All these threads? There are a bunch of whiners and millions, literally, of satisfied users...
From the tests I've made (playing with both in an Apple Store for more than forty minutes doing almost every thing but phone calling) there is absolutely nothing laggy in the new iPhone, compared to my iPhone 5S.

----------

Blame the keyboard you installed, not Apple.
I'm using Swype on both the iPad and the iPhone and I didn't have a single failure.

Well I've seen 3 or 4 threads that were quite active about it, I just assumed either some people might not care enough to notice. I just played with a display 6+ and I thought I noticed some but I didn't get to use it long I need to go back and use it again.

The App situation is abysmal. I mean, I have yet to find/use 1 single App that is designed/optimized for the iPhone 6 Plus.

All of the Apps are blown up and they look terrible. Whey is nobody talking about this and why did all the reviews of the iPhone 6 Plus gloss over this?

Answer: Because a lot of them are fanboys but basically, it's because people thought the situation would improve quickly as App Developers updated to the larger screen.

No, not this time boys. The reason as I've stated before is that this screen demands custom interfaces/designs.

This is not going to just fix itself and the App situation will not improve on the Plus anytime soon. And no, excuses like Apple is so busy approving updates don't wash anymore. I've done 25+ updates and all they are is iOS 8 compatibility updates, not design updates for the 6 Plus.

Developers have to completely rethink and redesign their Apps for this phablet. This is a problem, especially with now nano iPhones still out for sale (e.g., 5C) and yet another size (4.7").

Why do you care so much if 6+ owners report their issues when you don't even own a 6+?

I did get Zen garden.

I was kidding, that's why I had. :D I wasn't kidding about no lag though.

You can't possibly tell there isn't any animation stutter when panning out in Zen Garden on 6 Plus? I've had a few people on this board tried it out and they notice it right away, it's not smooth compared to the 6 but it's already been determined its a scaling issue due to the higher resolution on the 6 Plus and the GPU not being able to handle it (same GPU as the 6)

Judging from my own experience (no lag, super smooth) and the other replies I think it's safe to say you either have a bad phone or your settings are different than most users. You are in standard and not zoomed correct?

Perhaps restore as new and start over.

In standard. I have restored and set up as new.

Nearly all the apps on my home screen are iPhone 6/+ optimized now. Fantastical, Evernote, Tumblr, Tweetbot, Twitter, Transit, New York Times Now, the Wikipedia official app, Instapaper, Day One, and I keep getting updates on a daily basis. The phones were announced 3 weeks ago, give it time for developers to even test their apps on these devices.

I have some stutter and also notice some lag and glitches. I'm pretty confident it's software issues and not my phone. The iPad Air initially had horrible glitches literally kicking you out of Safari when you had multiple tabs going. It was so bad that I tried two other web apps and they weren't much better. A couple of updates later the issue was resolved. I'm pretty sure we'll see the same in the near future.

Yes but it sure took a long time for them to optimize iOS 7 for iPad Air, at least it seemed that way to me, and I hope it doesn't take as long to clean up for 6+. I think it's larger problems with iOS 8, not 6+ itself as I am also having some noticeable issues with my iPad Air since I updated to iOS 8 last Friday, mainly native keyboard issues, Mail problems (gmail password) and crashing in Safari & Chrome.

I think Apple needs to invest more time, effort, and resources in the software area. The last couple of iOS versions have made it hard to keep believing the "it just works" mantra which used to be a fact, not wishful thinking. It is obvious there is a lack of leadership in this area possessing Steve Jobs' penchant for perfectionism. Half-baked releases make it harder to justify claims of Apple superiority over Android or Windows-based OS.

I agree. I used to be all about "Apple products just work". You are right - it's disappointing to see these awful launches. I bought the iPad Air last year and now the Plus this year. So my last two hardware upgrades have both been plagued with the problems. I do hope they fix the bugs quickly.

Make another video and do the following--

In the App Store, click on the screenshot of any app, while looking at the screenshots, rotate the phone. Framerate drop is abysmal.

There are frame rate drops on the 6+ that do not exist on my 5S. Whether it's due to the downsampling, lack of software optimization, or an underpowered GPU, remains to be seen. Those that don't see it? Great. Not everyone perceives frame rate issues the same way.

When I scroll, say in the optimized for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Tweetbot, or in the App Store, instead of the smooth scrolling everyone is used to and loves about iOS and iPhone, it stutters and jerks.

My brother has an s5, and it performs better than this, as does my iPhone 5. I have restored through iTunes and set up as a new phone to no avail. My uncles 6 is butter, and I wish that this issue had been mentioned in reviews before I purchased the phone. If it acts like this brand new, it will be horrendous in a year or two.

Just general unrefinement everywhere, feels like I'm running a beta on my phone.

My question is, is the scrolling lag and choppiness due to the scaling for the 6 Plus, or could it be fixed in an iOS update?

mine doesnt stutter or jerk, its smooth and fast as hell. you just have a lemon. make lemonade or something.

Everyone knows the + was a rush job. Prior to the launch, the expectation was that it was months away and was coming with a tangible benefit (like a sapphire screen) to differentiate it from the 6.

Instead, we got a device that came with a 1920x1080 screen because Apple saved time and money instead of waiting for supply chains to ramp up, forcing downscaling to be necessary on everything it displays.

It's a HARDWARE fault. It LAGS. The 5S doesn't. Neither does the 6. Stop blaming ios 8 and get a grip: it's the downscaling.

I'm amused that people are so desperate for a big screen they accept the flaw. It's been a hallmark of iOS from the very beginning that it's lag free compared to android, and that simply isn't the case with the +.

Rationalize it all you want, but Apple sold you gimped hardware. Maybe it's "good enough" but that's a sad statement for a brand new "flagship".

They should have just waited and used a non downscaling screen... Oh wait... They will: the 6S+

Let's wait and see what the next iOS 8 SW does. Give it a chance to optimize much like iOS 7 did with 7.1 before you make unfounded blanket statements like "it's a hardware fault"

No lag on mine either. They must be holding it wrong.

I also have the same problems as OP. Especially in the App Store. I knew I was holding it wrong all along. Let's start with simple questions. Do you hold it in your left hand or your right hand :D

So you want Apple to make less durable phones? WTF would you want them to do that?

I just want Apple to make good phones. I don't care about torsion resistance. Only in your parallel dimension torsion resistance = durability.
My phone, ANY PHONE, is much more prone to drops than bends. Proof me the new iPhone is less drop resistant and you'll have a valid point.

Bull. People stow iPhones in their pockets far more often than they drop them.

If it was a hardware issue, everyone who owned a 6+ would be having the same problem.

I'm not.

My wife has been having issues with her 6. My 6 seems to be fine.

Aside for the minor bugs in iOS 8 here and there, I really haven't had any issues. I wish devs were a little quicker to update their apps, but as someone else pointed out, I'm getting multiple updates daily so I'm sure its only a matter of time.

It really hasn't been that long.

I'm running into iOS 8 bugs on a daily basis, to the point that I'm starting to get kind of frustrated. But I don't really see anything about the hardware that's causing problems. If there are performance differences between the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus they are pretty subtle under normal circumstances.
