When Last of Us came out, I went and got a PSN + subscription as well. Well, I spent the weekend downloading some games for my 'free' instant library, and was reminded what my biggest issue with the Playstation is. It isn't the hardware, which I've loved, but it's the butt @$$ slow network. The PSN is the single biggest turnoff I've ever faced in gaming in recent memory. Which is what made the the video they showed of how PSN will work in the future that much more laughable. Also throwing in that NOW they can make party chat work when they claimed years ago it was coming, only to backtrack and admit they couldn't make it work.

With that I'll stick with clueless management of M$ and the Xbox. I like the online environment, I like Live, just hate the tacky looking metro UI crap.

Also, really M$, no headset? Really?

Jack Tretton should be sending M$' management team a case of wine, for their help in selling the PS4.

Right!

While Xbox has new halo, killer instinct, dead rising, Titan fall and course forza!
Isn't Titan Fall multi platform? It's coming out on PC for sure.

Killer Instict is a free to play fighter by a team that haven't just made a decent game in years, but also haven't made a fighting game in longer.

I like those other series but if they don't come to PC or PS4 I won't be upset.

And if anyone thinks PSN won't improve (and Xbox live too) then you're of a wrong opinion!

As for PS4 exclusives I want to try all of them. Driveclub looks great fun (and will be free with ps plus), but I'm getting one because of how accepting Sony are of indies, and for games like TLOU and Beyond.

Yep. Don't care about any of those. Second Son really is only next gen exclusive, both systems considered, that has me interested. Not totally excited, mind you. Just interested.

If this is the best they can do, it will be quite a while before I get a next gen system.

Titanfall is a M$ exclusive for now, because of their EA ties. It will be on PC. Respawn has been coy, but have been hinting it will be on PS4 eventually.

Killer Instinct isn't so much free to play, as it's demo will be that you get only Jago to use. You can play the whole game with him, and you can supposedly go online with him, but you only get Jago. If you want to use other characters, they are supposedly saying that you have to buy the full game. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try the purchase each individual character model, as something new though. As far as quality, I think a lot of players are mythologizing the game. Having played both in arcades when they came out, I remember quite a few of us referring to the game's mechanics as 'dial a combo', and doing the bit where you'd you hit your ultra combo to win, and step away from the cabinet as the game finished without you. Needless to say, there was a reason why Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter, & such carried on, and KI didn't.

Do I think PSN will improve? Eventually, but we are taking a radical leap in quality, while Live has improved ( and regressed. More ads? ) over the years incrementally. Like I said, Sony claimed for how many years ( 5?) we'd get cross game chat, only to pull the rug out from under that BS. I'll wait and see this time.

For me Infamous: Second Son is the only PS4 exclusive I want to play, as I've played the other three ( Yes, I enjoyed Festival of Blood, and love that it's still playable on my PS3, having traded Infamous 2 in long ago ), and liked them all. Other than that, Titan Fall is what I'm waiting for, as well as the Division. While the Division is multi platform, I've seen the release date as being Q4 2014, which kind of kills that bit of excitement for it for now.

Quite a few friends switching to PS4, are also excited by the concept of Drive Club.

I'm not a fan of kill zone or infamous, so Sony got To hit me with better exclusives if they want my money.

Like uncharted 4, seriously. That's the only game I play on PS

i wouldn't get my hopes up for killer instinct reboot ...

fighting games in general have, with the demise of arcades in america lost alot of pulling power in the market... what was the last "new" fighting game which made a big impact on the market ?
apart of nostalgia there is little going for the genre

also the developer's history is really, really bad ... and microsoft handling a reboot of a franchise ? *cough* perfect dark *cough*

also Titanfall might have huge problems as well in market:
-The japanese like mech fighting but don't like the xbox
-It's multiplayer only (MAG in this generation was OK and Brink was a disaster)
-opposed to call of duty modern warfare it's a futuristic mech-scenario so sales in the US won't be on the same scale ... remember BF2142 ? compared to the other titles of the series it had weak sales

also don't believe any exclusive promises Capcom makes .... ever ;)

I'm sticking with Playstation and I don't like those series either, not even keen on Uncharted :). It's the very big and very small ones I'm in it for - the Last of Us, Beyond, Heavy Rain games that you don't really get on Xbox. And the push for indies is great. I don't understand how Microsoft can build up so much attention and push for indies on consoles early on, only to hand the baton to Sony.

A lot of the games I saw in their presentations I thought looked cool, but nothing I really want. Driveclub has my interest, I'd be interested to see how that pans out, it's taking note from mobile multiplayer games it seems (which is what Sony can't do because PSN sucks or something ) by having a zero-friction multiplayer experience. That's going to be a very "next-gen feature" I think.

That's another thing I don't quite understand - the dislike for PSN. I've got 60mbps but all my consoles download slowly (I've even got the N-band adapter for my 360). I find replying to friends messages quicker on my PS3, I find just pressing right on the main menu to see who is online very quick, I like the messages over two devices feature (PS3 and Vita). All it seems to be missing is out-of-game voice chat, what else is it missing? (genuine question!) I've never had a problem playing any game online.

