Hey all,
I just took my 9.7 Pro into the Apple store this afternoon, after they Genius looked at it they agreed that a replacement was the course of action. He looked at his inventory and said that they were 'Out of stock' and that he was going into the back to see if they had any. I pulled out my phone and searched in the Apple Store app and sure enough, the exact model of iPad I was 'replacing' was 'Ready for pick-up at the Apple store'...They were trying to get me a refurbished iPad to replace my less-than-a-month-old iPad that THEY BRICKED!!! I think they mush have cameras or mics at the Genius Bar because a few seconds later the Genius comes out and gives me the ol' "I spoke with my manager" routine and says they can do an exchange with a new iPad.

Seriously, I hope all of you out there with a bricked-by-apple 9.7" iPad Pro DEMAND a new, not a refurbished, replacement...The nerve of these people, seriously!

So you guys skipped iOS 2,5 and 6...

2, 4, and 8 are my top three worst since each of them introduced new internal design paradigms — App Store, Multitasking, and Extensions, respectively — which caused the most instability system wide. Poor iOS 9 is just getting wrecked on the updates tho. I rather liked 6 (and its UI)

I have noticed for my iPad mini 2 that I have had some "frozen" apps in the past 3-5 days. Would be in them, then they would "boot" me out. Seemed to have solved for now with a complete shut on and off.

I'm glad my iPad Pro hasn't yet notified me of this upgrade.

With Apple updates these days it always pays to wait and see before upgrading.
My Ipad Air is still on ios8. My IpT5 is still on ios7. For the latter, I didn't want to roll the dice on whether or not this break the IpT, still work fine, or something in between like laggy/poor performance.

TBF, I've been doing that with MANY OS-es for awhile now....
I've stayed on Windows XP for the longest time
My desktop is still on Win7
My Samsung Galaxy s2 decided to update itself from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 one day o_O
My Samsung Galaxy s4 is on 4.4.4, although IIRC, I was on 4.2?

My Chromebook eventually forces me to update, although Chrome OS is one OS that I'm willing to update ASAP whenever a new build comes out.
Palm OS no longer issues updates :p

Not only the iPad...
My 6s had been restarting overnight randomly where it prompts me to input the pass code when I wake up to use it the first time in the day.

Apple needs to test their stuff better. It feels sloppy lately. I thought they were finally catching their stride again but now QA is failing hard. I criticized those who said Apple was getting sloppy and they are getting sloppy with releases....so I stand corrected. Did they test this with developers first? Maybe they should allow developers to go back to the last official release of iOS so more developers would be encouraged to try out the new stuff without the fear they can't go back to the current official release.

They will probably release a stable version just weeks before iOS 10 is launched and the madness begins all over again. This reminds me of the bad old days crossing my fingers every time a Windows update was applied to my computer. Doesn't anyone at Apple see the anger they're generating within the user base with all these problems? Or maybe they do and just don't care.

I know it's not related to the bricking issue but why would you leave the ipad on overnight? With phones I can see the point of leaving them on standby but why do the same with a tablet. I guess some people may use the alarm feature to wake them in the morning but you can buy a digital alarm clock for less than £10.
Also, general notices like txt, Facebook calls, Skype calls, etc.

If I'm on vacation or travelling, I don't want to have to pack another item. I like how my phone can double up as an alarm. My PDA or phone for that matter too.

I've turned them off if I knew I wasn't going to use them for a while (like packed in a suitcase), to "restart" it (rare) or to conserve battery so I can use it when I needed to (like I know I'll be at a wifi spot later on). Otherwise, it's got good enough battery life to not really need to keep turning it on and off.

Thanks Macrumors for lighting a digital fire under Apple and publishing a story.

And before all the trolls say " no one at Apple reads macrumors". They do actually since macrumors regularly publishes site traffic from inside Apple when major new versions of software comes out.

