Merry Christmas, Acrobits Softphone 4.6 is here!

Our Christmas update, now available on the App Store, contains loads of new features.

  • Encrypted secure calls! We support SRTP/SDES and also the latest ZRTP technology.* SDES is included; ZRTP is free for incoming calls, just purchase the add on to make outbound calls using ZRTP.
  • Improved Google Voice interface! Adding your Google Voice account to Acrobits Softphone is now easier than ever.
  • Call quality indicator, showing the network connection quality in realtime.
  • GSM interruption behavior. Incoming GSM calls have a higher priority on iOS and will interrupt any VoIP calls on the iPhone, but you can now record a message that the other party will hear if your SIP call is interrupted.

* Must be supported by all parties on the call. We will be adding a detailed Knowledgebase article on call encryption in the next few days.

Any reason why only 'Softphone' got updated, but not 'Groundwire'? I thought everything available in Softphone was also included in Groundwire?

We're just waiting for the update to be approved. We usually submit updates for both Clients at the same time. Normally Apple approves them at about the same time. But they are taking a little longer for Groundwire this time. The Groundwire update with these features should be available any day now.

Still no update to Groundwire..

voice problem over 3G

I have an Asterisk server on my router. I set it up for Google Voice. I installed Acrobits Softphone on my iPhone and can make and receive calls over WIFI. When I am using over 3G. I can not hear the other party, but they can hear me.

?/u-Law is next to my sip name during call. When I am using under WiFi there is only u-Law.

What should I do to fix this problem?

thanks

Hi, I'm sorry you're having an issue with the softphone. Please follow the steps in the article below. Even though we already know the issue is exclusive to 3G, please try adding the STUN Server anyway.

there's no doubt that u have best apps in the market, I hope if u could develop an app with recorded feature that would enable us to record call conversation as u did for ur both sip software.

If I understand you correctly, you would like a way to record the native GSM phone calls. Unfortunately, Apple does not allow this. I don't expect they will change this anytime soon.

Voip has been the greatest innovation of this millennium. People have found lot of benefits due to this development. Communication has become very easier due to voip. Voip has been used in mobiles and even in office phone systems, due to this the calling costs for the companies have come down drastically.

Groundwire 1.7, now with SMS Support!

The latest update to Groundwire is now available on the App Store. The latest update includes

-messaging via SIP/SIMPLE, this adds SMS support for providers who support SIMPLE protocol for SMS
-balance and SMS support for Betamax providers (voipcheap, actionvoip, etc.)
-SMS support for Pennytel
-fixed clipboard menu issue (paste function)
-improved Global IP detection
-added hacks section for those who need to make unusual tweaks
-tel: URI scheme support
-ports are now entered using host:port notation

*Softphone users don't worry, SMS support will soon be available in Acrobits Softphone as well.

Acrobits new feature - where?

Love the product. Upgraded to 4.8. Cannot find the new betamax integration for my voipgain account... Where can one find this?

I recently pyrchase the app, and would like to say that it is certainly the best sip app i have used so far. Having some issues with the 3G, but will try your suggestion of STUN server to see if it gives anything better.

I have a question about the interruption of GSM call. Is there way that your app doesn't give exclusive control to incoming GSM Calls? Does Apple allow this? it would be great if user can switch back to softphone while there's an incoming GSM call (ignoing the GSM Call and keep it ringing)

There should be no additional configurations necessary, this is handled by the domain. The balance should show up on the keypad next to the account title and a new SMS tab should appear.

But admittedly, there were several betamax domains that we missed. So if you don't see it, it should be corrected in the next update.

Unfortunately, the iPhone does not give us control over this, GSM calls will always interrupt the softphone call. We do have some limited control over what we do when the call is interrupted. Tap on settings, then preferences, then controls. Tap on 'On GSM Call' to see the options. You can even record a personal message that will play when the GSM call interrupts us.

But I should also mention when you can accept a GSM call and still go back to the softphone call.

The original iPhone and the iPhone 3G will normally be able to decline the GSM call and go back to the softphone call. But the softphone call will be lost if you answer the GSM call.

For the 3GS and iPhone 4, I think you will be able to accept the GSM call and go back to the softphone call.

But if you only have an EDGE connection (I don't think this will come up often for most users), you won't be able to pickup the GSM call and go back to the softphone call no matter which iPhone you have, EDGE just isn't capable of handling voice (GSM call) and data (softphone call) at the same time. You may even lose the softphone call as soon as the GSM call comes in.

How does the SMS SIMPLE protocol work?
I cant seem to get it going with my provider: vif.com
Txs.

First, a couple of notes. SMS SIMPLE is currently only supported in Groundwire. The main reason for this is that we aren't really aware of any normal SIP providers that support this method. We've only seen it supported in PBXs. But if we find out that it is supported by some normal SIP providers, we will consider adding it to the Softphone as well.

Which brings me back to your question. Your SIP provider probably does not support this method SIP/SIMPLE. But a lot of providers do have some API that they provide so third party software can support their SMS (usually through some web service, this is how we added betamax and pennytel). If your SIP provider offers this, ask them to send it to us. As long as it is easily implementable, we will probably add it.

Like I said, your SIP Provider most likely doesn't support this method, but if you have Groundwire, you would turn on messaging through SIP/SIMPLE in the advanced settings of the SIP Account. This will cause the SMS tab to show up on the keypad, but it still won't work if the SIP provider doesn't support it.

Was wondering if something is being worked for video support via H263 ??? I would love to see this feature integrated. Some other softphones already support this, but I dont want to switch just for that feature.. since groundwire has some other solid features. So im just waiting for groundwire team to bring up that feature... :D

Hello, I don't have all the details or a timeframe yet, but we are actually already working on this.
