Best battery ever on a smartphone.
Took it off the charger at 23:45 (first full charge).
At 7:00 in the morning still showed 100% but after about 5 minutes of use dropped to 98%.
Used it all day long, including 1.5 hours of GPS navigation.
Had about 8% left at midnight and 2% the next morning at 7:00.

Plugged it in the morning for exactly one hour and it charged from 2% to 70%.
Plugged it again in the car for about 45 minutes and while using GPS navigation for the whole time, it charged from 70% to 95%.
Much much better than my old 6S+.

Love the battery life! The 7 used to be around 25% at 7-8 pm at night for me. The 8 plus is still at 50%. When I'm using the 7 quite a bit whether texting or on a call, it won't even last the day and have to recharge. Not the 8 plus. so, I'm extremely satisfied with the battery life.

Battery life is never much of an issue for me, as I don't often use the phone off the charger (just for trips to town and to weekly events). Occasionally I might get down to 50%, but not too often. I do like the ability for fast charging, using an Apple 61watt USB-C charge adapter and a USB-C to Lightning cable. So far, under these mild demands, my 8+ battery is holding about the same as my 6s was.

So I'm having doubts about the battery life of my iPhone 8 Plus. It doesn't suck, but it neither does it look as good as what I see many people here at Macrumors claim to have. Your thoughts?

I mean, what bothers me most is how much it drains in stand by. Today for example, I may have used it for like 10 minutes max at school (from 8:45 AM to 15:00 PM), and I lost 10% in total in all of those hours. That doesn't look normal to me.
have you updated your apps? especially the "what`s app". i had similar problem before, after update, the problem is gone.

i have a bad start regarding the battery life time of my iphone 8 plus.

i set up my 8+ from a backup of 6+, then the battery life is horrible...6 hours of usage drains the battery completely. then i restore the phone and setup as a new phone. The battery life is up to 12hours of usage now. This is enough for me, i can use it for two days.

if you have 7, then there is no need to upgrade to 8. i upgraded from 6p to 8p, that is a huge improvement:)

You can’t really judge based on the first discharge. When you first setup a new device, whether as new or from a backup, there’s a lot of setup happening in the background. The phone will be using more power behind the scenes than usual, maybe for the first day or two.

i am getting 3 hours battery life playing asphalt 8 at 50 percent brightness this is so poor

Of course if you’re only playing games then the battery life will be drained. Use it like a phone and not a game console.

One of the reasons I swapped my 6s Plus for the 8 Plus was the battery life. It was getting pretty horrid... as in needing a charge after 4-5 hours of music/video streaming at work.

Today was the first day at work with the new phone... and I started non-stop Youtube streaming at 100%...

8 hours later the phone is at...

*drumroll*

45%.

I can't complain about this.

Ok... 12 days later I wanted to update my post on the battery life.

Yesterday I worked an extremely long day... 17 hours. What I like to do at work as an alternative to listening to music all the time is listen to Kindle books or movies.

Yesterday I streamed movies with the Xfinity app all day long. I put a movie on and throw the phone in my desk drawer. Full screen HD, 40% screen brightness, true tone on.

13+ hours of video later... still had 7% life which would have put me over the 14 hours of video Apple listed in the specs.

As said, can't complain. Amazing battery life. :)

The 8+ battery life has definitely exceeded my expectations. I figured it would be about the same as my 7+ was a year ago, but it’s giving me at least an hour more usage on average.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but are you comparing your usage with the 7 Plus on iOS 10 or on iOS 11? I used to get around 10-11 hours of usage time with my 7 Plus on iOS 10. After updating to iOS 11, it dropped to 8 hours.

I’m comparing the 7 plus brand new to the 8 plus brand new.

iOS 11 started out pretty awful. I used it on my 7 plus (starting with 11.0 beta 10) for about two weeks before I sold it. I don’t remember any battery issues with it, but lots of lag, poor RAM management, glitches and crashes all the time.

It does seem like Apple is cleaning a lot of these problems up. iOS 11.2 betas have been solid for me so hopefully that resolves your battery life issue.

That has nothing to do with the iPhone 8+ being good. It is due to a new battery.

After 2 years, iPhone battery’s are usually starting to fail and need replacement based on my experience.

I'm glad to hear this! I went from a 6 to a 7+ and wow oh wow was the battery life a welcome upgrade. So much so that I've been trying to convince my wife to get the plus. Her main complaint about her 6s is battery life. She just doesn't want a phablet.

He perfect middle ground fer her would be the X ain’t it?

My experience with 8 plus is still fantastic. Took off charger at 7AM, by 10pm I’ll get that battery warning 10% left. Perfect time to place it back on the charging pad. This phone is the perfect hold off phone before Apple releases iPhone XL. /heh

I don’t end up using my phone during working hours much but took my phone off charge at 7 this morning and at 5:30 in the evening I’m sitting at 95%.

I’ll go for my gym session for a couple of hours now and will stream music over 4G which will probably take it down to 85% max. That’s insane.!

Second day with the 8+ and I’ve been using it pretty heavily. Really hope this battery life remains steady, at least until it’s time for me to upgrade next September ;)

NO power saving option activated so far!

Have you got some particular advice to optimize it??

Let’s share the information to improve the battery performance of this already great and satisfactory phone!!!

They certainly have made the battery life much better in these latest phones.

I’m over the moon with mine too albeit an X. This was with 19% left.
