I just got off the phone with support and they are NOW saying that I have to wait another 24 hours for a serial number. This is ridiculous
Hrmmm. I think I'll wait until I can buy a boxed product from the Apple Store in the mall.

I'm already resigned to being screwed out of upgrade pricing, just like I was when I upgraded from version 2 to 3, so it's not like there's anything to be gained from ordering directly from the Adobe web site.

Channel Mixer ?

Just spent 5 minutes looking through the Adobe blurb for Elements 6, but can't find the answer to this. Anyone know if Elements 6 has a channel mixer ?

Thanks.

I pre-ordered on Feb. 8th and I was able to download mine this morning and I also have the serial number. It's funny because I purchased the UPGRADE because I had PSE4 but, I did NOT have it installed and I haven't had it installed for a while 'cause I wiped my hard drive a few months ago, but yet it didn't even ask me for any previous serial numbers... hmm... looks like anyone who wants to buy the upgrade and get the upgrade and install a brand new full working version of PSE6 without ever owning a previous version.

Just downloaded it. Works great. Nice job Adobe. Only 1 Problem, no compatibility with iPhoto. But hopefully will be fixed with an update.

Was going to get the download, then noticed it was MORE expensive than the dead tree/non-biodegradable shipped version.

Does that bit of bandwidth really cost more than solids, production and shipping? Not convinced. Adobe is penny pinching again

Yeah, that's strange.

UK prices:

download - £59.29
ship a box etc - £57.58

This is Adobe (and Apple do it too) hosting their EU download servers in Dublin, Ireland (not Dublin, California) where VAT is 21% (IIRC). You pay the rate of VAT in the country where the download is sourced.

Read more here" (I thought I read about this recently on the BBC but I can't find the article ATM).

I have an ancient PSE 2 for windows from before my switch to mac. I've been waiting for PSE 6 for mac for some time, from what I can work out I should still be able to buy the upgrade even if my last PSE is old and on a different platform, is this correct?

Universal Binary! That's quite an accomplishment.

I wonder if this app works just as well as my copy of Fireworks. That one stopped working last week because the license suddenly became invalid. Mind you, I purchased the app and have never, ever given the serial away. (I don't think that's even possible with product activation)

So thanks Adobe for pissing off a paying customer.

I guess this means PSE also requires using an ill-conceived activation scheme?

Is this only checking the serial numbers with a central database for validity or does it also feel free to spy on you, give you trouble if you upgrade your Mac, and report back to Adobe HQ every now and then?

Can somebody please elaborate on this?

One feature I'm interested in is the "group shot." Does anyone know if Photoshop can do anything similar (as easily...)? If so, how?

And if not, is there going to be a trial version out anytime soon?

How so? Right now, I have iPhoto configured to use Elements 3 as its external editor. Does this no longer work?

Or are you expecting some higher level of integration?

Aside from the issues that some people appear to be having with downloading PSE6, are there any disadvantages to purchasing the download version over the boxed version?

If I buy the download, and upgrade my mac in 6 months, will I be able to install it on the new machine without buying it again? Would I be able to do this with the boxed version?

Thanks!

I didn't have any problems installing my download copy of PSE4 on my iMac and on my Macbook. I don't know if it's changed for version 6 though.

Downloaded last night. I purchased the upgrade as I had PE4, but I never re-installed PE4 after I got my iMac. Strange that it did not ask for me PE4 serial number and just installed with the PE6 serial number

So far so good. I really like Bridge CS3 that comes with PhotoShop Elements. I never need something fancy as Lightroom or Aperture, so Bridge will work just fine. :D

So, to install PSE on a new machine, after buying the download version and installing it on your old machine, do you re-download it and install using the original serial number?

Download

Basically, yes, except that I kept a copy of the original download on my backup external drive because I wasn't sure whether Adobe allowed you to keep downloading new copies.

After some playing with PSE6 it does seem a very nice upgrade. I wish Adobe would support Mac OS X window management instead of implementing their own, Cmd-` still doesn't switch between open images.

Works Fine

That still works fine, I think virtually any editor that can open a JPG can integrate with iPhoto like that.

Damn, I pre-ordered Jan 11 & I still can't download it...no download link on my account/order page...

Yep, that was my experience as well. I was expecting to at least have to enter my serial number from Elements 4, but it didn't ask for it. I installed Elements 6 on my MacBook, which has never had Elements 4 because I didn't want to bother with the performance hit from Rosetta. Only my old G4 ever had Elements 4 installed.

Regarding the comment about iPhoto - it works just fine as an external editor for iPhoto '06 (never got around to buying '08). I have iPhoto set to send RAW images to the external editor, and now using Elements to do more fine-grained adjustment of the RAW images. And as a bonus, it works much better than Elements 4 did! One of my biggest pet peeves about Elements 4 was that you'd adjust the image to your liking in the RAW import window, then it would end up appearing more orange/red when it actually got into the editing window. Really annoying! Elements 6 seems to have fixed that.

I pre-ordered the upgrade version on 07/02/08, and there's no download link for me either. Although I seem to remember the download option either not being available when i ordered, or being more expensive…

The order status page says that the expected arrival date (for my boxed copy) is 28/03/08…

Nice to see the UK isn't getting totally hosed on the price of this the way Adobe normally do, it's only $10 more before tax here at the current exchange rates.

Compare that to Photoshop CS3: In the US, $649. In the UK it is the equivalent of $970, again before adding on the UKs 17.5% sales tax which makes the grand total an equivalent of $1140

And no, they won't let you buy it from the US store.

wow 17.5% sales tax your government is robbing you. Socialism ftl

i can't seem to find where to download this. when i go to the download section all it has is pse6 for windows. i can buy the software for mac but i just want download it and not worry about having it shipped.

I ended up calling Adobe support yesterday & was advised my install disc had shipped 2/24/08.. My order page, of course, did NOT show that it had shipped, and I would've had no idea unless I called b/c I never got a shipping notice email either. Anyhow, the rep gave me my FedEx tracking # & it is scheduled to be delivered today.
