Website was hacked.

I said it before, I'll say it again. You don't take down an entire web site to change a graphic!

In my opinion, there is a good chance that the website(s) were hacked. They've closed down the stores to do 2 things:

1. Remove the offending material.
2. Figure out HOW it was done and implement changes to prevent it in the future.

Unfortunately, we'll probably never know - they're certainly not going to admit it.

Did you really expect them to intro a new product at 3am on the UK store? before the US store?

Yeah, but you might if the site had been hacked, and you wanted to make sure the holes were patched properly before you put it back up.

How do you explain the fact that all European stores are down, not just UK? I bet the US & Canada stores will be going down within the next couple of hours.

I think it's a safe bet the new Mac Pros are coming tomorrow (today if you're across the Pond). Why is everyone getting so excited? I'd rather Apple dropped prices on the MP RAM or gave us Blue Ray DVD. Here is to wishful thinking!

This is seeming to be very suspicious.

The possibility of a hacker is starting to seem more likely.

You never know- It's crazy, thats for sure.

How did they exactly handle the leak of the PM G5 specs? was it similar?

so everyone is pretty much agreeing that this is a prank right? not that the new Mac Pro's will be released in T-49 Minutes?

OK... SO... 8-core gets released tomorrow, the rush of pent-up demands sees a big wave of purchases, the machines get shipped with Tiger.

Then, 30 days later, when that first wave of buyers can no longer threaten to return their Tiger-loaded machines, Leopard gets released and they all have to pay to upgrade - all for the privilege of being the first kid on the block with 8 cores.

C'mon, we all knew this was how it was going to play out - new hardware and a new, must-have OS never get released within the same 30 days.

Personally, I'm hanging on for the software.

You have been around MS too long. Bad habit to use universal "We", as if you are now everyone's spokesperson. Maybe many agree with you, I do not know. But, I do not.

They are still not accessible from the US store website. Oddly, when you add .woa at the end of the non-working links they work normally.

I can get to European stores via the drop-down menu in the US store just fine.

Ockham's razor applied here = Mac Pros soon. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon. The conspiracy theories and hackers are possible, but its far more likely some web guy got ahead of himself than people hacked Apple's servers merely to stir the rumor pot in the European market.

The difference is is their search engine doesn't seem to be working.Sounds like some webbies are doing some database re-working.

Or, they don't want to have to change the search database (again), risking yet another mistake, so have disabled it temporarily while waiting for the actual announcement. One can hope.

I really doubt it was a hacker. After all, they could have done a lot more damage and than just adding a new option on Mac Pros.

More likely it was a mistake, they took down the store to fix it because it ran right through it, and we'll see new machines later today.

My 2 cents.

Canada Store has the specs

Edit: Sorry, I screwed up. I just realized they're not advertising dual quad-cores on the Canadian site. I've just noticed quad-core (two dual-core using Woddcrest chips). The site itsn't updated. Got caught up in the hype. Sorry!

Stores are still down. We're DEFINITELY getting 8-cores tomorrow.

It'll be a good day on Wall St (finally!)

Someone looking for the specs ... I don't suppose someone is looking for these huh?
