laughable the iPhone 6+ shipped with 1GB RAM, makes the phone all but useless. Can't even quit Safari and go back without forcing a page reload.

Maybe Apple finally realized that their hardware disparity w/ RAM cannot continue as much as they want. 3GB will be in the 7 Plus in all likelihood.

I was trying to overlook the lack of 3D Touch and talk myself into this, but now that we know the ram is only 2GB and the processor is underclocked, this is a definite pass for me! With sales tax and accessories, we're talking about an $1,100+ tablet with a mobile OS. Why would anyone buy this over a proper laptop/ PC??? (Even one that's five years old.) Apple seems really determined to kill off the iPad. It's clear to me they don't know what the hell they're doing. Time for some new creative blood. "This is sad." :/

Did people really believe they'd make the smaller and cheaper model perform better than their top of the line model?

What are you on about? Having to push less pixels, some apps will likely run faster on the iPhone se than they do on the 6s+!

I was going to purchase the new iPad and now it comes out that it only has 2GB of RAM? Are you kidding me?? The same as iPhone SE or even my old iPad Air 2. Why the hack do you call it PRO? This is insane.. Now I'm really considering getting the big iPad Pro..

I guess Phil did his upsell job then...will probably get a bonus for it.

Underclocking of the processor is probably for battery/heat reasons and something nobody would notice if it wasn't pointed out to them. But lack of RAM is absolutely noticed and I would never buy another iPad with less than 2GB RAM.

iPhone SE just gone up in my book! Shame it's only 5-6 month before iPhone 7 renders it about $250.

iPad Pro 9.7 feels more like the iPad Pretender - with only 2GB ram; look at the screenshot it's already used 77% RAM. Gee.

At Pro 9.7's price level between the camera bump, the 2GB RAM, USB 2 - it's a upgrade to be skipped - bring OLED next time please!

And we don't know what's open on the machine that has 77% used.

Almost no app developer will target the very tiny 4GB memory iDevice market. No matter how you put it, early adopters have been screwed unless they really really wanted a bigger screen.

It is just not about the apps, but just how many app and/or safari tabs you can have on a running state. -

The SE sounds like a solid release and I predict it'll do very well. The 9.7 iPad "Pro" with the same amount of RAM as my Air 2, means I probably won't be upgrading right now.

I agree, but most people won't have a clue how much ram either model have and will be lining up to get the "pro" model and saying "wow, the pro is only 100.00 more than the air 2 was".

Pro 12.9 is not too far ahead. 2.16Ghz vs 2.25 Ghz. Reminds me of those Intel Centrino laptops - whereby the difference is diminished. Offering about 96% performance in single core, and 94% in dual-core. 12.9:

The 4K support for the camera is nice... but really, nobody should be taking photos/videos with their iPad/tablet.
I like the idea of taking video and then editing right on the same iPad. Much more straightforward than taking the video on another device and then getting it to the iPad for editing.

Why were people expecting an IPad Pro? Clearly it's a new name to REPLACE the air line. There won't be anymore Airs.

It is an IPad Air 3 spec wise and very poor update. To go from the Air 1/2 not worth it.

Had they kept it £399 fair enough but to change £100 more is incredible and takes Apple customers for granted. We all know camera parts are very cheap and few use the camera on an IPad.

When I seen the price rise I thought on £60 for a pencil that could be sold on eBay then I found out they sell that sepetate.

I have a 64gb iPad Air 2 that was £479. They want £499 for a 32gb model now.

The 9.7 model is now priced people out the market at £100 more. People will buy older models. Surely they will later release a cheaper 16gb model or sales will be shocking? iPad sales have been dropping and they will drop even further after this.

Oh well, I knew it was too good to be true. I was so impressed with the new 9.7inch iPad Pro and thinking that it was going to have the same 4GB ram I was prepared to buy one. However, I'm not too sure now after finding out it will only have 2GB ram and an underpowered A9X cpu. Shame considering this is the first time ive been impressed by an apple product revealed at an apple event in a long time.

Well, essentially, that's exactly what they gave you—an iPad Air with pencil support. PLUS the latest screen technology and 4K support in the upgraded camera.

you're missing the spirit of my frustration. they bumped the 9.7 into a more expensive product category (by a very non-trivial $250 for me in canada) and skimped on things that one would expect from that price increase (ram and processor deficits are whats going to determine how quickly the iPad becomes slow and unpleasant to use). ignoring the fact that apple has upgraded the iPads cameras and speakers in the past without needing to raise the price, none of those things would even drive an iPad purchase for me, so they're basically asking me to pay extra for a bunch of stuff i don't want.

as i said, maybe i'm in the minority, but for me the value proposition of this update is TERRIBLE. and i was so hopeful.

Good on the SE...Apple will sell loads.

Bad for the Pro 9.7...looks like I'm hanging onto my iPad 2 w/iOS 7 and will wait for the iPP 2.

And I'm fine with that.

Silly Apple!

That's great news for the SE and makes it a really compelling option for the price.

2GB of RAM, however, just doesn't feel like enough for an iPad. My old iPad 3 has 1GB of RAM and virtually any website will crash it within a few minutes after running out of RAM. Just having double the RAM isn't going to do it. Actually, even 4GB might not be enough, though I'll admit I haven't used the big iPad Pro for more than a few minutes.

Sadly, modern webpages are incredibly RAM heavy. On my desktop I commonly see "infinite scrolling" style sites consume multiple gigabytes of ram for a single tab. The move to more and more JS framework-driven sites means this is only going to be become more common.

It isn't so much the site itself but the countless trackers many of them want to use. Browsing since 9.0 with ad blockers has made the experience so much better.

Apple gimps at will. Gimped, gimped, gimping like it was 2014.

This is like iPad Mini 2/3 debacle.

Terrible.

Underclocked and only 2GB of Ram. Apple; what are you doing to the iPads? Bumping features in one area and downgrading in others. I wish there was only one ultimate model like in the old days.

Apple strategy is identical to Sony. Another way to think of it is buying an Armani suit, wearing some flip flops.

The great thing about the IPP 12.9 is the fact whenever I use it it is smooth as butter and extremely rare crashing in any app. Ironically the only apps that crash are Apple apps: News and some older Airport utility app.

I'm sure Apple has thought out all of the options very carefully and have made certain decisions based on their analysis with the understanding most of their customers just want to thing to work well. Those people who elect not to buy because of specs, apple IMO figures, will be balanced by those who want to purchase this device and don't care about spec diving.

Ick! Well since they gimped on the 9.7" Pro RAM, I may chug along with my 4 year old iPad3 for another year. That will hurt it in the long run...

Wow - I didn't know the difference made by the RAM is such a big difference. Looks as if going from 2 to 4GB is significant as going from iPad 1 to iPad 2 - former wasn't really usable with multi-tab.

Apple cheapens out on "Pro" spec in creating a "Pro" product with "Pro" Price.

The only thing Apple didn't do with the iPhone SE is offer a 128 GB option and I'm not sure why they didn't. Had they done that, I might've considered selling my 128 GB iPhone 6 and going back to a 4" screen. I'd like to have the extra RAM and I don't care about 3D Touch. Having an extra 0.7" of screen real estate is nice; but I'm not sure it's worth an extra $250 over the latest gen 4.7" model. No 128 GB option makes it a deal breaker for me, though. Kudos to Apple for releasing a compelling 4" phone, though.

It's a smaller device- not too entirely shocked. Apple wanted to make more affordable devices for consumers and that they did.
