And people were wondering what harm could come of Gizmodo posting the iPhone images a couple of months ago........

It is devices like these that will further increase the value of the leaked iPhone images.
Harm? The only thing this glorified soap bar accomplishes is to make the real iPhone look even better. Do you honestly believe that this miserable toy will steal customers away from Apple? This knock-off is for people who couldn't afford a real iPhone in a million years.

people all over the world just trying to make a living.

Yeah, that would only make sense if you also believe that ONLY developed and tactful nations are capable of original thought.

Not.

Maybe originality is looked down on in these poor nations...

you guys do realize the price of this phone is probably 1/6 the price of an unlocked iphone, has removable battery and usb interface, among other things.

true, this phone is aimed at the asian market, and it's not because asians "desire something cool and western, yet could never afford an real iphone in their lifetime" but because the need is different.

in which way is "the need different"?
i'd say pirated dolce&gabbana, nike etc is aimed at people who'd like to wear the original but can't afford it. similar to the iphone

Why is the Chinese stuff always a terribly bad rip-off of everyone else's products? This is bad, but their cars are worse.

original thought and idea is one thing, R&D, paying engineers in their labs, etc.... is another.

i'm not in any way condoning piracy, (i've had my music ripped off and pirated all over the world), but different conditions and economies and histories lead to different moral codes and standards in different countries

Actually this is a prototype of the soon-to-be released iPhone Retro 99. Features include pull out antenna, bulky design, funky "not quite there yet" icons and font, faded and worn out screen, gee whiz slow AMPS wireless technology, and an amazing 1lb user replaceable 3hr battery. Everything you need to party like it was 1999 all over again. Pleather case $29 extra, where available.

Can't comment... I'm still laughing at the "APad" with an "iPed" application on the home screen (child porn, anyone? :D)

Can the Chinese do anything without copying others?

many chinese believe that we have been ripping them off for a couple of hundred years - their culture being quite a bit older than ours - and that they are therefore justified in 'borrowing' our inventions. anything to catch up to our standard of living after the last phase of communism and poverty. in addition business practice is a little more ruthless, towards foreign corporations and towards their own workforce.

Fakes-R-Us

Fakes like that will drive Apple's sales of real iP's upward. Cheap people who get one of those will be unhappy with it and want the real thing. There's a reason for buying quality.

not surprised, I've seen ton of ipod counterfeits before, I don't think this clone will have good battery life, and by the looks of it horrible interface.. I actually bought a ipod clone way back, and it was pretty bad :p

Just goes to show something like font makes a huge difference in the overall appearance. Steve was right to be so picky all these years, the font they went with on this fake looks horrible.
