so is it safe to assume somewhere down the line (looks like 2010 onwards) snow leopard gave the EFI update for the macbook unibody (non-pro)
as many of the success stories seem to be 2010 onwards

EDIT: OWC now sells 8gb for 269 usd

I am happy to say that 8gb ram works on umbp 2.4ghz late 2008. I have been using 8gb ram on SL 10.6.4 64bit for 4 hrs and it is stable. I am using win7 64bit, photoshop & using safari for watching a movie on Hulu & youtube and it is using almost 90% of the memory and it is stable

Ben :)

Price has just dropped a lot!

I might be going down this road eventually, although I'm getting with the backlit keyboard upgrade now. As a heads up, the UK price for this upgrade (and for DDR3 Pro's, too!) has dropped to £123 at Crucial. It was over £300 a few months ago.

alright new to this forum looking for a little more response than I am getting on another mac forum.

My current set up is a late 2007 unibody Black mac. I am running 2.16 GHz INtel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB or Ram and 160 gb HD.

I am wanting to upgrade this think so I can run a more effective version of windows on my boot camp.

SO my question is, 500 GB Harddrive and 4 GB of RAM. Will it run on my 2.16 processor? I am afraid that that is the only thing holding me back from upgrading. I appreciate the help in advanced. Any links to videos of help on installing/items for sale/or just knowledge on the area would be GREAT!

Thanks in advanced!

Hey, if your mac is the same as this one, then those upgrades should be good. Your system will only be able to use 3.2 GB of the 4 GB of RAM as it has a limitation. The 500 GB HD should speed up your Mac too, as well as giving you more space. You want to get PC2-5300 DDR2 667 Mhz RAM for that system, not the DDR-3 RAM we are talking about on this thread.

Apple should have guides on how to upgrade the RAM and hard disk on that system - you will need a small phillips screwdriver to do it, but they are both relatively easy upgrades. Here's how to do the hard disk and RAM - note that you can do them both once you have opened the RAM door.

If you were wondering about transferring data across, the best way is probably to buy an external disk case and put the new hard disk in it, then use a tool like Carbon Copy Cloner to copy everything over to it before you fit the new HD. Then, once you have installed the new drive and RAM, your computer will boot up with all your data and software on it.

got a link to the external HD case that you speak of? I have no heard of this or do I understand what it is.

I got an 8GB (4GBx2) by Kingston (part# KTA-MB1066K2/8G) from Memory4Less.com for $171.35 in late October 2010 (no tax and free shipping) and tried it in my Unibody MacBook 13" (late 2008) as well as in my Unibody MacBook Pro 15" (mid 2009). This memory works just fine in both laptops.

I was buying it for my MacBook Pro to replace the 4 GB (2GBx2) because Aperture eats memory for lunch like crazy. However, before putting this memory in my Macbook Pro, I wanted to try it in my Unibody MacBook to see if it would work just in case I decided to upgrade my Macbook's 4GB (2BBx2) to 8 GB in the future.

I see no reason why not to use this Kingston memory, which Kingston lists specifically for both the late 2008 Unibody MacBook and mid 2009 Unibody Macbook Pro. I have been using Kingston memory in Windows desktops, Windows laptops, Cisco routers, and now MacBooks and MacBook Pros, and I have never had any issues at all.

Does anyone currently have this model MacBook (non-pro) model and is successfully running 8GB?

idk if this is right, but I think you have to have 2.24 ghz processor to run 8gb of RAM. I think....

IDK if anyone has tried it, but even with my 2.16 ghz processor someone tried it and it only accepted 3.4 RAM of 4GB (2x2GB) So I doubt it would accept any more.

I don't think your 2.16 is from the same "line-up" as my 2.0 and the "MB466LL/A (2.0 GHz), MB467LL/A (2.4 GHz)" line-up. Do you mind posting the same information I posted above and we can compare? We need to get our facts straight.

I just have a question about my memory usage, I have 2gb of memory according to iStat Pro, while one Safari page is open and Adium running the stats are 439mb wired, 855mb active, 387mb inactive, 108mb free. Is this normal?

Check out appleserialnumberinfo.com and also download mactracker.app and then compare your information against mine. About this mac will not show you all this information. Cool?

Your MacBook is completely different than what is being discussed in this topic. You cannot reach 8GB with that machine. Both the 2Ghz and the 2.4Ghz unibody MacBook should be able to reach 8GB, based on this thread.
