Apple had good intentions with iOS 7, it's just frustrating from now until they fix the various bugs that have such a negative impact on apps and such. I've never seen so many updates for apps nearly everyday, and that's the good news since the developers are being quite responsive. It'll all work out at some point.

"many"
"some"
"a few"

It's impossible to tell from this article if this is even unusually many being discontent with an iOS upgrade. I guess it's too much to ask for polls or survey results at news sites nowadays.

Funny how they got an exact percentage of upgrades there.

Too bad that didn't help the article with its point in the slightest.

It took a few days but I love iOS7 as well. Even the calendar is growing on me when I look at some of the other options out there I still end up liking the new one better.

There are a few issues but they'll be weeded out with updates.

As for my friends, I agree with those saying that most like the new OS. I will say that those on 5 or 5S seem to like it better than those with older models.
But both groups believe it is a step in the right direction.

The problem with ANY redesign is that there will be a crowd who thinks it's for the better, and another crowd who thinks it's for the worse. For the vast majority of the users, they will find some new great features that they enjoy, and just learn to adjust and roll with the ones that they don't like as much. For the rest of the very small vocal minority, they will continue to wail, gnash teeth and strip their garments, claiming on internet tech forums that it's the end of Apple's leadership of a company, find one or two new features to congregate around and bash, and finally threaten to run to Android if Apple doesn't immediately put things back the way they were. As the saying goes, "don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!".

The great new features of IOS 7 are overshadowed by the horrible graphics. This is not a win nor a success. Its a fail as nothing can be used without going through that interface.

No one here, as well as apple, should expect that users will see the potential of the OS or get used to it.

The best thing Apple can do...add a whole bunch of switches and options to turn off that horrible interface.

And get rid of J Ives....this is his mess.

iOS 7 generates passion if nothing else.

This is the first time I am aware of such passion abut an iOS. Stronglly negative with one exception.

I am talking with people with real ives. They don't hang on forums defending anything Apple does or condemning anything Apple does. Normal users who buy phone for the function.

They are not happy. I have not upgraded so I cannot give a first hand opinion. My lack of upgrading may be construed as one take on the new iOS.

IOS 5 got strong positives form people i talked to. That OS had huge feature enhancement.

Probably fair to say that iOS7 has caused more complaints than any version before it though.

I'd say iOS 6 caused a lot more complaints. First of all, Maps didn't work. Second, it broke Exchange compatibility for about 2 months. Finally, it caused battery drain issues (just as it seems all new iOS versions do).

I'm actually not surprised how low this number is.

Apple loves to talk about how many people use the newest versions of their operating systems, and how Android doesn't. I believe most people aren't updating to iOS 7 for two reasons.

Most obviously, the design. With any big change, there will people who love it, and there will be people who either dislike it or are not used to it. The number who like it (or are at least willing to bear with it) will increase over time.

Secondly, there's no jailbreak out for iOS 7. Many people such as myself will wait for an iOS 7 jailbreak for upgrading to it on a lot of our devices.

i'm sorry but most people don't have an excuse.

iOS 7 was shown to the public in MAY this year and has been on the news and forums since.

did people really expect it would be something else when they received it?

the minute the presentation of iOS 7 ended i knew i wasn't getting neither iOS 7 nor the iphone 5S/C/X/Q/B...
While I don't disagree with you I do recall quite a few posts, responding to people who didn't like iOS, that went like this: "It is not done yet! Get it? BETA!!!!! Wait till GM before you judge it."

 What in the world are you talking about? Low? Has there ever been an OS adopted at a faster rate than iOS 7?

I've never gone the jailbreak route before, but my level of dislike for iOS 7 is high enough that I will do it this time. Performance on my (admittedly older) devices is unacceptably poor.

The great new features of IOS 7 are overshadowed by the horrible graphics.

I like the graphics as do many. This is strictly an opinion or a matter of personal taste, NOT a fact.

No one here, as well as apple, should expect that users will see the potential of the OS or get used to it.

I am already used to it. And I'm here, so "no one" is wrong. I think it's great. And it's not good to speak in absolutes; i.e. "always", "never", etc.

And get rid of J Ives....this is his mess.

Who is "J Ives"? I am assuming you mean "Jony Ive"; funny how fast the rage goes from Forestall to Ive...

When I mean low, I mean relative to other iOS updates. Before iOS 7 was out, 93% of iPhone users were on iOS 6.

 That was after 8 or 9 months! The only reports that I have seen put iOS 7 adoption faster than previous iOS updates.

No one likes Windows 8, Surface tablets aren't selling, Windows 8 phones aren't selling. So who in their right mind at Apple would think that a blurry version of a Windows 8 theme with smaller tiles/icons would be acceptable for iOS 7? I love the new features such as random reboots and lockups when trying to open the Music app or being able to receive iMessages but not send them.

iOS 7 is a shoddy product matched with terrible design, and blurry graphics. Unfortunately we are stuck with it until next year when iOS 8 comes out. All we can do is be vocal and hope they at least get this trash stable.

Granted I'm willing to give Jony Ive another chance considering the lack of development time with iOS 7. But on the other hand this update has made my phone and iPad for the most part unusable. The pastel colors look blurry to me, the white level is insanely bright and causes my eyes to immediately turn bloodshot. Which gives me two choices turn the brightness all the way down and deal with squinting & headaches or invert the colors  others get motion sick from it. I have parallax turned off to save some battery. All I notice it do was make everything even more blurry than it already is.

