I have never been able to get this to work and both my HomePods are running 16.2 - I get the option to update but it just says I still need to update my HomePods

Edit: Valkraiders solution works!!

Just rebooted all AppleTVs and Homepods plus a computer and two iPhones. I can invite the other users to the home and they can accept, but they still don't see the accessories in the home app no matter what I try.

Are yours in a stereo pair? If so, unpair them & then check separately. Both my HomePods and mini's had this issue & I was able to get past it by unpairing, updating, then repairing.

So I didn't even know this option was there until I read this thread - as far I can remember I was not prompted.

Does anyone know if this will impact non-Apple smart plugs that I have (Wemo and Meross)?

Didn’t work for me. I’m away from home now and it’s still showing email addresses. What’s odd is I could swear it showed names when I was at home.

It was still showing my email address when I got home, but it seems to be a cosmetic issue. Personal requests work, so I guess I’ll just wait for Apple to fix this.

It should not really impact any of the devices or accessories. The changes are only to HomeKit itself.

My understanding:

This architecture change is only to how Apple queries and tracks devices.

Before the HomeKit architecture “upgrade” - every time you open the Home app, the app would query each and every device on your HomeKit network for a status. Every interaction with anything in the Home app would cause a re-querying.

What the upgrade essentially does is changes that model.

Now one of your hubs will keep track of the status of the devices. Your Home app will only ever need to communicate with a hub.

Reduces network chatter a ton, reduces need for devices to wake up and respond all the time, probably saves energy in the process, and makes everything respond much quicker.

I am sure there are other changes or tweaks as well, but it is this major fundamental one which makes it not backwards compatible.

But the upgrade process is clearly buggy.

Now that it is working correctly for us though, things are - what is the word we use here in the Apple fanboy world? Oh yeah. Things are “snappier”.

:)

Thanks for the great response! I upgraded and aside from one “problem child” all went smoothly, and all the devices are up and running again.

Different but related problem.

Now invites to my spouse for the home are not working.

Yes - they are on 16.2 & 13.1 for all their devices.

Similar to me, the app wouldn’t open the home until they removed the old homes as well.

So they did, and it still wouldn’t let them in.

They remove our current home and I re-invite them and the invite comes through, they accept and still nothing. Can’t see the home at all from their devices.

Ugh, this has not been a smooth transition at all, and we are Apple fanboys. I can’t imagine anyone critical of Apple trying to go through this process.

I have a lot of damn money sunk in HomeKit devices. ;)
Same problem, have you found a solution? Tried some of the solutions listed in the beginning of the forum, but did not work. Family still not seeing the home.

Glad I saw this thread. So should I stay away from 16.2 entirely or is it safe to update to 16.2 and not do the Home update?

After the 16.2 updates, I still had control of Home on all my devices exactly as it has been (did not notice a change) . . . bit the eager bullet and did the 'Home Update', and then I only lost Home control from a few comps that are not able to update to Ventura.

My partner and I are having an issue not posted here yet. We've updated all our devices (2 Apple TVs, 2 HomePods, 2 HomePod Minis, 2 iPhone 13 Pros, 2 iPad Pros, an M1 iMac, an M1 MacBook Air, and 2 Series 6 Apple Watches), and the Home app keeps telling me (the admin) that my watch still needs to be updated, and that my partner has device(s) that still need to be updated. That's not true, and I suspect the "device" of my partner that the Home app doesn't think is updated is his watch, as well.

We've done all the things (force quitting the Home app, rebooting everything, rebooting our HomePods, and our AppleTVs, etc.) and no matter what, since last night, the Home app keeps erroneously telling us my watch and likely my partner's watch aren't fully updated. I'm not proceeding with the update, because I'm pretty sure we'll end up with similar issues to the others shared here. Is anyone else having this issue of the Home app being unable to tell that all devices--or all watches--are fully updated? And if so, have you found a workaround?

I had the same issue. It kept saying my Series 7 Apple Watch wasn’t updated. I rebooted everything multiple times with no luck. I eventually got impatient and proceeded with the update anyway since I knew the watch was indeed updated. Everything works fine, even from the watch.

What solution was that?

There is a downside to this. It seems like the Home Hubs are now required since when I unplugged all of them I couldn’t control anything in the Home app.

I’m sure that’s not the case since there must be some way to use Home without a hub, but it might require actually removing all hubs from your account for that to be the case.

Read your post and had to try it out for myself. I only have an LED light strip (Bluetooth), and Wemo smart plug (Wi-Fi), and both still worked after I unplugged my hub (HomePod mini). I did have to wait until the Home app detected that my hub wasn't connected anymore though.

Was able todo the "upgrade" in 3 different "Homes" (House, Cottage and Cottage Beach House, all on different Networks) specifically drove out today to the cottage todo it (I have 10 Apple TV's and 13 HomePod Minis, so whenever there is a update its a process lol). Everything upgraded fine but ran into some issues with HomeKit sharing with other Family sharing members so I removed them for now (They lost access to the Home but they were on 16.2, will send them new invites in a few days/week once everything settles down). One major issue I had is all my Arlo camera's stopped working in the Home app after the "upgrade". Not a big deal as the Arlo camera's use their own App for recordings and only shows a Live feed in the Home app so I just removed them from HomeKit for now and requested Arlo to reset my HomeKit token. I have noticed after the initial upgrade to 16.2 The Home app was snappier yesterday but after the "upgrade" today things have slowed down how it was before 16.2. SO MEH.

Hardware I have:
iKea Tardfri for blinds (working)
Arlo Camera's (Not working)
Logitech Wired Circle Doorbell (Working but can't share/save videos into Photos from the HomeKit secure video, hangs on when you tap next)
Meross for wall plugs ins/Outdoor Plug ins (Working)
Lutron light switches (working)
LG TV (None are working)
Schledge Locks (4/5 are working)

Solved as well! I restarted my 4 Apple TV's and 4 HomePods and then restarted both of our phones, then she showed up on my account and just had to choose my Home on the app on her phone. Thanks to all the great suggestions everyone!

Yep, rebooting the 6 HomePods and 4 ATVS's solved the invite issue for me.

My update worked, but now none of my automations work and response of switching lamps is really slow.

My wife still can’t see the Home after multiple restarts. I can see her as a Resident but can’t remove or readd her. All the controls for her account are greyed out in my Home app.

Having similar problem here. Wife updated to 16.2 last night, still can't get the invite to stick. Sometimes the invite appears but won't join, sometimes she appears in the user list but she hasn't joined.

Managed to add her using the iMac to send invite. Now working on her phone but not showing in people list.

(I'd rebooted all HomePods & ATVs, had to multiple times to get them to show as responding).

Sorry Apple, it doesn't "Just works".
