Wow I'm actually surprised. People were saying it was pretty good but damn....there's like no horizontal tearing with fast moving objects or anything!

Want to know how the 3GS video recording holds up in a live music environment? I just recorded my band's guitarist playing live to our song as a backing track along with our custom lighting setup.

I think it holds up rather well. There are some high end issues, but I don't hear very much distortion (if any at all) which is surprising. We had the volume up loud enough on our PA to hurt your ears, and I was standing pretty close to the speakers.

Check it.

I filmed my kids in a park and uploaded the video (it's set to private). I noticed that the quality is very blurry and distorted... yet the video in the post above mine looks significantly better. Why is this? I filmed my video in the sunlight as well, so I would think it would look just as good.

Yes. Your video looks really great. I can't post the one I'm talking about because it's set to private... but the video was filmed in the sun just like yours.. yet it's blurry and there are lots of artifacts.

Oh and by the way... I don't think any videos uploaded from an iPhone are full screen.

Also how come my video doesn't have an HD option. I see some people have an HD option.. One moe thing does anyone know if you can post videos easily to facebook? Like an email to facebook address or something

The iphone's camera output is on par with a value consumer video camera that has a reputation for good picture quality. Infact, the sensor's characteristics closely match the (cheapy) aiptek GVS 1080p camcorder...although that sensor is a 5MP sensor, and the iPhone 3GS features a 3MP sensor. The Aiptek has similar qualities, such as favorable looking noise in low light conditions, pretty good color saturation, etc.

It also appears that the phone doesn't crank the gain up and ridiculously slow down the shutter speed in low light conditions, which is very favorable.

I'd almost goes as far as to say that this phone is a valid replacement of a standard SD video camera that was intended for home use.

Would I compare it to a $600-$1500 (or higher) camcorder, no, it doesnt come close. The color is not even close and the lens is too cheap.

I only get the HD option when i upload using the youtube uploader on the website.
