Do you care that the iPhone 7 came without a headphone jack?

  • Yes, I still wish the iPhone 7 would have come with a headphone jack.

  • No, I never did and/or bluetooth/lightning-adapter are fine for my usage.

How much usage per day? I mean, if you spend a total of 6 or 6 hours on the phone, do they last several days? How about listening to music and making calls for a continuous 8-10 hours?

It's one thing to last several days if you just use them for a couple calls, listen to music for 25 miles on the train to work, maybe an hour at the gym, etc...

I also never found a pair of wireless ear buds that sat well in my ears, didn't wobble or wiggle around, and that let me pop on a helmet and go ride without them working loose and falling out when I removed the helmet...
BeatsX are 8 hours continuous use, and 2 hours playback after a 5 minute charge if they run out.

I am on a conf call now, and because the phone didn't come with a dongle and aftermarket ones don't work, I am using the included EarBuds from Apple with the lightning connector...

I hear a slight hiss and static with these when nobody is talking, and they sit very loosely in the ear, so I notice them wiggling around as I move at my desk, and I am constantly re-seating them in my ears.

And the audio quality is acceptable, but nowhere near as good as the AKG headphones that came with my S9+... I will give those a try when Amazon delivers my Apple branded dongle.... I don't even think that the AKG's are expensive, but they sound great. Very clear, punchy base and they do an excellent job of getting rid of ambient noises, they stay put in my ears, etc...

If Apple just included a decent set of lightning earbuds that didn't suck, I probably wouldn't mind the headphone jack issue as much. They made ear buds that looks very nice, but don't actually work work a damn. Form over function, once again...
[doublepost=1543345702][/doublepost]I notice that the audio on these is... "muddy"... a bit muffled, the highs are not crystal clear, the bass is soft and not punchy... Every pair of Apple included earbuds I have ever used, sounded this way, and were never very good...

It's not just headphones... I could connect to a wide variety of older cars and devices like home receivers, using the AUX input... It's one of those things that can be handy to have. Yes, I can buy a dongle, and I have, but I notice that there is hissing and background noise with the dongle, that isn't there when I plug the earbuds into a phone with a headphone jack...

It's not the end of the world for me, but if people are asking if we miss it, or would prefer to have it as an option, then yes, absolutely. What is the benefit to me, to NOT have it? Nothing...

I am glad I am not the only one that connects to cars and other devices with the AUX port . . . .

Can you imagine the cheering, after Tim Cook is ousted, when the new CEO of Apple announces the return of the headphone jack at the Keynote?

I hope whoever comes after Tim Cook, actually takes the company forward rather than bringing the company back to the 80s before Jobs returned. Every company has the highs and lows. At some point apple will reach that point.

Your post couldn’t Be anymore incorrect. And
I’m referring to the 3.5 Jack returning. Do you really expect Apple to revert back to using a 3.5 mm Jack after deleting it? How many times have _multiple_ Apple executives stated that the 3.5 Jack was antiquated and needed to be to removed for battery and other tech advancements? Maybe you shouldn’t just blame Tim Cook, because Phil Schiller, Dan Riccio and Greg Joswiak *All* commented on why the 3.5 mm Jack should have been removed.

Oh, and nothing indicates Tim Cook is being ousted either, so let’s not falsely predict something you don’t know.

I hope Tim Cook is working on more important things than headphone jacks.

Besides, even according to the poll most people on MacRumors don't care about it being removed.

I don't miss the headset jack onn bit. Even on phones where I still have the jack, I simply don't use it and I have a few Note 9s and an S9+.

I use Bluetooth in the car or connect the lightning cable and use my iPhone in iPod mode or carplay. Up until about 6 months ago, I was still using my 160GB iPod classic in my car.

I have Airpods for when I'm at home and even then, I only use them maybe once or twice a month if that.

The same people telling us we are stupid for missing it, will suddenly tell us how brave Apple is for bringing it back... Lemmings... LOL

Because polls of Apple fans is pretty much always going to show you that Apple fans tend to support almost everything that Apple does. That's the beauty of being a lifestyle brand. Most people are not there for the features, they are there because they want to feel special, and Apple products make them feel special.

I thought I would be a hold-out with my SE, but I upgraded to 7 without a thought about the socket.

There has only been two instances that I wanted to plug in and didnt have an adapter, both times in the car. Since then a bluetooth adapter (cheaper than a dongle) was put in by myself, and now everyone can connect easily without any mucking about with leads.

So that's why you bought an Apple Watch?

I have said many times what Apple does right. Tablets and watches. Android can't touch them there.

I have a 12.9" iPad Pro that I bought last year, and I literally use it hours each day, I charge it twice a week, LOVE the thing. Only other tablet I would even consider is a Surface, so that I can run full desktop apps and plug it in to my truck and bike's ECU harness for tuning and diagnostics...

And I went through several Android watches and none of them really nailed it. The Galaxy watch was good, but still fell short because they opted to load it with Tizen, rather than Android Wear...

