Maybe Apple's evil plan is to slow down all devices with iOS 9 except the newest ones coming out this year, and then "fix" some of the lag later with iOS 9 updates, but keep the older devices, such as the 5s and below, with a little lag forever. Not much, but just enough to make you want to upgrade.

Because, let's face it, with 8.4.1 the 6, 5s, and 5 ran iOS at similar performance levels. Same goes for some of the newer iPads.

This is purely subjective, but I'm not sure what evil schemes Apple is at to make us throw even more money at them so they can increase earnings.
I have thought about that as well, the 5s was extremely fast on iOS 8.4.1. I only upgraded because of my 2 year contract. But speed wise, the 5s was perfect already.

Yeah. Performance and reliability is more important than new features for me. I'll stick with 8.4.1 until iOS 9 is at iOS 8 performance levels or better.

Have at it guys. What have you noticed so far?
With 9.0.2, still cannot stream .m3u site over cellular data in Safari or any other app. It works FINE over WiFi...but NOT 3G.

Voice-control now gone for dialing hands free from home button. SIRI HAS to be on now!

All I got to say is IOS 8.x all the way. Apple should not have released a new operating system with core functionality not 100 percent operational compared to previous whole version.

Then they take the option away to let users install the previous version?

I just became an Apple customer since June. I was happy to share the truth about big battery's in their tablets that get great battery life due to the optimized IOS and apps that are so much nicer.

Then they pull a "Steve Jobs" or worst a "Tim Cook" on us to force us to upgrade because the truth of the matter, IOS 9 on an A8 and 1gb ram, or slower hardware runs like well, "laggy Android". I do not even think Apple saw that coming.

I just plugged both of my iPhones in to update a note on iCloud, nothing happened had to do it myself on the phones. Never had this problem with OS 8. I am so disgusted with the iPhone, OS9 and Apple. I hope and pray 9.1 is better than what we have now. A flip phone is looking more and more attractive.

I was able to enter a new Note without any trouble, but updating an existing note did not happen(?).

If you want to see missing functionality, check out the iOS 9 Podcasts app. On an iPad it cannot play full screen video. Apple Support says use the 3rd party Downcast app instead. Unbelievable.

Ouch, Apple said this? Does not make us happy customers with that kind of response.

I am curious where the hell did this indexing rumor come from? If you upgrade to a newer IOS version, is the dam OS not already indexed from the past indexing if such a thing exists in IOS?

If you do a fresh install or buy a new device like for example the mini 4 and set it up as new device and redo everything from scratch, what the hell would the OS index besides cache the files that were already installed and cached and indexed when they flashed it to the device at the factory?

Its not indexing every-time you turn the thing on and do a reboot, and right at the beginning is when IOS9 crap lags and hitches until its all loaded under ram then it smooths out! (kind of like Android, hmm makes you think)

When you reboot any device with older hardware and IOS8 it doesn't lag or hitch at all even at the beginning when you first see the lock-screen and or unlock, and then still its butter smooth for everything without touch delays, app delays and apps taking longer to load on IOS9 in general compared to IOS8 which they over time were optimized for!

Seriously, did an APPLE engineer verified and certified state officially IOS9 is slow or lags and the excuse is just because temporarily the OS is "doing this magical indexing thing" and whenever its done whether in minutes, hours, days, months or years; IOS9 will be so much better and faster than IOS8 with even more added features a lot of us did not need?

I do not get it, because however you installed IOS8, upgraded, or bought a new device, if it was doing this "magical indexing process", the device (on IOS8) did not act up and slow down to a crawl, so if this thing is true, why would IOS9 act up and slow down to a crawl?

Some of the BS people come up with as an excuse for why IOS9 does not work like IOS8 is unbelievable!

Not pointing fingers, just generalizing and conveying my thoughts on this subject!

It's quite possible that the search database changes a touch from release to release. Even if it doesn't, it's probably a safe design decision to have the OS re-index things it would search on after a new install/upgrade of the OS. If I were the one making that decision, I'd be tempted to do that just to make sure someone doesn't goof it up once and forget to re-do the search database when it's definitely needed after an OS upgrade.

Confirmed by a dev? No idea. What I do know is that immediately after an upgrade, my device is atypically slow for about half a day to a day, then speeds up. Re-indexing is a perfectly reasonable explanation for that. iOS 9.0.2 is working like a charm for me. No need to come up with an excuse, it's crisp, responsive, and has several welcome feature additions.

I'm finding 9.0.2 in particular to be the best of iOS 9 thus far; it's better than any version of iOS 8, and also from what I can remember, it's on par, or dare I say better, than the last version of iOS 7. I'm using a iPhone 5s and iPad air, and I restored clean with iOS 9.0, updated to 9.0.1, restored clean again with 9.0.2.

Totally. iOS 9 is the best release after iOS 6. Yes, it's not free of occasional bugs and glitches, but already works very well on my iPhone 5 and Air 1. (Clean install) iOS 8 was a dead end from first to last build. Apple is on the right track, finally.

Apple said they already did the "under the hood" repairs when iOS 9 comes out. So now that it came out........*you can finish this sentence.

An update to my suspected battery life difference on 9.0.2 - still got 12 hours out of the iPad mini 4 with 4.4 hours of FaceTime audio calling.

I updated to 9.0.2 from 9.0 last night (DFU restore followed by restoration of my backup). Seems much the same as 9.0. I have noticed that I'm now able to delete emails and other notifications from the notification centre. In 9.0 the delete option was there if you swiped left, but it didn't work. Slight jitters here and there seem unchanged, as does battery life (no real difference from 7.1.2 - I skipped ios8). Personally I find it just a little less smooth and a little slower than 7.1.2, but perfectly adequate and in no way a disaster.

Edit: iPhone 5S.

You don't understand indexing AT ALL!

Oh please. Just stop this crap. It is so sickening! My iPhone 6 performs just as well. You are so repetitive. Do you not have a life???

iOS9.0 and 9.0.1 were horrible on both my iPad mini2 and iPhone 5s but since 9.0.2 both devices are a lot better but still in comparison to iOS8.4 these are the good and the bad.

the bad
- 3rd party keyboards lag is very annoying there is some with Swype (still after yesterdays update) on both iPhone and iPad and major lag with Path Input for iPad
- in some cases i couldn't select the 3rd party keyboard in Spotlight search
- slight delay in opening apps and actually showing the content of the app

the good
- no more resprings on iPad mini2 with various apps (Apple or 3rd party) which was the case with iOS8.3 and iOS8.4

Can somebody explain to me why my iPhone 6s do not show the preview videos in the apps store ?

I noticed that unlocking the iPhone 6 takes a bit longer to actually unlock using the touch sensor. Anyone else experience this?

I have the same issue. Then, once it is unlocked, I have to wait a couple of seconds before attempting to do anything as it seems the phone just isn't ready yet. If I unlock the phone and immediately swipe or tap an app it acts like it begins to work but then does nothing. If I wait 2 or 3 seconds it starts working.

Still really jittery for me. Animations are still all over the map in regards to consistency. Closing out of safari there is quite a bit of lag or it just hangs for a second then the springboard appears. Music is really slow to open and load.
It acts like there are thousands of apps running and it can't process everything.

Maybe next time Apple, you fired and missed....again

Agreed. I wish I hadn't updated. It's definitely not near as smooth or quick.

Does anyone realize these complaining posts happen with every single new update, and then reference the update before it as being the best? lol.

I have 9.0.2 on an iPhone 5S and a 6 Plus, both run incredible. I did notice a slight lag/stutter issue with 9.0.
