Apple TV movie right there in the making!

This used to happen to Dell when they were moving product from Mexico to the US. After the first heist they took the "Dell" logo off of their trucks. It's like painting "steal me" on the side of the truck.