Two hrs at Apple store, and had to chat with Apple Care at the apple store via chat, they believe it is a hardware issue and it could be 24 hrs to 3 months before it is fixed.
grrrrrr

People's perception of a company changes overtime reflecting how they do their business. I would say putting 5400rpm hhd in a premiumly priced pc; decreasing ssd by a third of previous generation size in fusion drive (the first time actually this tech company is taking reverse steps) and only mentioning in a fine print; putting obsolete 16gb on iOS devices to make "staring as low as blah blah" advertisements; skipping practical 32gb that middle class needs to sell 64gb in oder to generate more income all shows how they are nickle and diming everyone. I dont know who would find these attractive. I for one would love to praise Apple but realistically I find their strategy rather unsavory for such an established company.
Why do you support them?
[doublepost=1463539275][/doublepost]I'd admit that I am annoyed my iPad Pro 9.7 does this - but it's only happened about 5-8 times since release day. I have spent more time ready these comments than it takes to be fully functional again.

Do I want it fixed? Yes. Would I recommend an iPad Pro 9.7 to someone? Yes.

Maybe this is the reason my iPad is using so much battery in standby

I have noticed the same thing. My iPad Pro was at 100% today at noon. I put it in my briefcase and pulled it out 10 hours later to find the battery was down to 19%. I had noticed the battery going down pretty fast over the past week but today was ridiculous. Its only a few weeks old.

My iPhone and my girlfriend's 6s are getting this crash also since last week...
I believed 9.3.2 would resolve this but it haven't...
It is random and has happened 3 or 4 times but I never got this kind of crashes in my iphone before and I use iphones since 2011.
Anyone else in the same boat?

Sorry it's a little off the topic but in some way related...

I really wanted to try a complete switch from Mac to iOS only and bought a 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It could have worked for my tasks, but now its going back tomorrow.

If I have to rely on a device where you can't do anything to fix it yourself after something like that "brick update" happens and the battery is loading only 2% in 3 hours while just browsing in this forum and maybe even draining when I am doing heavier tasks while it is plugged in, then those two reasons alone are already enough for me to don't do it.

I will upgrade my 17" MacBook Pro Late 2011 from El Capitan to Linux and my next new phone won't have iOS on it. I am even thinking about selling the MBP and the 6s Plus to use the 13" MacBook Mid-2010 and the 4s instead.

Better sooner (before WWDC) than later. Or should I wait... I don't expect any big change in iOS and OS X. I even fear there won't be any new "major" version this year. Normally it would be good to finish an OS before releasing the first beta of a new one. But now it's time for some real new MAJOR release.

...ios 9.3.2 update just bricked my 9'7 ipad pro...was on phone with apple for an hour...they'll get back to me in a few days after analysing my ipad updater logs...lol

Mine is among the ones that are not bricked after the update. It works flawlessly after 9.3.2. Hope you guys that are affected can find a solution. Cheers.

I am traveling in Japan and Singapore and had the unfortunate brick condition hit me two days into my trip. Apple Support is still in denial, at least with me, that this is a wide spread issue. They made me go through all the steps that I had already gone through to try and get past it but "Error 56" still shows up. Ended the chat when they insisted that I must have a hardware issue unrelated to the update. Yes, just today, when I updated the software the hardware decided to fail after two months?? I have no choice but to wait until I get back home to go to a store and have it repaired/replaced.

ios 9 is a complete trainwreck.

Yes it is. I have had more problems with iOS 9, than any other iOS I have used. This is on a few devices.

Every release since iOS 6 has been shaky right off the hop - pretty disappointing really.

yep i agree. I have had every iphone up to the 6 and things look bleak. I may have gotten a lemon phone though. Here are my issues:

GPS often does not work (stuck on "locating") with multiple apps
constant wifi drops
phone shuts down and is dead with battery percentage ranging from 50 to 20%
facetime camera surround has moved (again) blocking the camera
lightning connector seems "loose" (cords often just fall out or dont seat properly; yes I have checked for and removed lint)
touch ID works 10% of the time

many of these are hardware issues but there are a slew of software problems as well

You make it sound much worse than it really is. Stop doing that.
