mind the gap

she is deserving of all she can get..
she was on her way after some lite shopping to the nearby Long Island RailRoad station, where she had long practiced falling 'tween the platform and railcar.
Word has it the LIRR would cough up over $2M for such a case - pity she couldn't sue the public entity before the private.

I agree that Apple should be made reliable, but I think that $500 should be more than enough and then they should be given some time to make a few changes to prevent this from happening again.

Why should Apple have to pay for someone else's stupidity?

Be it $500 or $5,000,000, the woman deserves nothing. I've walked in a bunch of Apple stores, both in the UK and the US without managing to break my nose. Surely I should get the $500 for competently walking through a door, shouldn't I?

I feel almost obligated to sue her. I feel a little bit stupider now for knowing I'm of the same species that's dumb enough to walk straight into a pane of glass and then blame someone else for it. I literally feel a little dumber now and, for that reason, I'm suing.

It's a shame that glass doesn't have some sort of reflective property to prevent this sort of thing. Also, if retailers wouldn't mind making it clearer that they're going to have shop front then that would be great. I, for one, assumed that there was just huge gaping holes at the front of the store.

Finally, someone teach her how to walk. Broke your nose? What? Were you walking with your neck levered out in front of you like some kind of mutated human-vulture hybrid?

News flash for you, when your 83 years old, your somewhat more frail and not as aware when your a smug young ****! lets see how you are doing at 83 if you make it that far.

At 83 to walk into something is not dumb, go spend a day in a retirement centre doing some community service to realise how older people struggle with basics.

Yup, its sad to be part of a society, where people are smug, self centred arrogant douchebags, who just think of themselves and have little respect for the elderly! You did not become a bit dumber as a result of this, just more of a douchebag!

No she does not deserve the money! Though she did break her nose for godsake! That does not make her stupid! Greedy and stupid are two different things.

No because eveyone knows of windows. The glass doors are not a common life danger.

....... .... .... ............. ... .... Glass doors are one of the most commonly used store entry doors. It is people like her that make this world so hard to make it in. People put in effort only to get taken down by a greedy old dog.

My elderly neighbour fell over in a store and hurt her knee. What did she do? Get up and go see a doctor. She is not a whiner or a complainer. She knows it was not the stores reason she fell over so this old lady getting angry at Apple has no right to complain. It is a freaking store if you see no doors then use your brain and think about the most commonly used doors on the planet for stores. If she is so blind why didn't she have help with her. Dumb for being out and about without help. She is lucky she didn't get hit by a bus.

Yes, and lawsuits like that are only possible in the USA. That says a lot about your country, its legal system and the average IQ of its population.

Considering what happened in WWII its quite ironic, I'm surprised you would say something like that. But some people have a short memory. Regardless, I've meet some wonderful people from there.

people will start suing people as a full time occupation. Why produce anything? Just sue, it makes more money. Start looking for holes in the street and make sure you trip. Spill coffee all over yourself in restaurants, maybe it hurts a little, but next thing you know you are traveling around the world in your own luxury boat.

prevent it from happening again. iFreakingGlasses.

Seriously now, don't you think for one second that it's a fraud? And you are happy that people get away with it, regardless of age? It's absolutely sick, even more when it comes from people of that age, who should be lot more wise.

she must have been on the run to break her nose. Odd seeing as how most 83-year-olds use canes to walk, or are terribly slow (no offense of course).

I mean the plan was all wrong. She should have walked up to the building, crash, and stumble back a few steps and repeat for a couple of times. That way she could testify that she is forgetful and she got injured in the head {and wherever else}. The ball would be in her court as it is a believable story.

And these old quacks tell us, the young generation, that we are the worst generation yet. Pssh, good one granny.

Silly Granny, Trix and money stunts are for Kids :)

Daddy, how did granny die? She walked into a glass wall.

If she's assuming she has a right to monetary compensation for her actions then that makes her stupid, I'm afraid.

If your intention was to defend the elderly there, you failed. You actually came off as condescending and patronising. I've walked into a bunch of stuff and I'm not 83, just as the population of the world that is 83+ years old do not automatically walk into objects.

I'm far from arrogant and have respect for many people. I can't reserve that respect for those who try to blame other for their mistakes and make a quick buck for it. She walked into the door. The door did not walk into her. Nor did the ghost of Steve Jobs resurrect himself and repeatedly smash her in the face with the door, giving literal context to the metaphorical "The Man vs Frail Old Lady" case.

Her fault. Deal with it. Plenty of people walk into stuff every day through their own clumsiness and don't sue. She's no different.

If I subscribe to your hypothesis of how old people go about their daily business then I'm afraid I couldn't do the community service you're suggesting. Surely I wouldn't be able to get through the door of the retirement home due to the mound of elderly people blocking it as a result of their failed attempts to walk through the door.

Get off your high horse.

I wouldn't be surprised if she won. The legal system is really messed up. There have been cases where burglars break into homes and get hurt in the process and then successfully sue the owner of said home.

YEP! That one burglar that cut into the roof and fell on the kitchen table that had a knife there and got injured. Sued the family living in that house for mega $$

----------

If I'd been the store manager, I would have hoped to have it dealt with there and then by offering her something fairly decent free of charge as a goodwill gesture.

Under the right circumstances, where our attention is elsewhere things like this can happen. But clearly, that is a ridiculous amount

if you start giving away free stuff for that then there will be loads of copycats and if you don't feed them they will cry hard and take you to court anyway. You may as well laugh at the old dog then clap at her for surviving so long with odds against her.

Yes, because either you and/or Winni had something to do with WWII.

If you want to go that route, how about considering what happened to the poor native americans? Rape, pillage, biological warfare... it's a wonder any American today feels like he's got any moral ground to stand on...

I only got through reading the first couple pages of this thread before I was overcome with the incredible level of hubris on display.

I don't believe in suing for this type of accident, but with the right lighting conditions and a slightly lowered level of attention, anyone can walk into a plate glass door or window.

Everyone who mercilessly mocked this woman better keep their eyes open - - for the rest of their lives.

yeah good luck with that crap to both her and her retarded layer. Oh and not that I'm undermining her pain and suffering, but what nose reset costs £75,000? No offence, but no self respecting surgeon would do plastic surgery on a patient her age and that has to do with the danger of her not waking up from what is clearly an elective surgery by any standard. So not only are all the calculations used in the claim grossly exaggerated, but they also seem to think that the whole judicial system is some kind of a retirement fund ponzi scheme. This are the few times that I wish I were the presiding judge ...

Wirelessly posted

I hope she spends all of her cash on this legal **** and loses. I would email her 5 times about her loss over and over again.

It's actually easy enough to do, most places with glass doors have a stripe across them so this doesn't happen.

Most of it is about making fun of her decision to blame Apple for walking into the door, I think. I see plenty of posters that happily disclose the fact that they bump into things on a regular basis too (without blaming Apple or anyone else).

**** happens, everyone knows that. Not all the **** that happens can be blamed on someone else, though. (Well, it can, obviously, as this old lady is showing us. That is the problem.)

That being said - people bumping into things is always amusing, so there is bound to be some laughs as people play this back in their mind's eye.
