Adorama Black Friday MBP Sale Backorder Thread

I ordered the i7, 32gb, 1tb, Vega 20 for $3724 on the 23rd. Like you, after a couple of calls still no ETA. The website said usually 7-10 business days. On a side note maybe I should have got the i9! The customer service rep was vague.

People ordering directly from apple too are backordered through mid December.

No eta other than the rep said I should get my tracking by Friday. Doubt it though.

Oh boy my older mid-2012 MacBook Pro I was using as a backup just crapped out on me today! A problem on one of the RAM banks which is soldered on, wont boot up at all now. That's two Macs that have died on me this month. My Adorama rep won't have any sympathy for me I bet!

I ordered the new MacBook Pro from Adorama with a slight discount on AppleCare. I noticed they charged my credit card for the AppleCare, but not the MBP.

Yes, they did. Haha. Sounds like me. My built gaming system I built in March, and upgraded the CPU in to the i9-9900k 2 weeks ago, died two days ago on me. It was either the cpu or the board, but per what I read, pretty sure it was the cpu as 3 other people on Reddit had the same issue. I returned the cpu to newegg, and returned the board to amazon, and sold everything else. I am computer less except for my phone, and now using the old 2009 MBP 15" with Mojave on it. It actually works pretty well, but it gets bogged down real easy. Has my SSD in it for now. lol

Yea, apple care was done first on mine, then 1-2 days later, the MBP got put on once they ordered it from Apple and put it into dropship.

So they probably have not ordered mine from Apple yet as my card has not been charged for the MBP. As my desktop died as well I probably should now use the new MacBook Pro as a replacement for that and get an iPad Pro for real mobility.

Btw they called me to verify I did place the order before doing it. Not sure if you got any calls that you didn’t recognize but keep an eye out. Came from a 1-700 only showing as the number.

Has anyone heard anything? I am seriously considering just canceling the order and getting it from Apple. They show the below...it's tempting.

It may have been a good deal, but I won't do business with them again.

I ordered my i9/32GB/2TB/Vega 20 MBP 15" on 11/22 (Thanksgiving Day) and just got a DHL tracking number from Adorama via their online chat. Saved $200 versus Apple's educational pricing after taxes. Adorama charged my credit card on 11/23 and sent an e-mail that it was being drop shipped from the manufacturer, but I never got tracking via e-mail. That said, it didn't leave Shanghai until today. Hopefully, it's not headed to Anchorage.

I can't seem to get their live chat open. It never wants to open when I try. And they haven't done anything yet with my order. So I have no idea what direction its going to go. At least with Apple, I can cancel/return it if needed.
 
I placed my order on the 23rd. I have called Adorama a couple of times but they keep saying the manufacturer has not given any eta. Their customer service reps are so vague and almost robotic! Also emailed adorama but have had no reply. I just threatened to cancel my order and still no response.

I ordered on the 23rd and I have heard nothing from Adorama. I have called twice and been fobbed off, emailed twice and NO response. Not sure why I paid to be a VIP360 member because their customer service on this order has been rubbish! If it was not for some products they have like the Godox / Flashpoint / Glow products I wouldn't use them at all. If it was not for the deal I got on Good Friday I would have gone through Apple or B&H. Maybe I should have gone through Apple and absorb the tax.

For me, paying sales tax is a small price to pay for peace of mind and a bulletproof return policy. That's why I order from Apple. (As an added benefit, I can get the educational discount without jumping through any hoops.) I just appreciate this level of security for purchases of big items.

Exact reason why I went with Apple instead of B&H or Adorama. If anything, B&H's reputation is above and beyond Adorama's.

Yeah you are probably right on this. It has not been all bad with adorama in the past even on some expensive gear I have purchased through them. I wonder if it is worth canceling my order (I did get $250 off the price with them) and then reorder via Apple. It would mean adding on about $750 to the cost and I am not sure if I would get it sooner now anyway.

Yeah, I've purchased a crap load from BH but never from Adorama. This was my first from them. Only reason I went with them was because of the deal. :(

Oh well, both are ordered both ways, since it seems Adorama hasn't canceled my order yet...

I ordered from B&H on Monday, I paid 1 day overnight shipping. They charged CC right away. By Friday they had not shipped an in stock order. Calling their support is worthless and aggravating. Lies and more lies.
Walked into apple and got a better configuration. Last time I order anything from BH

Now if I can just get my order canceled and card refunded, I'd be happier. Been 24 hours, and still not done. Yep, they are lying to me yet again.
 
For cameras, photo and video gear nobody seems to get to the prices of The Gang of Two (Adorama and B&H). B&H I find better than Adorama on most issues. I try to use my local guys as much as possible but quite often they just don't have the stock. For lighting gear I now use the Godox line and Adorama is the only dealer with some sort of support stateside. I was previously all Profoto which has great support world wide. I have been tempted to go back but the Godox prices are so good and perform 90-95% as well as Profoto. With the cost difference I can spend more on other gear like expensive MacBooks just from now on I am ordering direct from Apple and just pay the tax. I fell for the deal ads by the likes of Apple insider and some YouTube folks who I bet get a kick back from Adorama.
 
Ultimately, it's just hard to do business with a retailer with a crap/non-existent return policy, which is both B&H and Adorama, which is sort of ridiculous considering they are major players, and not little mom n pop shops.
 
Adorama have not charged my card for the MacBook Pro but they have charged the AppleCare. An i9, 32gb, Vega 20, 1tb is available today at my Apple Store in MA. Driving there now to get it and cancel my order with adorama, screw them. I will pay more as it's an i9 not an i7, plus I won't get the apple insider Black Friday discount of $225 and will pay state tax.

Adorama i7 price: $3724.00
AppleCare: $349.00
Total: $4073.00

Apple i9 price: $4249.00
AppleCare: $379.00
Sub Total: $4628
tax: $289.25
Total: 4,917.25

Difference is $844.25

Is it worth it?

Benefits: I get it today and can work on it today, faster CPU, full Apple return policy, maybe better AppleCare, I don't give any money to Adorama

Cons: extra cost to me, I give even more money to Apple and the state, and don't get the extra lens I wanted.

PS can I keep the AppleCare from Adorama?