So my choice was to stick with the better phone but lesser watch, or... switch sides for awhile and get the better watch and a phone that was simply "good enough"... So that's what I did.

In 6 months I may get bored and switch back, who knows. I am not loyal to ANY brand... Most people are a "Ford guy", or a "Glock man", or whatever... I am not. I own every brand of gun, I have owned most brands of cars(except exotics), I have had 22 motorcycles of all different brands, etc...

I have brand preferences, of course, but in the end, if I see a better deal or something else that appeals to me, I tend to go for it and that applies to phones just like it does everything else...

A lot of us buy Apple products because we have made rational choices as well.

I don't mind that Apple removed the headphone jack. I was more inconvenienced when they removed the floppy drive from the Mac because Windows computers held onto it for so long that people would give us floppies at work years later. Plugged in a USB floppy drive and moved on.

Sometimes change can be a little painful, but a wireless future for mobile devices makes perfect sense.

But it's not wireless. You just moved the wire from the phone, to the wall, and added another device to have to be charged. And I can't say this enough... we didn't give up one, to get the other. We had both, for decades. They simply took one away, and gave us nothing to replace it.

I am fine with phasing out outdated tech to make way for the new. But BT, wasn't new, and nothing had to be taken away to get it, as we already had it.

That's the point that I can't seem to get people to understand, and that is the part that frustrates me more than the missing jack does... LOL

Perhaps because your view is different from the rest of us! Move on. We have. If you don’t want an iPhone without a jack, buy an old one, buy an android or buy a dongle.
Happy with my superior sounding Bose headphones thanks.

Apple's implementation of it is new. I hated it before. Pairing was always a pain. It would break up. It sounded like crap.

Apple added the W1 chip, which I have no idea what it does, but my headphones automatically pair to any device I'm logged into, like my iPad, iPhone, or Mac.

The battery life is great and it charges up quickly. It's one cable - the same one for my phone - in case I do need it.

You really should try BeatsX or AirPods and return them if you don't like them. I like BeatsX because I can hang them off my neck, they provide better isolation from outside noise than AirPods, and they were cheaper.

Maybe one day... I will just use my dongle that is arriving today and stick with wired headsets for my conf calls and stuff. My bike helmet is BT, my outdoor home theater is BT so I can control music from my watch when I am swimming or in the hot tub.

My opposition to removing the jack is more ideological than anything. I just like to have options, and there are still valid uses for the jack, that's all... If I am gonna give up something, I usually expect to get something in return. haha

I don't think the issue is that you don't understand, rather I think the issue is that you're not happy that others don't support your resistance to change. The study of psychology could help you with that.. and with your denial.

I think that people think that because you take issue with something, that you must be a "hater"...

There are lots of things that I love about Ducati. It's my preferred brand, despite me having many bikes of other make over the years. There is something just cool about them.

However, I have spent many a night swearing at one, knuckles bleeding, because someone in Italy decided that something was "good enough" and then sodded off for a cappuccino.... Something as simple as swapping out the front sprocket to lower the gearing for more drive off of corners, which is normally a 15 minute job, now takes over an hour and a lot of cursing because they made it needlessly complicated...

Just because I get irritated at that, doesn't mean I hate the brand or think that they suck as a whole... They just did something that impacts me negatively, and it annoys me...

Designing any product (bike, phone, computer) you have to make a lot of assumptions based on the average user. There will always be some that fall outside of that perimeter due to their usage.

Lets put it another way. If you put a survey out that said what is your preference:
Longer battery life or headphone jack, I'm sure most would go for the battery.

No point having wired headphones when you are out of juice!

That's not it at all. I just think that when things are still useful, and literally tens of millions of people use it daily, why ditch it?

I mean, you keep talking about resistant to change and embracing the future, yet in most regards, Apple has been behind the competition by a couple years when it comes to features, capabilities and even screen size options...

So wouldn't your logic apply to you as well? Or is it just one sided?

If you want to embrace the future and leave the past behind, you should have left the iPhone years ago... But you didn't, did you? Why not?

I get that...

But giving something to GET something, is different than just giving something up...

Using my bike analogy again...

Ducati wanted to make the change from their time honored l-twin engine configuration, to a modern V4. They were met with a lot of resistance by Ducati fanboys, because "This isn't what we are used to! It's always been a big twin cylinder motor, that's one of the things that makes it a Ducati!"...

The old guard, resisting change, because change was different and scary.

But Ducati wasn't doing it just for the sake of change. They were not taking something away without giving something in return. They were able to centralize mass, and put even more horsepower into the motor. They just announced the new Panigale V4R. 234hp in a bike weighing under 400lbs. That's staggering.

People realized that ok, we are giving up "tradition", but in doing so, we didn't actually give anything up, we gained performance and reliability....

So there is good change because it adds to something, and then there is change where they just take it away...

The headphone jack, is the latter.

Again, my dongle arrives today and so it's not a huge issue for me, but we are still entitled to an opinion on the matter, even if it doesn't jive with yours...
