What if we don't drop our phones?

Naked it is then. I guess you also don't use your phone extensively either. I have a case and a screen protector and without any drops, these things take a beating...

I use it everyday, everywhere and one handed. Oh and I have plus model which I can barely hold with one hand :) You just have to be careful with things.

I'm with you. Though I'm already resigned to the fact that this one may show more scratches under direct light than in the past.

It may show more scratches than the more scratch-resistant iPhone 5s, 6 and 6s series, but not necessarily the glossy "jet black" iPhone 3G/3GS or even the black iPhone 4/4s. People are just no longer used to their iPhones showing much "wear and tear" since probably the Black and Slate iPhone 5, hence the disclaimer by Apple as a CYA thing.

i went yesterday to check the 7 plus jet black at the apple store they don't even have that size color in display. so i looked at the regular 7 jet black and i loved it! way better build quality that i thought doesn't look cheap at all! love it! yes its black very black! but love how they engraved the iPhone wording and all that at the bottom. can't wait until monday when i get mine!

How dumb/careless you have to be to put your phone in your pockets with coins or keys? Why would you slide your phone across the table? Pick up the damn thing!

Oh, and these scratch 'tests'...

"Hmm I wonder if it will scratch if I pick up my knife and drag the blade across the back of the phone.." Who the hell does that?

Life happens. I've accidentally put my phone and keys in the same pocket before. I've accidentally bumped my phone and sent it sliding a few inches across the table. Life happens.

I was thinking the same, these scratch tests would be a lot more useful if it was representative of real life. For example placing the phone down on a table, sticking it into pockets, perhaps dropping it on a table from 1 inch above the surface, sticking it in a pocket with some coins like you might do by mistake before fishing it back out etc

I'd also like them to put cases on and off the phone a few times to test if even that will scratch it etc - Not taking a razer blade to the phone or dragging it over a tables surface like sandpaper lol or heck even using sandpaper on them!

What happens if it does? Does the world stop spinning? Are you gonna lose sleep if it does get a scratch? Will everyone who owns a JB need a counselling advisor? Will Tim Cook ring me personally and apologise?
No, but if you use it for trade-in value, and they knock it out of the running for being able to be traded in then it will be earth shattering to some people. ;)

I thought I wanted jet black at first because I miss how my 3G and 4 looked, but now I'm realizing that while I do still like the glossy look, it looks weird to me without the metallic border.

Oh no! I scratched my jet black iPhone, I hate my life. I can't believe this happened. I seriously don't know how I'll ever get over this........:D:D:D:D
I can't believe all the belly aching I'm hearing about fingerprints and scratches. We're people complaining this much with the iPhone 3G/3GS/4/4S?

Got my matte black 7+ today, wen to Apple Store and checked out the jet black. I will say, it does have a sort of plasticy look to it, like the iPhone 3G back. And it was super greasy, this was at about 11:30am so the store was only open a few hours and it looked terrible with all the marks and greasy finger smudges. And also was surprised this morning when I got my matte black that it was actually black. Looked kinda dark grayish in pics and videos.

But I will say, the jet black looks almost like an entirely new design in comparison to the others. I wonder if the glossy look was their original plan then they scrapped it due to the grease/scratches. I am sure the JB looks amazing when untouched too. Probably is more exciting for 6S+ owners, in terms of that new phone excitement than the more traditional matte finishes.

Definitely don't regret my choice, but wanted to give my unbiased opinion. I hate fanboys/fangirls and feel I'm fairly subjective on matters such as this.

But I will say, the jet black looks almost like an entirely new design in comparison to the others.

This!

I looked in store today and while the JB is nice I still prefer my matte black, the in store one had zero scratches on it btw.

Life happens. I've accidentally put my phone and keys in the same pocket before.
Same here, in addition I've inadvertently clipped my Benchmark knife into the pocket with my phone after using the knife.

I guess it really depends on if you consider your phone a tool or a fashion accessory.
For me, it's a tool and my only real requirement was that it NOT have a white faceplate.
I could have gone with either one as I always put a case on mine and keep them for 2 years (I don't have that "apple urge" to upgrade when every new one comes out).

