apple probably made a new dvi. they have mini and micro. they'll probably call this one macrodvi.

One thing I don't think anyone mentioned is, does anyone else find it suspicious that this "leak" appeared literally an hour after all the big sites posted news topics about the Oct 14th date possibly not being correct? Perhaps it is an intentional "leak" to keep hype up? Or am I grasping at straws here? Just seems odd to me.

Why do I get the feeling that the reason why we have not seen any more pictures is because the photographer has been fed to the sarlacc by Steve Jobs.

Well, if the rumors before this were true, that means the MacBook Pros are manufactured in USA. Why then is it leaked in a chinese forum?

Just because Apple built a plant doesn't mean it's in the US.

+1 you're right about that!
this photo must be the real thing! :D

if there is supposed to be a new plant in the US, why did the chinese leak this picture? At least now we know there will be blue ray!!!

Is it me or did I just notice there is a big shiny touch-pad thing on the top left corner?

Okay. This is the first time I've been fussed about an Apple refresh since the original Al-book 12 and 17 launch.

My thoughts: the pictures look like they are genuine and I agree that the mystery port is likely a new DVI-variant. Now if they've got it right it would be dongleably convertible to HDMI 1.3 (yes including audio feeds) as well as VGA (which straight HDMI doesn't support afaik) as well as DVI-D. But who knows...

Also it's clearly (as has been mentioned) a two-piece design albeit inverted from the traditional al-book configuration of ports-on-the-lower-portion. Slide-in-components while a neat idea are probably just not practical or economical. To my mind it follows the cues from the Air design where the upper portion housing the keyboard extends right to the edge with a bit of a lip - beneath which the lower casing snugly fits "seamlessly" when seen from above.

One final thought (and yes I know it really belongs in the other thread) I'd not be at all surprised if a launch internally planned for the 14th was put back by up to a month given all that's going on. By then the attention span for economic doom will have lessened (even if the severity has not) and you yanks will have a shiny new president and there will be space in the papers/etc again.

What I actually want at this stage is a vastly souped-up Air! But we ain't had no rumours on that have we?

There! Tuppenceworth!

interesting

this is interesting and all however I am more interested in how apple will utilize the atom processor. They are getting killed by the sub notebook 300-500 laptops right now. They need to come out with one in the 600-800 price range.

That might just be the protection film.

Yeah I hope so!! Shiny aluminum isn't beautiful at all!!
Anyway, I really can,t wait for those new notebooks. I need smaller book for school. My MBP is way too heavy and large for school!!

So I need to buy either the new MacBook or the MacBook Air soon. But I think imma wait after WWDC in January... in case they introduce a long-awaited MacBook Touch!!!

Looks to me like it's just the top half... And about that odd shaped port, perhaps USB 3.0?

If so, would that perhaps indicate that we won't see new MBPs for another few months? It would be cool if the new MBPs were among the first laptops with USB 3.0 input, don't you agree? =)

Can't be USB 3.0, they're the same size as USB 2.0. They just add new pins to the top side of the connector, so that the bottom side is used for backwards compat, the top is used for 3.0. Some info on it and pics of connector.

Edit: Suppose I shouldn't be so definitive, it could be possible. But to maintain backwards compatibility, they new sockets are only deeper, the actual plug is supposed to be the same size, hence not needing a wider/taller socket.

 From what I've seen on this and other tech forums, the atom processor isnt that great for anything besides netbooks. Did I hear wrong?

Your looking from the wrong angle. The top key is esc.

Thanks for pointng that out.

I have a feeling that the new Macbook Pro will only have ports laid out on one side instead of both and having the slot-loading drive relocated to the right side (Macbook esq?)

And the mystery port might just be a connector for a docking station/port replicator of some sorts.

I have a feeling that this is the Macbook and not the MBP

It may be, but it doesn't seem possible unless there'll be a 15" MB. The full size keyboard doesn't fit with the speaker grills. Even so, if say they have a 15" MB, they're not going to upgrade the MB without upgrading the MBP otherwise the MB would be superior to the MBP. Hopefully there IS a 15" MB, requiring there to be a 16" and 18" MBP, 16:9 of course. ^_^
