I am traveling in Japan and Singapore and had the unfortunate brick condition hit me two days into my trip.
Sorry to hear your device was bricked BUT there is a lesson here ... never, ever do an OS update when you are travelling.
Agreed that would be a bonus. I have 9.3.1 9.7pro with the issue. Thought it was just me.Now would be a good time for Apple to introduce the capability of downgrading to a (previously supported) version of iOS.
No really its terribleYou make it sound much worse than it really is. Stop doing that.
There are many lessons here...
- Apple is steadily becoming a ghost of its former glory, expectations need to be realigned.
- Don't pay premium prices for products lacking quality.
- No longer trust the old adige of It Just Works
- Be afraid, be very afraid.
That's a common argument. "Things were just as bad back then but we only know more about them now which gives the appearance that things are worse".While I do think there's room for improvement in the quality control department, Apple had its share of screw ups when Steve was around. Perhaps one thing that's changed over the years is the way the social media aspect of the Internet has morphed into this beast ready to pounce on any negative news or potential scandals and blow them up sky high.
For someone not trying to downplay the issue, you're doing a pretty good job of it.That said, I'd be pretty annoyed if a software update bricked my brand new iPad, so I'm not trying to downplay any issues people are experiencing. I rolled the dice and updated mine with no issues.

Apple themselves are admitting that there's an issue. This is not a matter of the internet and social media blowing the situation out of proportion. If Apple is acknowledging the issue, then it is a safe bet that it is actually WORSE than people are reporting. Apple hardly ever takes lead on issues... generally things have to get to a point of a threat of a class-action lawsuit before they will acknowledge an issues exists.

where many don't even own an iPad Pro
My iPad Pro literally just crashed now, for the second time since I got it a few months back.

Daily headaches with my current iphone
Mine is rock solid. Wonder if you use special apps?

I know it's not related to the bricking issue but why would you leave the ipad on overnight? With phones I can see the point of leaving them on standby but why do the same with a tablet. I guess some people may use the alarm feature to wake them in the morning but you can buy a digital alarm clock for less than £10.

People could say you are making it sound okay, when some people don't think it is.You make it sound much worse than it really is. Stop doing that.
What are special apps? Arent all apps in app store ones that were all equally scrutinized by apple and only then released to the public to receive hefty loyalty fees from them?
So I have a 9.7 iPad Pro with 256GB of storage. I have been following this thread and staring at the red number 1 next to Software Update, swearing that I would wait for Apple to step in and address this obvious problem. Without any real reason for doing so, I decided to click the upgrade button and see what happened. I wasn't looking forward to seeing my new device brick on me, and dreading even more the endless syncing that I would have to endure even if the brick was unbricked. But nothing happened. The upgrade went through without a hitch. I don't even know what the 9.3.2 (13F69) upgrade does, but it didn't result in a brick in my case. So this is just FYI and wondering whether the storage amount is a factor.
