I also upgraded to Groundwire, and bought the G.729 codec. Actually none of my current providers support G.729, but I figured it'd be useful in the future.
A few observations:
1. I find the colours of the keypad a bit light, the colours of e.g. the GSM & SIP buttons in the SIP Softphone were bolder and more saturated. I've played around with the different options but can't seem to get a dark, bold look.
2. I'm using it with Push Notifications. Like the way the SIP softphone works, it seems to register (or check registration) each time you open the app. That's fine I guess, but when you are answering an incoming call it seems to wait until this registration process has completed before answering, I don't understand why. But note this is not something to specific to Groundwire.
3. The record-all-calls function is nice, I guess I'd never used it on the softphone before. But I think it needs to work differently:
- You should be able to see, play & delete recordings from the iphone itself, not just from a desktop web browser. Ideally you'd have a page in the settings showing them.
- From the web browser interface I can't see any way to delete individual recordings. There needs to be a way to do this, or at least a "delete all recordings" button in the settings.
- I tried to view the recordings in iPhone Safari using
http://127.0.0.1:6051 and sometimes it would show the recordings page, however even when it did you couldn't play any files. It seemed to pass the link onto Quicktime player which opened up but then got a server error.
To be honest for me I don't really see much difference with the original softphone, I won't use transfers, waiting, etc. But I was happy to contribute to the ongoing effort, appreciate the sale price, and hope to see improvements in Groundwire soon.
My main wish is for some way to improve the answering of incoming calls, though I realise a lot is due to limitations imposed by Apple.