I'm not sure I get this. You can send messages to people from anywhere in a game, no matter what game they're playing. Do you mean voice chat? They can do that on the Vita, so I imagine the PS4 will have that too.

What do they need to do to improve it, in your opinion? Are you really expecting the same service on the PS3 on the PS4? It has already improved leaps and bounds on the Vita, and that's just a handheld (with a bucketload of memory). It's bound to hardware and what the system can and can't support. PSN is just a hub for network activity. Increase the shop speed, support cross game voice chat, seems like thats all that the PS4 needs to do. They're expanding to mobiles too according to that E3 multiplayer video, and you can watch your friends playing games (not something I'd do but seems like a hugely social feature).

you got some points bro.

but unless Sony blows me away with an exclusive like Halo, ill stay with MS.

i was a huge Sony fan before, Warhawk was my FAVORITE game ( does anyone still play this game)?, i played mw2, all uncharted series, all assassins creed series as well. But xbox had games that made me move over to them, Gears Of War, Halo, Forza motorsport, Crackdown.

this is what Sony needs, exclusives, yes Last Of Us is a great game, but thats not enough to bring people.
They need to hype games like MS does. In my opinion their marketing team sucks, they did great on the DRM policies and stuff, but they have to promote their exclusives.

another huge point for MS is Minecraft, i personally dont like that ****ing game but yet it has a **** ton of downloads!!! and if you port it over to Xbox, you will have gamers coming over.

World of Tanks is coming as well, another great game.

Yes Destiny could replace Halo but then again its Multi-Platform? Sony needs a big weapon, and it seems Kilzone is not doing it.

Earlier I mentioned how I got a new subscription for PS+, over the course of the weekend, I downloaded X-Com, Deus Ex, and Uncharted 3. Now when I say over the course of the weekend, I mean, one for each day, as the time to download each was ridiculous. Uncharted 3 being the worse, because of it's insistence of making you download the free to play multiplayer & it's patches whether you wanted to or not. I in fact wanted only the single player as I didn't finish it when I had the game originally. I didn't want the multiplayer as I played it to level 50 and got bored. Either way, I remember seeing the bar show that it would take 800 + minutes to download, not including install. 800+ minutes . I eventually did get it to download in 6 hours, but that's after 2 timeout errors on the part of the store, making it an almost all Sunday affair. That's one reason why some won't embrace digital downloads immediately, as opposed to just going to pick up a disc.

In general the PS store is slow as ****, ( since the update the store itself actually has to load  ), and some of the elements of PSN are a bit awkward. Answering invites to play Uncharted 3 multiplayer ( I figured since I was FORCED to download it, I may as well try it again ), were convoluted. As opposed to Live's just click when you receive the invite. Having to look for an invite seems strange. When friends are online in PSN, I can see what they are doing, but not what they were doing, like on Live. Now, yes this is being changed in the new PSN, but it's catching up nonetheless, like party chat, to features already available on Live.

After downloading those three games, I literally fell on the floor laughing when it showed in the new PSN video of the guy playing Knack, and downloading Killzone as well, like it was a 7mb game on a T3 connection. Like party chat, I will have to see that as well first. Forgive me if I am not taking Sony's word on the changes.

As I've often said, I love Sony's hardware, but their software implementation and proprietary requirements ( UMD & Vita memory card  ), are at times just ass. I'm not the biggest fan of M$ hardware ( As my 3 departed 360's attest to, compared to my original 60GB PS3 that is still going ), but I do love Xbox Live. After all, it's how we did party chat while playing Uncharted 3 multiplayer. :D

What I am saying is that while Sony is promising and showing all the right things, until I actually see it in action, I am not taking their word for anything. They played it smart announcing PS4 under the vaguest of terms, only showing a controller initially, then letting M$ shoot themselves in the feet, fully elaborating their plans. People do forget that Sony had plans for DRM themselves at one point, even patenting a system, only to see how that worked out for M$, and wisely just focusing on games. Even the heavy focus on indy games is an altered approach as they've had indy games do well for them on PS3, but it wasn't their focus. M$ did have a focus on indy games, even giving them their own area on Live, only to put onerous restrictions & eventually just shuffling off that area of Live to a dusty corner.

In all honesty, I still don't believe there is a need for these new systems yet, as the current gen could be exploited more. I do believe a decision was made by all parties basically to improve sales this holiday season to release new systems, that would require new accessories, new games, and new services, to pump up sales. All to claim how successful this season has been, and that console gaming isn't losing sales as it's been reported across the last year. With this decision, I don't think either Sony or M$ really have a clue about what they are going to do in the coming year, and will just feel their way around till next holiday season.

This maybe a great season to look into PC Gaming actually.

I think there is too much uncertainty to buy any new console now. I think I have at least 2 or 3 years worth of games still to play on the xbox 360, before deciding on any system.

