That still works fine, I think virtually any editor that can open a JPG can integrate with iPhoto like that.
That's what I would also think. One poster here made a general statement that there isn't any iPhoto integration, and I'm wondering what he was expecting. I don't think any release of Photoshop has ever integrated with iPhoto beyond use as an external editor.

I made a replacement splash screen for Elements 6. I hate the circle... what the heck where they thinking???

User Guide

Does the boxed version come with the User's Guide? I started to purchase the download and was asked if I wanted to purchase the user's guide for $20. If it comes with the boxed version perhaps that's a reason to go with the boxed version. I am also interested in buying the "Missing Manual" book so would that be my best bet?

Are the serial number problems with downloads fixed? I may want to get this up and running tomorrow via download once I decide about the manual.

Good night all.

mine came, won't install

I received my package today. I insert the disc, but nothing happens. The window that opens has the read me and folders listing different languages. Within those folders are pdf's of the user guide. There's a folder called "Photoshop Elements" but nothing in there looks useful. The "instructions" for installation say to insert the disc and follow the on-screen instructions, which never show up. No auto-installer starts up.

Anyone have any thoughts?

1. Insert CD
2. Open CD icon on the Desktop
3. Double-click "Adobe Photoshop Elements 6"
4. Double-click "Setup"
5. Follow the on-screen instructions

You seriously couldn't find that... or do you have a different disc?

Yep, found that. Double-clicked it, and it told me that it couldn't proceed because it encountered an error. And yes, I'm using an Admin. account. Anyway, tried it again, since it's obviously the way that you got it to work, and this time it told me it couldn't proceed because certain apps were open (but at least it gave me a real reason this time).

I assume when I quit those apps (Safari being one of them) it will work.

I have to say, though, that this is a sad form of an installation. When directed to "follow the on screen instructions," I expect to see some on-screen instructions. I don't expect I'll have to go looking in a folder. Any other os X installer either has you drag to the apps folder or double-click an installer that's presented on the window the disc opens to (as I'm sure you know). The read me doesn't clarify where the installer is or that it doesn't even contain the word "install" in its name.

Anyway, thanks for directing me back to what I had already tried. I appreciate the help, even with the sarcasm that came with it.

I agree with you. The installer should be at the root level of the disc, not inside a folder and it should be labled as "Install Adobe Photoshop Elements". It's sad how lazy and un-Mac-like Adobe has become lately. I 100% agree with you on that, but it still wasn't that hard to figure out and I didn't know that you tried Setup and got an error. You should have explained that and I wouldn't have been sarcastic... Sorry.

You're absolutely right. Thanks again for the help.

As a side note, I had the disc inserted on my Power Mac (G5) in the basement and accessed the disc (using the app they create for the MacBook Air, I guess) from my MacBook Pro upstairs and was able to install it on the MBP through the wireless network. Pretty cool.

I'd like to download it as well, but I'd like that User's Guide and I don't want to pay $20 for it. Has anyone gotten their hands on the boxed version? Is the User's Guide in it?

Do the retail Apple Stores have the boxed version yet? Anyone seen it at any local stores yet?

update: You can download the User Guide from Adobe here: http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/photoshop_elements/ . I don't need a printed copy, the .pdf is fine for me.

User's guide is on the disc as a .pdf. There is a printed "Getting Started" guide in the box that looks like the first chapter of the full User's Guide.

So you replaced the Blue circle with this Blue square?

Yes, I hate the look of a circle on a splash screen... it just looks weird to me. I made this splash screen in order to keep the same Adobe Appearance and modeled it after the pro Adobe Photoshop CS3... it's not too bad now.
