A 7 inch version would be lighter and easier to hold for reading a book. A higher resolution screen would be a lot easier to read from as well.

On a recent trip to China I saw at least 6 different tablet PCs with 7" screens and closely following the iPad form factor. Why 7"? Because this reduced the cost to around $130 (though others were more expensive). Can't see why Apple would want to produce a 7" - since when do they compete on price?

I think somebody might be mistaking the samsung galaxy tab with a 7" tab looking like an iPhone4. They do look alike quite a bit, camera+flash, dock connector etc

Probably just speculation, but we'll see. If it's true we should see photos of parts for the new ipad showing up soon...

... and then we can all speculate on whether they are fakes or not :)

Bull *****. This makes absolutely no sense as it's a bad size.
Not small enough to be a small device to fit in a larger coat pocket. Maybe a 4" or 5" but 7" is stupid

It actually makes sense to me. People are wanting an iPad with higher resolution, cameras, more memory, gyroscope...The only way apple could offer all of those things without significantly increasing the cost, is to decrease the cost elsewhere.

With a 7 inch iPad, they could add all of those things and still keep the entry model around the same price point it is today. And if someone wanted to pay a higher price for a larger screen, they could.

They want to keep the base models of the iPad affordable around the same price point as entry level laptops.

This picture is an obvious fake. Look at the Home button. It is always the same size on all iOS devices, yet on this 7" iPad it is smaller, just like they simply scaled the entire image of the current iPad. Its a FAKE!

Nothing slips by you! It was never claiming to be real. It's just a mockup created mainly to show the difference in size.

Apparently you missed it but Apple released a 3.5" iPad Nano on Sept 1, 2010. It was the 4th generation of the device, the first iPad to add FaceTime and camera recording. It even fits in a coat pocket. But you would like it to be half an inch bigger?...?

So if the smaller iPad would resemble the iPhone 4... It would have a glass back and would be more rectangular, with a thick bezel at the top and bottom, and thin on the sides. Wouldn't that look extremely weird?

few months ago boygeniusreport had a chart of all of apple's products and prices. they have every price point starting at $99 covered. dell and others are going to make a 7 inch tablet and so will apple to make sure they can't get a foothold in the market

Is this n92

I don't follow the tech side much, but would a 7" ipad be potentially the n92 that some believe is the CDMA iphone?

All I really want is an iPad with an anti-glare display (similar to the MBP display).

All I really want is a camera equipped FaceTime iPad and FaceTime Desktop for the Mac (aka FaceTime to iChat capabilities). Then I sell my iPad, my MacBook and my MacBook and get a new iPad and new iMac. My MacBook's only purpose is mobile iChat. Weekend webcam sessions at the breakfast table so my parents/in-laws can see and talk to our kids.

How would you make an anti-glare out of glass? Matte glass is too thick and would diffuse the light too much. Plastic would make the capacitive multi-touch feel horrible. Currently you can't make a good capacitive touch screen with a matte display. And pressure sensitive screens are horrid.

The iPad already has so much market fragmentation: 3 memory sizes and 3G or WiFi-only. That's 6 different SKUs. Now they're going to add at least 2-3 more with variants for a 7" iPad and different memory configurations? If anything, Apple needs to consolidate a little bit.

I really love the iPad as it is now - though having the forward facing camera would be nice to have. I'm not sure I'd have any interest in a 7" iPad model. If it's to go after the eReader market, I get it. That said, I use my current iPad to read and to read to my son. The weight doesn't seem like that big of an issue.

I'll definitely be keeping tuned it!

That is the first question everyone probably asks.
Everyone with any intelligence.

A guess: cheaper price for more market?

A sub-$499 iPad would be nice, but look at the price of iPods. If the iPod Touch had dropped down to $149 or lower for a low-end intro model, I could expect the small iPad to be lowering down into the $299+ area, the full iPad going for $499+.

However, this product makes no sense: smaller, possible retina display but smaller battery, less space for extras. Weird, if true. Based on the age of this rumor, it could be happening.

This doesn't make sense to me. Could you try to express clearly what you are trying to say? You seem to ask whether a 7" iPad would be an N92 - I have no idea what an N92 is, but an iPad is an iPad and an N92 is not an iPad. An N92, whatever it is, is also not an iPhone. iPad and iPhone are Apple products, and Apple does't make an N92 (why is Apple the only company giving their products names instead of stupid codes? )