Let me guess, you have magnolia coloured walls and cream carpets through out your house

Really cannot understand the mindset of people that dont/wouldnt want the OPTION to customise!

You do realise that if you didnt customise it, it would be as Apple would have wanted it and as such you would be in exactly the same situation! Whereas those that dont like the ios7 theme, could customise it and be happy!

I personally think your being awkard for awkard sake.

There is a restaurant I frequent... The food there is ****ing awesome... But the furniture and ambience sucks... They play the most boring music too... It's too simple and boring for my taste... But I wouldn't miss the lamb chops there for my life... And the seekh kebabs...!! I have tried convincing the manager and the owner to let me get my own table and chair and to allow me to get my playlist... But guess what... 95% of the people find it perfect so they told me to suck it up in a very polite way... Even though I'm a regular (at least once a week on average)... So I either try lamb chops some other place or bear the sucky music...

Not defending anyone but from a support side, the less the customization allowed the easier it is to trouble shoot and fix issues. Everyone talks about how awesome and helpful the Apple support is but that is one side effect of a closed and limited ecosystem, the ability to know the devices and software inside and out and what to expect within every menu and setting. Having said that I would still like more customization myself.

No one likes Windows 8, Surface tablets aren't selling, Windows 8 phones aren't selling.

actually, phones like the lumia recieved very good reviews - wp8 included.

the problem is not that people "dont like it", its that they don't have access to that many apps.

i am talking strictly about the WP here i don't have enough information to argue with you about why the surface isn't selling.

I think everyone needs to go back and read the threads about how old and terrible IOS6 is and how Apple needed the type of new look that IOS7 has or Apple will go out of business in the next 2 months.

It is a look - who cares - when you press on an ICON does it do what you need it to do - that is the ONLY important thing.

Lets get over it and get on to tell Apple what they must do in IOS8-10 and how you hate it before you even see it.

Just as many people were upset about how iOS 6 ruined their phone and how terrible it is, and apple should let us go back to iOS 5, etc.

Some people will just never be happy, that's all there is to it.

In the grand scheme of things, the complainers are a very small percentage of actual users, and don't represent the majority contrary to many's opinions on these forums.

If my memory recalls correctly, a "many discontented" article has always come out after an iOS update (Skeumorphism???) and while some may not like it, I suspect a lot of people prefer it.

It's likely to cause some long time Apple fans to move on, and at the same time also attract let's to join the movement.

With change comes time for adjustment, and some will dig heels in and not budge, and some will jump in and enjoy.

Without change, we'd still have the mobiles from Save by the Bell.

iOS 6 was not enough change for people, now iOS 7 is too much change for them. You will get used to the change. It might take a couple of months, but you won't imagine going back to iOS 6 then.

Why would you hate it if they're allowing you to customize it to your liking? If you don't want to change anything then leave it stock. If you are the kind of person who likes to change things around then we should at-least be allowed to change the messages bubble colors, color of the keyboard, which icons show up in control center, etc..

EDIT: @Dave.UK, exactly, OPTION is the key word.

I understand your point about the having the choice to customize, But, I think your missing what iOS is about. It's about the best user experience out of the box, this is the reason I specifically choose iOS over Android. Yea I love customization, but great products shouldn't need any tweaking or tinkering it should be great out of the box. Do I feel iOS is perfect, of course not(still waiting on quick reply), but overall out of the box, no OS comes close.

Note 2 owner here. Got iPhone 5 and 4S in the building. iOS 7 is meh. So flat, they were trying to be different but ended up making the OS pretty uninteresting in my opinion. I see there's a lot of room for design growth, but they REALLY need to fix the animations. The fact that I can't activate quick settings while opening an app, (during animations), bugs me because Android has been doing it so well for years.

Trying to close apps one at a time as slow as it makes you do it even on the 5S? Give me a break. They didn't even add a close all button. It took me almost a minute to close every app on the 5S in the Sprint store. Fail! With Apple... people never seem to be very happy with what's out and always bet on the next year redesign to fix things. Well, there's always next year....

You're about to be blown away!

Why sit and close all the apps, iOS doesnt need any task managing the apps you recently used are all up front, unless you want to do it for your own benefit i guess

As of today I have only encountered one person int the wild who likes iOS7. She's a barista at the local Starbucks. First iPhone and she is very young. I think the bubblegum pink with her pink bumper does it for her.

All others in any age range usually respond with "I hate it". The most positive comment I've heard was 'It's OK but iOS 6 was better".

Today was an annual physical. The doctor said he hates it. He needs it for his practice and is very dissatisfied. No battery drain for him but other issues.

I am talking with normal folks who do not spend all day online prognosticating about Apple's next move. No Cook v Steve debates. People who buy a phone for the function. They expect intuitive ease of use from Apple. The it just works folks.

Apple dropped the ball on this one. I wish it were different but it's not.

I have not updated because I don't care for the aesthetics. Glad I didn't like the look or I may be in the I hate it group.

I hope Cook & Co. accept the fact that this update is not well received and make the necessary remedies. So far my impression of Tim Cook is that he is very diplomatic and wants to get things done to the customer's satisfaction.

Even still that is a major minority, everyone I know loves it, so that equals out. No computer software company can make something EVERYONE will like. It just can't happen. Different strokes for different folks, there are some great alternatives out there
