iOS is fragile when installing, and it always has been. You can install three times and get three different outcomes. Even a clean DFU installation can return certain different bugs each time you do it, and this is the reason that people complain of bugs that others don't have, or someone can update iOS and improve their battery life whilst others update and worsen their battery life. So it doesn't surprise me at all that it can take one or two clean installs to banish this unlocking lag that only some suffer from.

iOS8 and iOS9 also don't like backups made on previous versions of iOS in my experience. Sure they might load ok but there will be bugs. My 6+ had two bugs when loading an iOS7 backup which were cleared by dropping the backup altogether, and my 6S+ had one or two bugs from the iOS8 backup which were once again banished by setting up as a new phone. I have managed to completely cure my 6S+ of the unlocking lag by repeated restore operations. You might be lucky and catch it first time.

Interesting theory. Actually it explains how I got rid of status bar lag when I was keep going back and forth between 9.0 and 9.1 beta. All of sudden lag was gone. Until.. I wanted to try 9.2 beta yesterday it came back... now I am going back and forth again with 9.2 beta and 9.1.

Guys,

I posted about a week back stating all my issues had resolved after a few days. That turned out to not be 100% true. For the most part the issues went away. However, every now and again, when unlocking via Touch ID, the phone would take about 1-2 seconds to unlock. Not a huge deal but overall still annoying to me. It felt like I was back to my iPhone 5s.

Today, I exchanged my 128GB SG 6s+ with Samsung chip for a 64GB 6s+. The new phone has the TSMC chip. I'm not saying this because I'm picky. I'm saying this because for me, it's fact. This new model is perfect. I don't know if it's the TSMC chip or the fact that it's 64GB instead of 128GB but it hasn't missed a beat. No stutter, no lag. Nothing. And this is 5 minutes after opening it and activating it. I can imagine it will get better as the days go on.

This is just my experience but it was the right choice for me to take the old one in and exchange it. Something was just off with that phone. Hard to explain it but you know it when it happens.

I've only ever experienced it with the Samsung chips too, but others in this thread have the problem with TSMC phones so it probably isn't the cause.

I guess it's gotta be a tolerance thing for touch id sensor. I heard 6s has different touch id than 6. so some faster and some slower. and the way iphone handles those timing is not good. definately SW thing that apple can fix it but the thing is when.

I don't have the lag issue with my Samsung 64gb 6s+. I do get the status bar not showing up for a second sometimes but that doesn't lock up the screen like it did with your previous devices. I do see frame rate drops when using the multitasking screen or when pulling up Siri App Suggestions. Interestingly enough, I did try out beta 9.2 and noticed a marked improvement with respect to frame rates. This most likely is due to Apple's animations as when you reduce transparency it goes away completely and FPS is perfectly smooth. This of course is only with 6s+ not the 6s.

My old phone had a TSMC chip and didn't have the unlock lag or at least I didn't notice it.

On a somewhat positive note, I filed a bug report with Apple about this problem and the report was marked as a duplicate of an existing problem, so at least that means the issue is on Apple's radar.

It's definitely on the radar. There a number of threads submitted on Apple's support site.

Threads on Apple's support forums doesn't equate to on their radar. Apple's support site is a user to user support site like this one. Unless an issue makes the news with a link to a thread on the Apple support forums Apple doesn't read threads on their own forums.

Just need to get a major electronics website to write an article questioning the poor performance of the 6s due to lag. I'm certain Apple wouldn't want the bad press.

Didn't realize that. Thanks for clarifying.

I recently switched from a 6S to a 6S Plus and I am disappointed with the lag of the 6S Plus, especially the 3D Touch. It was buttery smooth on the 6S and it's sluggish on the 6S Plus. I had to turn off transparency effects so it would behave as smooth as the 6S. So, I am going to return the 6S Plus today and switch back to a regular 6S as I can't stand the lag on a brand new phone. Will miss the battery life and the nicer resolution though.

i restored couple of times today, and set up as new. no backup. No luck with lag unfortunately. i give up. i'll wait for 9.2

My 6S+ randomly lights up the screen when its locked and on a table with the screen facing upward. No notifications or so. Just turns on for 10 seconds.
