Unless you have to do another restore like I had to do after 9.1 came out. I guess I can do another restore.

Did you set up as new after every restore or restore your backup? I really don't want to keep restoring as new over and over again every time this occurs.

Also the fact that it takes multiple restored would seem to point to a potential problem with the flash memory. Like I mentioned I restored or erase everything on my first phone many times and never had the unlock lag. My new one has had it both times I restored, though not after the one time I erased all data.

All I know is that I've had one 6S+ that lagged out of the box, before installing anything. I merely went through the 'hello/hola' initial settings, set up as a new phone and had the unlock lag immediately. The next phone, my current one, didn't have the lag initially but obtained it as soon as I did a restore to cure another bug. Couple those two instances I've experienced on two different phones with all the people commenting in this thread, and it seems too widespread to be a hardware fault. Also, if it's hardware then how come I and numerous others have fixed our phones?

I'm not saying it is, but it's possible. Because of how flash storage is written to, each time you do a restore, a different part of it is used. If there's a bad portion of it, that portion might or might not be written to when doing a restore.

Though I think you said you simply did an erase all data to fix yours or was that someone else?

Out of curiously pity, what storage size is your 6s Plus? In the threads I've seen all the people reporting unlock lag had 128 GB models, which is where I got my hardware issue idea from.

I had to 'erase all data and settings' three times to cure mine. So are you saying that wouldn't point to a flash memory issue whereas a restore would? It's funny that bad flash memory would only introduce unlock lag though isn't it?
A restore introduced the problem for me in the first place...

Edit to add: 64GB 6S+

I have the lag. A bit disappointing the 6Splus hasn't leapfrogged the slow-out-of-the-box performance of the 6plus.

I signed to a two year contract for the 6plus and that was the only reason I kept it. I couldn't wait to upgrade to the 6S plus and that it had the same specs as the 6S gave me concern and now I am still yet to feel I have the large screen iphone I wanted.

I did an erase all settings last night, set up as new and checked for lag. There wasn't any so I restored my back up and so far the lag hasn't returned yet.

Of course, now I'm having the problem which caused me to do the restore which introduced the lag, namely that the battery usage screen on my phone doesn't list any apps, even after hours of usage. Edit: Finally showed up 7 hours after the restore from backup.

Someone mentioned, I'm not sure if in this thread, restoring several times until the fault goes away. I restored last night and the unlocking lag arrived on my phone when it hadn't been there previously. I restored again, twice and each time it was there. So I restored a third time and it was gone. So it's definitely a software corruption and for some inexplicable reason it can be made to disappear with a clean install. Quite why it takes several attempts is anyone's guess!
I think you're referencing my post! It'a a few pages back. I ended up restoring my phone 12 times to find that unlock lag occurred right from the start 8/12 times. The other four times looked okay for about an hour, however the lag came back on my current install (the 12th restore, which had no lag initially). But now it seems to be going away again (maybe?), I have no idea what's going on anymore .

So to get this right, I have a occasional 1 second delay in the task bar at top appearing, but no freezing. It did it on 9.0 and 9.1 and a friends does it also. We have 6s 16 and 64 GB.

Which process is correct?

Should I erase all settings, setup as new, then sign in to iCloud?

Do a full restore and as new in iTunes?

Or restore in iTunes and load a backup?

Or deal with it since I'm not getting any freezing?

Any delay or freezing is wrong and should not be there. This did not happen on the previous generation of phones, including the Plus, which was slow anyways. I have had status bar lag, and issues with the phone being slow with Touch ID, general sluggishness etc. This is with OTA firmwares, clean installs, betas, everything. We pay a premium for Apple products, and they have Android phones which a cheaper but have overall a better experience than the top of the range iPhones, no thanks :/

I did start this a page or so ago by saying that I had read about this, and possibly in this thread. It's only reading about it that made me experiment.

The unlock lag is back. I'm starting to see the clock disappear and reappear and unlocking isn't as fast as it was right after I restored from backup. It's about what it was before I did the erase all data.

It looks like even if the lag goes away on a restore, that it can come back at any time. It's obviously a problem with software since it can go away, but for whatever reason Apple doesn't seem to be working on a fix since I've read the public beta of 9.2 does not fix it.

What's really annoying is except for unlocking the screen, the 6s Plus is lightning fast.

I agree we shouldn't have it. It appears mine isn't as bad as others since it's a quick delay in the task bar appearing and not any kind of freezing. Just wondering what process has worked and maybe I should deal with it for now since it could be worse from what I'm reading.

There should be no difference between unlocking the phone after it's been sitting for a bit (which can take a few seconds) and unlocking it immediately after locking the screen (which is nearly instantaneous)

I don't think any process gets rid of it permanently. It's always there in the background and can happen at any time until Apple fixes whatever is wrong.

Apple appears to be focused on the iPad Pro now, so I doubt we'll see a fix in iOS 9.2. Maybe we'll see a fix by iOS 9.3, but I wouldn't expect that to be out until early next year.

What I don't understand is why there isn't more news coverage of this problem. It requires a significant amount of Google skills to find more that a thread or two on this message board and others about the problem. There's more complaints about the control center not opening at 30 fps instead of 60, than a 2 second lag unlocking the phone.

It could be because most people haven't got the bug?

That would seem to lean to a hardware problem then wouldn't it?

My current 6s Plus has had lag on almost every restore. The one I replaced, never had lag after restoring and I restored it a lot.

My first two 64GB 6S+ didn't have it either, and yet my third had it out of the box and my fourth 'acquired it' after a restore. I managed to banish the bug after three 'erase all contents and settings' procedures though, and it hasn't come back.

Did you setup as new? Use iTunes?

Ah ok. I updated to 9.1 using iTunes. Didn't fix the slight delay with the task bar but didn't make it worse either.

Wonder what method I should try to get rid of the slight delay. Only does it really when phone sits and Touch ID is used. It's quick though and no freezing.

I set up as new on the phone (without using iTunes) but iTunes introduced the bug when I did a restore. My previous phone had the bug out of the box though.

Restored my phone 3 times now. No difference between each. Touch ID lag still there.

Restored once more to 9.1, no backup. Had unlock lag immediately. After 24 hours, it's magically gone. This is definitely one of the stranger bugs...

I have a 6s Plus with Samsung chip (if that matters here) and did a fresh restore of 9.1 last week from iTunes on my Mac and has zero lag with unlock with Touch ID, status bar appearing, or really any lag of any kind. Bringing up a Quick Action menu with 3D Touch or multitask switcher, etc. also have no lag.

Did you have one before?

Maybe try to download ipsw and select it manually? Did you try DFU or normal iTunes restore? Describe more precisely how you did it

A normal iTunes restore. It downloaded the latest ipsw and restored.....
Should I be trying a DFU restore?
