Sorry Apple, it doesn't "Just works".

Apple hasn’t “just worked” since iCloud was introduced.

For what it’s worth, if you have network issues with your HomePods and/or Apple TV not working t periodically, the Home upgrade will just make things worse since those devices are now controlling all of Home.

I think results will vary - probably depends what HomeKit stuff is being used.

I have a lot of Thread stuff so no matter what - I need an edge router.

But if you have predominantly Wi-Fi stuff it could make a difference.

But if you have network issues with your AppleTV or HomePod Mini - that might be a problem worth resolving regardless of HomeKit?

Seems like a weird bit of self promotion to just link to a new thread you created - but for the folks in _this_ thread, the TLDR is “reboot all your devices after performing the upgrade”.
Apologies, I genuinely did not mean to be self promoting, just did not want to duplicate what I had put in the other post.
In hindsight I guess I should have just posted here.
Sorry.

So do we have any real solution on how to get our spouse back into our shared home? Everything's updated as required, I've re-added my spouse to our Apple TV, but no matter what I do, I'm unable to get a Home invite successfully completed. He receives the invite, appears to be added as a "resident", then he just disappears & it's as if the invite was never sent in the first place. Infuriating - for someone who's technically inclined! I cannot imagine going through this as a "regular" person.
This worked for me: delete the home app, reinstall it from the appstore and … fingers crossed

As others have mentioned, restarting each individual hub & our phones at the same time finally allowed me to add my partner. What a mess of an upgrade; glad it's complete & hope it results in improvements.

Wife’s iPhone and iPad still say “Unable to View Home, This home cannot be viewed until all homes you’re a member of have been upgraded.”

Our home has been upgraded to the new architecture. I’ve rebooted all hubs and devices to no avail. Hoping the next software update addresses this issue.

Have you checked those devices in case there's more than one "Home" in the app? Some are reporting that in addition to the shared home, there may be another personal (and empty) home in there. Try deleting that if it exists... If there's confusion over names, you could also try renaming your "live" home on your device.

So, is this worth the potential hassle? Is anyone seeing a marked improvement to their Home experience after updating the architecture?

I've troubleshooted this about as much as I can -- or as much patience I have. The best results have been in flipping the breaker and just restarting the house. I have a mix of Home Pods (7), and Wemo, Phillips, Ecobee, etc. The Wemo newer (Belkin) switch is the main offender. Flipping the breaker might solve one or two but then I'm just trading for a new problem. Oddly, the older Wemo switches are the most solid. Wishing everyone luck -- this update did solve some problems with my Apple Home Pods but opened up some other first-world problems. It's time for a cold beer...

I had to remove a newer Wemo switch and re-add it as somehow it ended up being in 2 different rooms at once. Also the Wemo app didn’t think it was added to HomeKit.

I know it's off topic, but my quick 2 cents on Wemo, I had a whole house full of their light switches, like 18 total. Not a day went by that half a dozen weren't unresponsive, I've reset them and re-added them repeatedly. No other wifi issues except these switches. Finally over Black Friday sales I broke down and bought Meross switches to replace them all. Haven't had a problem since. There's a little quirk with Meross since they need to be added to a 2.4ghz wifi network, you need to disable 5G wifi just to add them in, but after that you can go back to wifi 6 and it all works perfectly.

(and also I have a nice collection of Wemo light switches for sale if anyone is interested...)

Ditto on Wemo switches. Had them and what a PITA. I have Lutron Caseta and now use a few Lutron plugs along with light switches. Rock-solid!!!

Are your Meross devices Matter generation, or previous to Matter? I have older gen Meross outlets and am wondering if they will still work with HomeKit after upgrading the architecture.

Pre Matter version and they do work just fine after the HomeKit update. They were discounted pretty well a couple weeks ago, haven't checked recently.

I was able to fix this today!!!

I restarted all of my Home Hub devices (homepods and AppleTV) and both of our phones. After that, my spouse appeared as a resident in the Home again.
Thank you! This worked for me as well. Someone mentioned restarting HomePods via the Home app, it took me a sec to figure that one out. You scroll down to the settings for each, at the bottom it says, "Reset HomePod…" and then the first option is simply "Restart HomePod".

Besides this issue of taking a bit of work to get my wife back into our Home, I'm finding the updated framework to be excellent. Previously, I had to put my router on a nightly reboot schedule to have any semblance of staying connected to all my devices in our Home. Different devices would randomly say, "No Response." The router reboot would get them all back on again for a while. We would often have to use the actual remote to close the garage door like cavemen or something. But, since the framework update, so far all our devices have been staying connected. This is what I was hoping for when Apple announced it would be "more efficient and reliable."

As I posted in my previous post, I believe so. My whole system seems much more reliable so far. I was having lots of trouble with No Response from devices, and that seems to have gone away.

So help me understand - if I update the HomePod Minis to 16.2 I then have to update every device attached to the home to still have access?

I think I’ll stick to what I have until I update my phone - rocking an 8-plus.

Once the servers started working the update went by pretty quickly, unfortunately doing so removed adaptive lighting from my Hue lights.

I tried removing and re-adding the hub a few times with no luck. Finally I removed the hub, unplugged my 2 HomePod minis and rebooted my Apple TV. I then added the Hue bridge back and was able to enable adaptive lighting again on my lights.

On a side note, I found that when all my Home hubs were offline, the Home app on my iPad and iPhone wouldn’t work. That meshes with what I read that the upgrade sends all requests through the Home hub, even when on your home network. It doesn’t seem any faster to me.
I haven't updated yet as just gathering some info first.

My Home consists mainly of Hue Bridge (square 2.Gen)+lights+switch+movement sensor. I did read that Philips was working on an update that support Zigbee and Matter concurrently. But so far I'm on Bridge SW build 1.53.1953188020 and no particular release notes. Did you have a relevant update eluding to Matter support from Philips?

From what I've read so far, iOS 15 devices with lose Home support after updating? Hmm will have to think about this as my just now retired OG SE (15.7.1) takes over some roles as a "spare" phone, AV+Home remote, and general WiFi only device. OG HomePod is already on 16.2.

Not exactly, no. 16.2 is fine to use... it also "unlocks" the option in the Home app to update the HomeKit Architecture. You don't have to do that. But you can still run any and/or all eligible devices on the latest iOS.

My bridge is on the same SW version.

From my understanding, yes any device on iOS 15 will no longer be able to control the Home.

See I don't want to update my 8-plus as it's starting already to slow on 15.7. I dread what 16.2 would do to it. If isn't not broke, I'm not fixing. Don't force me to update Tim!
