Saw the jet black in person today and was not a fan at all. It looks cheap and plasticky, and feels... sticky. The matte black honestly looks far better, and is the one I ended up with. It looks and feels much more elegant; sort of like leather really.

Black is dope. This is the color scheme I've been wishing Apple done long time ago. It looks more professional and slick.

I just got my jet black 7 and I think it looks sexy af....cant believe some people are saying it looks cheap and tacky, honestly it looks so premium to me...

This forum is overrun with people who want those who chose/ordered JB to hate their choice and themselves and it is absolutely one of the strangest things I've ever seen on here.

Finally an honest person Jet Black looks like they asked how can we make Metal Look like Plastic. Besides Jet Black Is Guranteed to have ZERO resale value due to all the Scratches Unless you put it in a case then that makes that person a double fool buying Jet Black and hiding away its looks in a cheap plastic case.
Whatever makes you feel better.

Meh, happens every year. When the gold 5S came out, you had people here coming up with every reason in the world why the phone would suck (the gold would look cheap, it would scratch easily, look gaudy, etc) Same scenario happened in 2014 with 6 series. You had people trying to convince the world that 5.5 was stupid and too big and 4.7 was the perfect size.

I just find it comical really. IMO all the iPhone colors look beautiful

Compared jb and black today in best buy. I'm so glad i got matte black. Jet was really cool but it was covered in fingerprints and scratches it would have driven me nuts. Plus... like i said the shiny surface doesnt match ios 7+

OP has right to call it ugly. I personally think every single option of the Note7 from blue coral, gold, silver, and black looks better than nearly every color option of the 7+. I will say 7+ because the iPhone 7 is like the Galaxy S7 to its edge variant. An iPhone 7 still stuck in 2012 flagship resolution is laughable. That's nearly 60% of ugly from the iPhone 7+. Okay, 80% if jet black is included. Crap design to me. Matte black is only putting lipstick on a pig.

But I don't think the OP is correct saying a 90's design. The jet black looks like it came from 2008 with the 3G, 2013 with 5c, or Xiaomi Mi 5 now. Or any Samsung prior to 2015. The 90's gadgets were built like tanks. I remember owning a Motorola pager. I dropped it several times and not a single scratch. StarTAC were also rugged. Old school Game Boys and Game Gears were bricks but solid bricks. Nintendo 64 was built like a rock.

I love 90's durability. Stuff weren't always made in China. They actually were made in USA, Japan, and Finland. Don't diss the 90's. Build quality isn't as strong as it used to be even if today's designs are prettier.

What ironic is even you cover the Jet Black with a case trading all the experience with being able to keep it pristine, the Jet Black still likely will get scratched

What happens if it does? Does the world stop spinning? Are you gonna lose sleep if it does get a scratch? Will everyone who owns a JB need a counselling advisor? Will Tim Cook ring me personally and apologise?

The only people that seem to care are the ones that have gone for matte, figures. Go live your life and I'm sure you won't care about Jet Black iPhones in another 2 or 3 weeks.

That's what you said, I didn't.

And of course, it's the ones who switched to matte spoke up. But the truth is everyone cares about the Jet Black getting scratches. That's why all reviews mention it. Even Apple cares about it since they mentioned it on their website.

Apple mention it so that the people that create threads like this are fully informed so that they don't start to cry and scream that their iPhone has :

1) Lost all resale value, yup worthless after a scratch.

2) Become the laughing stock of the neighbourhood.

3) Meant they can't possibly show their face out of ridicule idiocy for buying a JB iPhone at the local mall.

It's a bold claim 'all' as I bet the larger majority don't care, and in the grand scheme of things on this floating cosmic rock that were all on, no one should either.

Buy iPhone, enjoy iPhone.

The jet black wasn't appealing to me but I've never seen it in person so I won't call it ugly. Now the regular black...that thing is sexy!

After seeing multiple unboxing photos and videos, you know the photos and videos that 'normal' people shoot, not Apple with their $100000000 lighting setup and gear, I came to realize that I don't like Jet Black anymore. In fact, it looks kinda ugly, like "phone from the 90's" kinda ugly. Looks nowhere near as good as the black iPhone 4. Just my two cents.

Hope you liked my cool story.

Not really cool at all. This is what happens when we, as consumers, rush into buying a product. Visit stores several times, hold and handle the product you think you want, play with them and take the opportunity to look at someone using one in the wild. After due consideration (it is a several hundred dollar transaction) go buy what you really want and be satisfied. And if it's still wrong? Well maybe you didn't really want it in the first place.

Besides Jet Black Is Guranteed to have ZERO resale value due to all the Scratches...

Living in the past is a terrible thing. In 12 months I'll throw my JB7+ at AT&T and tell them to give me a new iPhone 8 and they'll take it even if it is all scratched to **** without even blinking.

I could care less about Resale. It's going back to att when the next one comes out.

Bingo!!!!

Both blacks are nice; I just preferred matte to jet! I'd pick jet in a heartbeat if we did'nt get the matte:)

Probably the same way I did. My 6 was paid for and in excellent condition. I buy mine on Verizons installment plan and they are crediting it back $649.99 spread over the period I'm paying. I keep my phones for 2 years ago my new 256GB black 7 costs me around $200when all is said and done.

Exactly. The 256 gb plus I ordered will cost me $13/mo for 24 months.

I saw both the Matte and Jet Black yesterday and I think they both look really great but the Jet Black looks absolutely incredible like a polished jewel. For sure it'll get scratched if you don't put a case on it but remember there are ultra thin clear cases available. Some as thin as 0.35mm - Barely even visible and completely clear.

That kind of case would protect the finish while still allowing you to see and enjoy the jet black shine.

For people who 100% do not want to put any case even one so thin it's practically invisible but still don't want to risk scratching for sure get the Matte Black it still looks great, just not as great in my opinion.

I was thinking JB just because it looks like seamless glass.....in pictures though i was sure. Plus as a car guy, nothing metal and shiny stays metal and shiny. Hints why us autox'rs or offroaders like stuff that is a flat color (plastidip is awesome btw) that we can use on our cars for a good look that doesn't pick up cone guts when you swipe them racing and you don't see small scratches from sliding off course and mowing the lawn. Anyway I digress, the matte black looked great and I like matte so I went with it and love it on the iPhone. I paired it with a white silicon case only because I haven't decided on AC+ yet since the price went up again to 129 this year and I change phones every year. With the case and matte black it looks like a stormtrooper phone.

sidenote: I also got a black SS with link of the AW2 and I love it but I do slightly miss the matte finish of the sport haha! I just really want the link and really want the link to be exactly like apples and match. Was thinking of the edition with a black link (even though the edition isn't matte) but that is just to much for a computer based watch imo. So I think I am stuck paying over a g for a really nice watch that isn't matte but the upside is I now have the link so in 2-3 years I can get the new watch and have a jeweler polish up the link bracelet and use it for the next watch.

Got my Jet Black yesterday. This phone looks amazing but yeah, covered in fingerprints within a minute, but I can't say I didn't expect that. I love the look of the phone though. I've been hoping for something like this since I got the Space Black steel Watch. I do wish they did the DLC coating though. It is much more durable based on scratch test videos I've seen of Jet Black.

It was very grippy feeling out of the box, but after a few minutes of holding it, the natural oils in your skin make it VERY slippery. I'm gonna try to find a clear skin for the back, like zagg invisible shield. I use that on my MacBook and it looks great and adds much more grip.

What if he puts it in a expensive leather case..
