Have we reached “peak emoji” yet?

What adult uses more than an occasional smiley, sad face, or heart? I'm glad I don't know any.

If you’re not getting regular aubergine, you’re missing out.

Most of us don’t care about skin color. Yellow is fine by me...

The yellow emojis are actually kind of racist.

This whole “an emoji for everyone and every thing” has gotten out of “hand.” (MacRumors doesn’t allow emojis..........)
The worst part is, I can’t even pick a real gun, but I can still pick all these other instruments people use to kill other people, or themselves: (emoji of knife, cigarette, beer, needle, rock, doughnut, banana, etc...).
Inclusivity for all, except 2A advocates.

I found the white person.

And I found the antagonizer.

Just because they don’t agree with you, doesn’t make them wrong, hateful, racist, etc. Quit treating your fellow human like they need to excuse their self for having a personal opinion.

Apple has had the best emojis since the start, but now they've ruined it for everyone with all this extra nonsense. (They have a lot of influence in the consortium.)

You're glad you don't know all the older women in my family.

We are witnessing the slow but steady demise of the human race. One emoji at a time.
Because of your avatar, I read that in Trump's public speaking voice and broke into laughter.

But now there's something so much better, haha: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gun-sticker-pack/id1156649155?mt=8
Wonder if it's a coincidence that every gun on that is in CS:GO.

This is the internet. Anyone that posts their opinion should be prepared that it will be challenged by reasonable and unreasonable people alike. No sense in trying to educate people on public forums, because it doesn’t work. (And here I am doing it myself now).

Basically, if you can't make your meaning plain with all the richness of the English language and you have to resort to cartoon faces made with punctuation marks then you're a dick

You might not be familiar with this but it has become an essential element of communication culture. Especially in Asia where emojis are used extremely effectively to indicate moods and intricacies of communication that cannot be conveyed in just a few words. Emojis help adding nuance where you would otherwise need several sentences or words to say exactly the same thing. It is definitely not all about the LULZ.

And then there is the point of language. How self centered are you to expect that everyone that communicates on the internet needs to be fluent in the language that you happen to speak because you were by born into it?

Oh that’s easy. If you’re not fluent in English you go to school. It’s not my mother language, too, but I worked hard to earn my CAE and now I do not need emojis to express what I feel or to take part in an argument.

But if I were to use a single emoji from the available set to express how I feel about the new emojis I’d use this one

Apple's sole involvement with emoji is in implementing the standard laid out by the Unicode Consortium.

Version 11.0, the latest, adds the new ones listed in the news post. Thus, to conform to the standard, Apple is required to design a set of graphics that match the descriptions provided by the standard.

Skin tone was added a while back, and again, is a requirement of the standard.

Neither Tim Cook nor Apple have any involvement in the decisions the consortium makes when updating the Unicode standard.

Edit: It would appear that Apple does have involvement with the Unicode Consortium. That said, they are but one member among others like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft.

Having extra options doesn't really hurt anybody, does it?

"Having extra options doesn't really hurt anybody, does it?"

The advantage of a pre-selected selection (editing) is that you are not confronted with 100000 variants. The optimal balance within diversity and dictatorship has long been dropped with emoticons.
So they've taken themselves to absurdity.
In 10 years no one will use this means of communication anymore. It's too silly.

Da hell is with that emoji with a black guy with ginger hair?

We certainly don't have hair in that texture or colour. Very lazy design.

Can we start making a disclaimer in the articles that loudly state that Apple DOES NOT MAKE THE EMOJIs, Unicode does, Apple simply conforms to the Unicode standard so that their stuff works with everyone else who also conforms to the Unicode standard.

The amount of "APPLE IS MAKING EMOJIS INSTEAD OF X" posts is exhausting to read.

Chargegate is going to be addressed, but it certainly isn’t as widespread as this forum would make you believe. If it were, the update would already be out.

True it only affects people with a bad vrm module, but 12.1 will provide a workaround to fix it only a few have a defective phone its a small percentage.

Apple today announced that the iOS 12.1 update, which is currently being beta tested by developers and public beta testers, will include the new Unicode 11 emoji.

Apple first promised new emoji were coming on World Emoji Day back in July, but the new characters were not included in the original iOS 12 update.

Apple plans to introduce more than 70 new emoji characters, with options for red hair, gray hair, curly hair, and no hair, along with smiley faces that include cold face, party face, pleading face, and face with hearts.

Super heroes, an eye-shaped nazar amulet, and an infinity symbol will be added, along with new animals such as kangaroo, peacock, parrot, and lobster. New food items include mango, lettuce, cupcake, and moon cake, with a full list of new Unicode 11 emoji available from Emojipedia.

Apple says that it is working with the Unicode Consortium to add additional disability-themed emoji to Unicode 12, which is set to be released in 2019.

Developers can get the new emoji right now by downloading the iOS 12.1 update, and Apple says the software will also be available for public beta testers later in the day.
