The new update should be out any day now. It's just waiting on Apple's approval.

Also, I know everyone is excited about AT&T allowing VoIP over their GSM network. That won't be on the next update. Apple first has to update their developer agreements. As soon as Apple has done that, we will submit a version of Acrobits Softphone that works over GSM.

What can we expect in the new update :D?

Acrobits Softphone 2.5

The new update will have some great new features and a couple of bug fixes.
  • Bluetooth Support
  • Audio Codec Preferences - the ability to prioritize the audio codecs and disable ones you don't want to use; specify different codecs for different SIP accounts
  • bug fix for people experiencing a lot of static on their calls
  • bug fix for a reinvite issue
But keep checking back, we are already working on the following update;
Acrobits Softphone 3.0!

Tried new version today. I do see the codec settings are now available but haven't made a change yet. Unfortunately, this version doesn't seem to fix the echo issues I am having (other person hearing there own voice). I'll try the GSM codec tomorrow to see if that helps.

One "improvement" I see has gone the wrong direction is whenever I select the speakerphone (pretty much every call) a dialog box comes up to ask if I want the "phone" or the "speaker"...I just pushed the speaker button so I obviously want the speaker...(reminds me of the worst thing about Windows...having to confirm and reconfirm every single action). Please go back to previous behavior and just enable the speaker when the user wants the speaker. I could understand if there are multiple choices like headset, car handsfree and speaker but not if no other alternative is available.

Speakerphone button in 2.5

Selecting another codec probably won't make any difference to echo. We use the iPhone builtin echo cancellation algorithms, make sure they are enabled in Settings->Preferences->Voice Processing. Lowering the volume is the best way to get rid of the echo, turning it down just one click can make a big difference.

I agree 100% about the speaker button, unfortunately this is the only way how we can enable Bluetooth headset support. If you have a Bluetooth headset connected, you'll be able to pick it as the active audio equipment from that box. This is the only way how 3rd party apps can use the Bluetooth on iPhone; even if it's clumsy, we've decided the Bluetooth support is worth it.

BUT there is an easy way to use the old behavior of the speakerphone button, just go to Settings->Preferences and disable the Bluetooth support. That's it!

Thanks for the tip on the bluetooth headset. I'll disable that until I need it so this is a viable solution.

Also thanks for the advice on the codec. I assumed more compressed data would require less bandwidth and maybe help with the issue. I have already dropped the mic gain to the lowest setting. Helped a little but not entirely. 90% of my calls today had to be cancelled and resumed on regular cell service due to this issue.

I have tried with the echo cancel setting on and off--no difference. I may try without the speakerphone just to see but in the end it won't matter because I won't use an app that can't support the speaker which I use 99% of the time. (I have a truphone account which has good quality but their app doesn't support the speaker so I've given up on them).

I'm sort of lost on what to try next. Using the same VoIP service thru an ATA (HT502) and a polycom speakerphone has no echo issues at all. This tells me the issue is somewhere between the router and my iphone or Softphone.

Problem with Sound

Hi I have problem on version 2.5 with the audio when receive a call I cant hear the person. If a call enter and I can hear the person after close the app and enter push incoming call and accept the call the call dont transfer wait to much to transfer and if transfer cant hear the person also, one time I can hear the person when the call transfer but after hang up that call and try to see if the audio works calling again but with the app open cant hear anything again this is a bug that causing the audio to work and dont work some interference with audio native of the iphone phone app with the Acrobits softphone this happen today october 22 and on the night I cant even connecting always said discovering and wait huge time then offlile and visceversa. It will be great as a 3.0 version that include more faster push notifications and to make multiple account ON SAME TIME not to switch manually on and off. Cause we can use one account for inbound and other account for outbound. Thanks

Weird behavior of ver. 2.5

I just installed v. 2.5 and noticed the following:
1. Sound quality is better than all similar SIP app running on iphone.
2. There is no Transfer button!!! it's very useful to have it in next release.
3. When I dial an external line, the 2nd party hears the Music On Hold; it's like I have put them on hold.
4. The Hold button doesn't work.
5. The Acrobits application shuts down abnormally for no reason; I have to restart it several times to work.

p.s. note that the IP PBX I'm using is Mitel 3300CX that works pretty good with wired and wireless SIP phones.

Thanks for your help

George

When are we going to see calling over wifi? Apple / ATT have been allowing it for awhile now...

I think you meant calls over the GSM network. And actually, we have to wait for Apple. After AT&T announced that they would be allowing VoIP over their GSM network, Apple stated they would be updating their developer agreements. At this point we don't have a timeline from Apple for this; and until then, the current developer agreement does not allow us to make the application work over the GSM network. That said, we have already prepared for this, so as soon as Apple does change the developer agreement, Acrobits Softphone will be working on the GSM network shortly thereafter.

SoftPhone problem - One Way Audio

I have version 2.6 installed on a 3GS iphone.

When I place a call I get the rapid "trying" ringing tone... then silence. The call connects, but I can't tell. Test phone calls to my wife's cell phone reveal that the person I call can hear me, but all I hear on the iphone is silence.

When I receive a call, I get normal push notifications and can answer. The audio is normal for received calls.

I am connected through a Trendnet b/g wifi router. My SIP service is through Gizmo5 and I am using your included default settings for my Gizmo service.

Softphone worked at one point, but now it does not. I can't say when or why it stopped working.

Any suggestions?

I would appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Thx

We'll probably need more information to resolve your issue. Please contact us at support@acrobits.cz.

I am using VoIP.ms as my service provider. Any issues with them for your app? Also, not clear to me if Acrobits has any operational role within the call. I understand I need a VoIP provider but is Acrobits servers involved at all in any way at the beginning, during or at the end of a call? Or are they simply a s/w provider and that's it?

config with talkswitch?

Has anyone had success setting up the Acrobits SIP client as a Talkswitch IP extension? Someone wrote they had done it in their review in the App Store, but I'm not having much luck...

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

We at Acrobits have not tested VoIP.ms ourselves but we have customers that have used them successfully.

As for your second question, Acrobits is just a software provider. The only time our server is involved is when the softphone is closed and you have push notifications turned on. That is due to the way that push notifications work.

We have just had someone successfully set up Acrobits Softphone with Talkswitch. Email us at support@acrobits.cz if you still need assistance.

I can help with brazilian portuguese translation if you like. Contact me if you're still interested.

Thanks!

I am using the Acrobits SIP client with an Asterisk pbx here at work. We do not allow access from outside of the LAN, so I cannot register with your push server. I have been using it with moderate success with Backgrounder, however. The problem is that when Acrobits is active, it takes complete control over the phones system sounds, so that no other programs (IM, email, sms, etc) notification sounds work. Is there anything that can be done about this? Other programs that work in the background don't have this behavior - ie. if Pandora is running in the background I still get notification sounds.

I realize that this is not really a supported use, but it goes a long ways towards making it a fully usable program for me.
