Forgive me if this has been asked already, but I was wondering if it was possible to change the ringer in the app. If not, can we expect that in a future update we will be able to?

Thanks.
Acrobits Softphone does not currently have the option to change the ringtone. But we are adding that feature. It won't be in the next update, but will be in the following one.

I'm trying to get this to work. i've fixed the issues I had with push and when a call comes in, I do get a pop-up giving me the choice to close or answer.
If I choose answer, Softphone launches and takes a few seconds to register to my SIP account but does not pick-up the call & by that time its too late to get the call. Any tips?

Also, now that Edge is supported if I add a dataplan to my 2G, I should be able to use Softphone & push without having to use a voice plan, right?
Does push over data launch Softphone?

You may need to contact us at support@acrobits.cz to do some troubleshooting but let me go over the basics of how the push notifications work. When you close Acrobits Softphone, it registers your account on our push server. When we receive an invite, we forward the information to Apple, who send you a push notification (this normally only takes a couple of seconds, but Apple doesn't guarantee a timeframe). When you receive the push notification and press answer, Acrobits Softphone then opens, registers your account and transfers the call from our push server to your device. So there will always be some delay, meaning that if the caller doesn't wait long enough or your voicemail picks up quickly, you may miss the call. But if this isn't the issue and you're never receiving the call, please contact us, we'll probably need to do some troubleshooting to resolve the issue.

As for your other questions, yes and yes, provided your carrier doesn't block VoIP traffic.

Acrobits Softphone over 3G - Feedback Wanted

We're looking for users to share their experiences using Acrobits Softphone over the 3G or Edge network. Since VoIP over 3G is new on the iPhone, we would like feedback (positive or negative) to help us make using Acrobits Softphone over 3G the best possible experience. Please email us at support@acrobits.cz with any experiences or suggestions you'd like to share. Feel free to leave them here, but please email us as well.

I love this App, but am having a prblem..... here it is:

I have a SIP provider called callwithus.com (btw, a GREAT and VERY cheap providor). It works on my Iphone with all other SIP Apps (Siphone, etc). But it will not work with Acrobits. Here is the problem:

It registers successfully, but will not make calls. I sent the log to callwithus support, and they told me the following:

The phone sends non-standard "Authorization" header which doesn't allow call
go through.

> Authorization: Digest username="933838410",
> realm="sip.callwithus.com", algorithm=MD5,
uri="sip:18005551212@sip.callwithus.com
> ", nonce="4b440a36000009578a015c5ddfe324b8ffa4e1f48b0d1a18",
> response="da5f930e316618d3f623f7721b9c648f"

Any way not to send this "non standard" header? I'm sure if it's a problem here, it will be a problem for other providers as well.

We've updated Acrobits Softphone to deal with this issue and it should now work properly with callwithus.

Hi, I've been testing Softphone on my 2G with Edge as of yesterday.
Here are a few observations. Push works great over Edge so far and I can pick-up incoming calls pretty consistently. The problem though is with call quality. It seems the echo cancellation algorithms are not functionning properly and there is a long 1-1.5 second latency between user exchanges.
Moreover, whatever is said is repeated after the initial delay, making for a rather hard conversation. It may come down to choice of audio codec or maybe Edge is not fast/efficient enough to truly support VOIP. If thats the case, that would be sad.

On the other hand, when I switch to WIFI, the call quality is crystal clear (iLBC?) but I have often problems picking-up incoming calls. I do get the push-not and select answer but then Softphone registers to my SIP account and waits with the seconds being counted without allowing me to answer.
Again, this is not the case over Edge. Thanks for any tips.

I think you've already contacted our support, but if you haven't please contact us at support@acrobits.cz.

But I would like to mention a couple things about the codecs for 3G/Edge. It is important that your VoIP provider support iLBC or GSM if you're going to be using 3G/Edge calling. G.711 requires too much bandwidth to make it practical for calls over 3G/Edge. The good news is that we should be adding G.729 as an in app purchase (since it is expensive to license) within the next few updates. It requires significantly less bandwidth and most VoIP operators support it.

We've also recently added the ability to set separate preferences for Wi-Fi and 3G/Edge calling. So you can set G.711 as the preferred codec for Wi-Fi and set either GSM or iLBC as the preferred codec for 3G/Edge.

Acrobits is Looking for Testimonials and Tutorials.

We at Acrobits would like to add a couple new pages to our website. One for user testimonials and one for user created tutorials.

If you have a testimonial you would like us to use, please email it to us at support@acrobits.cz. But feel free to post it here as well.

We are also looking for links to posts that users have written with instructions on using Acrobits Softphone. For example, instructions on setting up Acrobits Softphone with a particular PBX or VoIP provider. If you have written one or know of any, please post the link here or email it to us at support@acrobits.cz. We know that some PBXs or VoIP providers might have special instructions and we would like to make accessing that information as easy as possible for our users.

