That's like saying "why would GM make Chevys when they have Cadillacs?"

Who wants to pay $499 for a Widescreen Video iPod when all you can afford is a $249 clickwheel one?

Like I've been saying all along:

6G iPods will still have clickwheels, 5G owners can upgrade to the 6G interface.

The new Video iPod to be introduced later when costs of iPhone parts go down... maybe October with Leopard?

If the vids were taken down, even though fake, they've must have been pretty close...

Agreed, except for the timetable on the 7G -- new touch-based video iPod. October is too soon. The click-wheel 6G with new software interface will be the "holiday iPod." Then perhaps by first or second quarter of 2008 for the 7G. Of course making all the 6G buyers mad, but then they'll buy a 7G anyway.

I think they'll always have a "tier" of iPods:

Shuffle
Nano
Regular iPod
WS Video iPod

and now, 2 tiers of iPhone

iPhone Mini (or Nano, just the cell phone, maybe video but I wouldn't miss it)
iPhone (video, wifi, etc.)

I will like the choices. I would get the iPhone Mini (if available for T-Mobile) and own a regular iPod

Also: People seem to be ignoring the fact that Arn's stated that that was very likely the new iPod Nano interface. 6G is still up in the air, and my bets are still very much on a widescreen model.

Dejo is right but this being a privately run forum has nothing to do with it. Freedom of Speech is ONLY from the government. The government can't control your speech.
That's kind of what I was alluding to. If this was a publicly-run forum (i.e. government-sponsored), freedom of speech rights would be protected. But it's not, so they aren't. :)

darn it I missed it... I wish I knew what it looked like before :apple: pulled it. And before the thread became something about free speech and other such tangents. (Yawn)

It was sort of cool. Going back to my 5G iPod, I thought, yea, a new interface with more readable text like the iPhone would be sweet... there is room for it.

What would be uber-cool is that they send the interface out the video cable so when you navigate with the doc/remote, you get the interface on the TV!

I wouldn't worry about it.It's still fake.Otherwise youtube would have pulled the video by now. It's been 48 hours and is still up there.
I personally can't see Apple allowing youtube to continually host it.

Something doesn't jive.

Can someone point me to the youtube video??
Thanks

What I can't figure out is where in zub3qin's original post he demonstrates a lack of context or understanding of the actual world? He's right. This is how things should work. He demonstrates an understanding that this is how things should work -- like transparency of the press -- and also that this is not, in the actual real world, how things always work. And he then described an argument for following how things should work through a list of questions. Rather than missing the point that things sometimes don't work according to what we expect of journalism and a free press, he knows it doesn't and argues against this distortion of the ideals of our system. That's inarguably reasonable, even if it's not practically achievable.
Of course, which is why AaronSullivan's response is so... un-self-aware-ingly amusing.

As for "inarguably reasonable" vs. "not practically achievable," indeed, zub3quin's argument was both: reasonable and not achieved.

The power of Internet is amazing. The video is now everywhere to watch! Ban something and it will be everywhere!

I knew it was authentic! :D:D

(gives spydr a pat on the back...) :p

Of course it does. Damn. I knew it was too easy.

Get the videos here in the original quality. Not that the YouTube version is much different but...

Links are fixed: click here... again...

Hurry up everyone - looks like Apple's going through the 'net and getting them removed...

It's very clear how real these videos are. We've got a 6gen on the way and without question they will sell like crazy, but as developers and engineers and mac freaks we've been let down.

we dont know enough yet to pin these to the 6gen ipod.

i think its a 33% chance seeing how there is also an iphone nano and 3gen nano that this could be for.

..but in order for that by precedent to become part of our laws pertaining to a free press, bloggers are going to behave more like journalists -- or what we expect of ethical journalist.

Considering the state of journalism in the nation, "ethical journalism" is but an oxymoronic dream.

the link above is still working.... glad too cause I didn't see them before. I ignored them cause I thought they were fake

hurry up before someone at apple reads my post and starts a DOS attack on that site

and I LOVE the Beatles references!! it's like a 2 for 1 gimme!

I think they are probably real, but not for the 6G iPod, probably for the next Nano. I think the next iPod will be like the iPhone, without the phone. Just my 2¢.

Yeah, what gkarris said.

Except I don't think it necessarily even points to a 6G. There's not much in those videos other than the iPhone-style graphics adapted to the current 5G iPod mechanism. Perhaps these videos are simply of a firmware update slated for current iPods while Apple sniffs around for how to truly handle 6G. The developers have a lot to consider as the iPhone reaction plays out.

5G could do this, easily. That's probably all it is.

I WOULD LOVE THIS!!! That is a great point, I never thought about that, both 5G and nanos can easily do this. OK, now on to praying that this is true!!

I kinda hope they can't do this, if only because I suspect my 5G 30GB is starting to die and I'd love Apple to release a new one (with 100GB perhaps) shortly before I get the "dead hard drive" icon. And I have a friend who knows how to swap out HD's so I can probably get him to buy my current one.

I think these videos very well could be in the next ipod/nano. Hopefully the full-sized iPod will be a widescreen version of that same interface...
