I only get the HD option when i upload using the youtube uploader on the website.

Wait... how do you do this? Are you saying I can upload the video from my iPhone using the YouTube webpage instead of my phone? How? If this means the videos will be better quality, then I'll jump at it.

Did you upload this from your iphone to youtube? I am trying to figure out why my videos are not getting the "HD" option...

Guys please take a look at this video...

It is the finale of the opening night at the hollywood bowl. John Williams conducting. As you can see it was filmed at night and still is a great quality especially for a phone. The audio is fantastic.

Well my other two iPhone 3GS sample videos do not have the HQ option.

This one does, and I uploaded it to my comp using iPhoto and then I uploaded it to youtube. So it seems that those you upload directly from the phone do not have the HQ option.

+1 this is true.

And that is a fantastic a/v quality demo.

Here's a test video I shot after sundown. The lighting was good and bad in areas, I wanted to give various different options:

I pulled it in to iMovie through iPhoto and did a little editing, thus that's why the HQ option is there. I'll upload more vids from the phone directly soon.

I'm pretty impressed so far!

It would be good to see how it handles in a club... Low light and loud music.

No, I transfered my video to a computer and uploaded it. Otherwise, the iPhone will overcompress it to make it suitable for transfer over the network (GPRS/EDGE/UMTS)

How do you download the iPhone videos to your computer?

The iPhone shows up to a computer as a digital camera. Its no different than when you connect up a digital camera that can take movies. iPhoto will import them on the mac ... and id imagine they'd show up just like a camera would when you connect one to windows.

Okay, those fireworks are amazing!

I'll take one into a dark "ghetto-fabulous" alaska club for you :)

I have been toying with this camera for the last couple days. I've been on the lookout for a very compact flash based cam to carry along with the kids. Basically to catch fun moments to share with family etc. Key elements of scenarios where this matters: no predictability for shots, no reliability of light, no idea that they'll happen ahead of time.

So I had the idea of getting something like a Sony Webbie or similar level of price. I've been buying this range of camera for a while, taking some video and inevitably returning every one, aiptek, samsung, sony, etc. They all do terribly in low light situations. Now, I'm not suggesting that they should look great but wondering why the noise must be so... bright. Greens, reds, etc. why can't it just come out as grain in the image? Well anyway I don't really have these questions by this point, I'd given up my search deciding to just wait for higher end cams to become cheaper.

Anyway after playing with the iPhone 3G S video feature, I'm very pleased to say that the low light performance is better than any of the 200-300 dollar range cameras I tested! Best part is, I didn't know or care about the video feature before deciding to buy this hehe. So now I've always got a suitable video camera with me for recording amusing moments with the family.

Hey guys, I just got back from a baseball game and I tested out the video quality from my iPhone. I transferred the video from my iPhone to my MacBook and then uploaded it to Youtube. It's pretty good quality, especially since I really didn't do very much focusing (as you guys can see).