I am using the Acrobits SIP client with an Asterisk pbx here at work. We do not allow access from outside of the LAN, so I cannot register with your push server. I have been using it with moderate success with Backgrounder, however. The problem is that when Acrobits is active, it takes complete control over the phones system sounds, so that no other programs (IM, email, sms, etc) notification sounds work. Is there anything that can be done about this? Other programs that work in the background don't have this behavior - ie. if Pandora is running in the background I still get notification sounds.

I realize that this is not really a supported use, but it goes a long ways towards making it a fully usable program for me.

Though Acrobits Softphone is not tested with jailbroken phones, we have been notified of this issue from several users with jailbroken phones and hope to have a solution for our 3.1 release.

I have recently noticed that this behavior is not specific to being jailbroken and having the app run in the background. Even if the app is in the foreground, and is the only app running, I don't get notification sounds for things like Push notifications, SMS, Calendar events, etc. In fact the only sounds I get are incoming calls to acrobits or to the gsm phone.

Could I suggest implementing a user forum? This seems to be an efficient way to provide tutorials, user feedback, and users-helping-other-users....

These issues are related but not exactly the same. It's true that Acrobits Softphone completely takes over the audio on the iPhone, whether the iPhone is jailbroken or not. However, if your phone is not jailbroken, and you turn keep iPhone awake off, it will turn audio back over to the iPhone after 30 seconds. Customers with jailbroken phones report that they still have audio issues even when they do this.

The good news is we are in the process of completely redesigning the audio for Acrobits Softphone. This is one of the issues that we are addressing and we hope the redesign will correct this for users with both the standard iPhone firmware and jailbreaks.

"Unauthorized" next to icon

I have two Gizmo5 accounts and one voip.ms account registered on my acrobits softphone. All accounts had been able to send and receive calls in the past but now my Gizmo accounts have a red phone icon with an 'x' where the two green arrows should be. The Gizmo accounts also have "unauthorized" appearing below the account names.

All accounts show an exclamation mark in the icon when selected as the dial-out account. The strange thing is I can still make calls with both Gizmo accounts but I can't receive calls.

Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

First of all I just want to say what a superb app this is - by far the best SIP client on the iPhone, thank you :)

Generally it works perfectly but I have one rather major issue. If the app is open and I receive an incoming call to my sipgate account everything works as expected. However if I use push to notify me of the incoming call, once the app has loaded the caller is not able to hear me. Then after roughly 10 to 15 seconds the caller is able to hear me but I then can't hear them. After a further 10 or 15 seconds we can both hear each other. This is when my iPhone is logged onto my home Wi-Fi connection.

I've just tried the same thing but using a 3G connection rather than Wi-Fi and everything worked as it should and the caller could hear me straight away. This got me thinking that it could be a problem with my ADSL Wi-Fi router but I've put my iPhone in the DMZ and no luck. Also if that was the case why would the app work fine on Wi-Fi when not using push.

Any ideas?

Has anyone been able to get this to work on AT&T 3G and Broadvoice? If so, what are your settings? I have it working on WiFi with no problem, but can't get it to connect on 3G.

This issue is related to a change that Gizmo5 recently made on their side. We have already submitted an update with a workaround to Apple. We are also in touch with Gizmo5 to resolve the issue.

Another user was able to use broadvoice over 3G using these settings.

username: 10 digit broadvoice telephone number
password: Get this at Broadvoice.com/Account/Show Settings(after adding your iPhone to My Devices under Manage Multi Presence.* Password is listed as auth_password:* 10 digit password (Case Sensitive)
domain: sip.broadvoice.com

advanced settings

auth username: 10 digit broadvoice telephone number

proxy: proxy.nyc.broadvoice.com (from what I understand, there are several proxies that broadvoice uses, but this is the only one that we have confirmation works over 3G)

Leave all the other settings at their default values.
If you're still having issues, please contact us at support@acrobits.cz so we can troubleshoot the issue.*

Hi there,

Wondering if we might see these supported?

We will probably support g722 in a business/deluxe version of Acrobits Softphone. That will probably be out in the next couple of months. We will be adding g729 as an in app purchase to the current version within the next couple of updates.

One quick thing you can try is switching your setting for Discover Global IP (if it's off, turn it on or vice versa) on Acrobits Softphone. If that doesn't resolve it, I think we'll need to do some troubleshooting. Please contact us at support@acrobits.cz if you're still having issues.

I am using the latest version of your app with a generic sip provider (freephoneline). Incoming work okay, however DTMF does not work at all. I cannot dial any extensions what soever. DTMF is set to rfc2833 (which is the setting required by the provider). I've also tried the audio option but no dice either.

Can you tell me if this is a bug with the app or something else?

I have the same problem with mine (provider GlobalPhone). Sound quality seems fine, but the softphone is not passing tones at all.

Hello there,

Could you please tell us whether you are planning another sale (the last one was last year at $2.99 I believe)?

Also checked your website and I think it would help prospective buyers researching which SIP client app to buy if you had a comparison page.

It sounds like you guys have the upper hand on the competition so you should show that off. :)

We don't have any Sales scheduled right now, but if we do have a sale on the softphone, we will post it on our website. Visit www.acrobits.cz and sign up for news.
