Ok, so if Apple legal contacts me, they'll just say take them down, not take me to court or anything, correct? Just a little paranoid now that YouTube has taken them down and my site is being plastered all over.

UPDATE:
Ok. Getting a little nervous. My site has been visited by Apple HQ and I'm sure also by many employees. I'm debating whether I should take the videos down now.

Correct.

It will at most be a C&D letter. And the thing to remember about C&D's is that they are used as a tool to prevent things from escalating to a lawsuit. In this case, Apple is sending them out because they would rather resolve it quickly and inexpensively. Apple really doesn't want to spend money on lawyers and lawsuits.

Anyone can send a C&D letter, really. The recipient can choose whether or not to follow it, and this choice revolves around the question "what would happen if this person tries to sue me?" It's only the first step in a lawsuit if the letter is ignored and the party sending the letter is confident that it will win the lawsuit (or, in some cases, if the lawsuit will be financially damaging to the other party no matter what).

Why?

Unless Apple are big advertisers here, and I haven't seen Apple adverts here, personally.

Because if you don't take it down, then there's a good possibility of a lawsuit. Also, Apple doesn't forget things and if they see that MacRumors is starting to not obey certain things, Apple could start to be more strict as to what they allow and don't allow per Apple Legal. I'm sure MacRumors doesn't want to be sued every week for this rumor or that rumor. Apple could very easily do this if it pertains to them and is the right material such as the 6G iPod Article that was made to be taken down. Apple has a lot more money than MacRumors will ever have and can bury MacRumors with paperwork and lawsuits until they just can't take it anymore.

If they do contact you, post the experience in all manner of detail.

ah, capitalism at it's finest. that statement is why I would rather live in a society where the gun solves problems and money has no meaning.

Dammit! This is what I get for changing my homepage from MR (I did it so I would get more work done, which I do, instead of reading forums). But now I've missed the video! If anyone knows where I can see this PM me please :-D.

EDIT - Nevermind....I found them. Pretty eeeeenteresting. Widescreen video ipod come on!

No firmware updates

For everyone hoping that a new interface will be available for 5G iPods via a firmware update: Apple has never provided major changes via a firmware update in the past, so it's highly unlikely that they will do so this time. They know that enough people will simply pay for a new iPod. And then for the people who start complaining that Apple owes them a new interface: this debate happens every time a new generation comes out, and it is still the case that the iPod is a piece of consumer electronics, not a computer, which means that the most one can reasonably expect is bug fixes.

And, since some people seem to have missed it: Arn has stated that the videos which were originally posted were for a Nano interface, not for the full-sized iPod.

Hmm, I'm not sure that the gun is the best way. How about the barter system? That way, money still has no meaning, but maniacs aren't going around killing each other. I'll give Apple 2 pickled onions for an iPod.

Does this mean that the iPod nano's screen will be upgraded to 320x240? Or is the dimensions just for demonstration purposes?

I got AAC support and iTMS support via firmware update on mine. That's pretty major.

Yeah that's major, but to have that particular update must mean it's an ancient model... Since I've owned iPods (the last couple of years), there haven't been jack. In fact, the only update I can think of was for my iPod Photo when they added a new transition for the slideshow. And that's all.

A quick look at the changes that have marked new iPod iterations demonstrates why interfaces weren't retrofitted to older iPods: The new interfaces weren't compatible with older generations. This one could be, easily. Your point is moot.

And: How would ARN know?

How would arn know? Oh, maybe it was a typo when he typed up the story. There are many possibilities.

So here's my prediction...

On August 7th, one of three things will most likely happen (I hope)...

MOST LIKELY
Apple will release a 6G iPod that has the same form factor as the current iPod. The screen will be brighter and the hard drive will be bigger. The interface will be updated (but not identical to what was shown on this forum) and have nicer graphics/ GUI. And, if Apple is in a giving mood, they will probably release a firmware update for current 5 and 5.5G owners. This will be there "Christmas Update". It will sell for the current prices.

BEST CASE (not very likely this soon)
Apple will release a multi-touch iPhone minus the phone. It will Have many of the PDA features just like the iPhone, but will not have any communication features (including email & Safari). Possibly Bluetooth, but no WIFI until around WWDC in 2008. Pricepoint.... I'm estimating $349 (40Gb) and $449 (100Gb). Also, remember that a big expense with phones is all the Qualcomm royalties for network communications lisensing - without that, apple would have extra cash to work with.

WORST CASE (I pray to God not)
Apple will release a 6G iPod that has the same form factor as the current iPod. The screen will be brighter and the hard drive will be bigger. The interface will be updated (but not identical to what was shown on this forum) and have nicer graphics/ GUI. APPLE WILL NOT RELEASE A FIRMWARE UPDATE. The new iPod will be dubbed "The iPod that's almost as good as the best iPod" and a lot of people (including me) will be pissed. The multi-touch iPod won't arrive until around WWDC 2008.

For the record... I want a 30 or 40Gb Multi-Touch iPod. IMO, the click wheel is dead, with the exception of the Nano. I have faith that Apple will do the right thing and surprise us. They always do. Right? Right? Right? Apple?

The rumored interface is fugly. Apple would never release that.

I'll give Apple 3 pickled onions and a sweet gigantic pickle for a Wide Screen iPod with all the options--)))
:D

ok thats a bad estimation, big lol @ christmas update :D

I can't imagine that apple would switch to a touchscreen interface on their ipods (sorta the low end iphone if you think about it) just yet. My guess would be aug-sept 2008 for the widescreen, touchscreen ipod. I'm guessing LED backlit iPod with larger drive and perhaps wifi for sharing music/ultra primitive version of safari (it's supposed to run OSX like the iPhone, right?).

Hmmmm, Monday night, July 23rd, and the vids are still there. Tomorrow is Tuesday... ;)

Anyways, August 7 is just 2 weeks away... :p
Haha. Nice putting it all together.

BTW, August 5th is my birthday and then August 7th is when I get my license. Maybe it's a sign of things to come. Apple... I LOVE YOU!!!