I considered the jet black and the black but ultimately got the Rose gold because my watch is Rose gold.
I saw the jet black at the store and it wasn't for me.

Having the jet black you have to baby it a lot more than you do with some of the other colors. So be very careful, put a case on it, and go on with life. Personally, I do not like scratches. So I am very careful with my expensive phones.

That's what I love about the look of Jet Black. It looks completely seamless and monolithic in design.

Unless you have suction cups on your fingers or wear the phone around your neck, in the 365 days between model years, you will drop the phone.

Gravity rules us all.

So people drop their newborn babies on a regular basis because "gravity rules us all?"

Naked since 2007 and it flew out of my hands only twice. It's actually an acquired skill and you eventually get used to holding it more securely without thinking. On the other hand, my wife drops her iPhone all the time but it's in a case. Not everyone is the same.

Really? You're comparing a child you hold in both arms wrapped in swaddling and blankets to a phone with a slick surface? This is the most nonsensical comparison ever. But yes people do drop babies. Even nurses in hospitals.

But yeah. Phones drop. That simple. Now if you want to deny the existence of gravity then there are a whole other set of issues.

I wished we can live like the 90's again when designs didn't matter as much. I remember thinking how ugly the Super NES was as a kid and that's probably the best console Nintendo has ever made. I would use a Game Boy, Game Gear, and Sony Walkman and not care what it looked like. Nintendo is guilty with some of the ugliest industrial designs ever. And those ugly designs like the toaster-style NES are some of the best gaming machines ever! Me wants that miniature one of it!

Ah, nostalgia! ;)

I didn't think the PS2 phat design was all that either. Looks better vertically but ugly horizontally. The slim PS2 looked better. But I really don't care but to play games which is why when people said the PS4 slim is ugly, I scoffed. So we now buy if it is a pretty box? My favorite library acame from the PS1 era. But since PS1 games can be played with PS2, I would rather be stuck with PS2. I was a Dreamcast fan in the early 2000's, but PS2 surpassed it lasting 11 years at retail. Nintendo GameCube was a lunchbox design but was highly underrated.

Now physical appearance is being differentiated and judged by the backside of phones! What a concept! The backside where we rarely look at. Jet black and matte black look nearly identical to the iPhone 6 series in space gray. We now live in an era where we are OCD and superficial at a side we will rarely look at. Reminds me of the gaming graphics whores who love great graphics but the games have such boring gameplay. Enjoy your iPhone for what it is and not for what it looks like.

The new side of marketing design...

Never ever dropped my iPhones in seven years. Not. even. once.

Maybe you just need to be a little bit more careful...

I drop my phones. I don't claim to have amazing grasping powers to keep my phones in my hands and never have an accident. I live in the real world with kids and dogs and horses and I run to catch trains and I run down stairs.
So I buy cases that I use depending on the activity. Some people use cases. To call people who choose to protect their devices fools is ridiculous. If I'm running after a toddler with a dog running along because he thinks it's a game, chances are, something will get dropped. In the case of my phones I protect them. Otterbox for the stables, Sonix for every day, Incipio or Speck for dog training activities and trials.

I don't live in a carpeted cushioned world. I don't claim super natural phone holding powers. I understand I live where things fall. To claim otherwise is silly.

And so do I. Still did not drop any of my expensive gadgets even once.

If you're prone to dropping things, get a case. No-brainer. But claiming that everybody readily lets their gadget go on a date with the floor, the toilet or anything else which could cause harm still doesn't reflect reality at all. Has nothing to do with gravity but rather with how clumsy one is.

So what? I don't care for my phone so the next guy can have a clean phone. That's like not driving your sports car like a manic so the next owner has a new car. That's like not ****ing your girlfriend so the next guy has a fresh girlfriend. Sorry I went too far
I am late to the game on this post, but thank you for making my Sunday :D:D:D:D:D I'm rollin!!!!
[doublepost=1474203351][/doublepost]I am not trying to rag on the phone because I know so many are excited to get their jet black. I saw it last night and for me personally, just me, it looked like plastic. It was covered in fingerprints and had a different feel to it that put me off. Hopefully those looking forward to it love it. You deserve that much for what we pay.