Hopefully prices will have dropped on the systems by then, and we will see which one has the better games (vs better launch games....)

I am not buying any for now.

I will wait until next spring and see what Nintendo can offer. I will build a gaming PC early next year when the nvidia 800 or ati 9000 series surfaces.

PlayStation 4.

I really tried to like the Xbox One, but not only is a PS4 €100 ($130) cheaper: it's also 50% (GPU) more powerful.

The real thing that pulls me over, though, is how Sony is acting compared to Microsoft. Yes, they are both companies and they are both trying to earn money and make a profit, but Microsoft went way too far with restricting users' rights with the Xbox One (and luckily, after extremely disappointing pre-orders, they reversed course).

That said, they have shown their intentions and I wouldn't be surprised to see them using the policies again in a few years down the road. Why? Well, first question: why does the Xbox One need a day one patch to remove the DRM and anti-used games software? They aren't even producing them yet. It means the infrastructure to possibly bring back the DRM stays in place.

Other features that pushes me toward a PS4:

- Gaikai
It's coming in 2014, but I see a huge potential in streaming. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years, we will be able to stream all our PS4 games to our iPhones/iPads/PCs/Macs.

- Share button + UStream
There's a dedicated chip to record gameplay and to share it. While it is not very useful, it can be fun to upload these kind of videos. Also, through UStream you can watch other people play videogames... which sometimes can be very enjoyable.

- Exclusive Titles
Year after year, Sony has been publishing great first party videogames. Just look at 2013: just two weeks ago, we got "The Last of Us" and this fall we will get "Gran Turismo 6" and "Beyond: Two Souls".
I am confident Sony will continue this push for great, exclusive titles with the PS4.

- Developer Friendly
As it seems right now, developers are really enthusiastic about the PlayStation 4. Especially independent developers.
Independent developers don't create the blockbuster games like Call of Duty, but sometimes they can really surprise you with innovative gameplay. Lots of indie games have already been announced that don't come to Xbox One, or at least come to PS4 first.

It might not bring in tons of people (mainly due to disappointing marketing [luckily, they have got a new marketing team for PS4 this fall]), but I have found that a lot of PS3 exclusives are miles ahead of Xbox 360 exclusives. That's just my opinion of course, but I am quite confident about Sony publishing some great exclusive titles.

What Sony does great, though, is that they usually make deals with 3rd party publishers to bring over exclusive content. Microsoft usually only does this with games like Call of Duty, and than it is often a timed exclusive for 2-4 weeks.

What Sony does, is making sure that gamers get exclusive gameplay content. For example, Watch Dogs (perhaps one of the most anticipated games of the year, coming to basically all platforms) has an hour of exclusive gameplay on PS3 and PS4.

An hour is not a lot, but it is gameplay that they can't experience on any other platform.

Haven't been keeping up, but how did MS stymie Indie game development?

Stopped highlighting XBLIG section, buried it away. Closed off XNA. Don't allow indies to self publish (everyone else does). Charged extortionate amounts for patches and processing; alienates all but the big developers. When demoing indie games at E3 they chose what, the biggest indie game ever! Not very indie-spirited, even Notch said they didn't need that.

The thing is everyone else made it better for indies and MS didn't.

Unreal. It's like Sony and MS swapped ideals for the upcoming console. MS is like we got this. Sony is like how can we help you help us too. XBLA was huge for the indie game scene even before the app explosion. Actually I'm very shocked to see Sony so engaged and plugged in to the pulses of gamers and developers this time around. Very humble and refreshing. Good business.

I really want the Xbox One due to Halo

but i also want to buy the PS4, someone please tell me things i should hate about the xbox lol.

After all Microsoft has put its customers throug and all the complaints I hear from my friends who own the 360 I am so glad I own a ps3 and can't wait to get a ps4. I don't like the I have to have the kenect to use the Xbox one. And I hate that people are still calling the 720 even though the official name has been released. If I wanted to get pushed around and restricted by company I would but no thank you. Not saying Sony is 100% but they are at least not trying to mess with their customers like Microsoft. Just my thoughts.

P.S. if history tells us anything well we see the overheating problems we did with the original and 360 xboxs?

1.2 TFlops performance for Xbox One
1.8 TFlops performance for PlayStation 4
That's a 50% increase.

Of course, in reality, differences will be much smaller, but PlayStation 4 is likely to have the advantage in both multiplatform and exclusive titles.

It sounds like you really want an Xbox One, so just go for it. ;)

If it helps: the original developer of Halo, Bungie, doesn't do Halo games anymore. In fact, they recently announced their new game "Destiny"... with exclusive content coming to PlayStation 4.

To me, Microsoft's attitude is really negative while Sony's attitude is really positive. Combine that with more powerful hardware, a lower price, a steady flow of exclusives over the years and "PS+" that's drastically better than "Xbox Live" (in my opinion) - in my opinion, this is a winner combination for Sony.

by exclusive content, you mean DLC's right? because as far as i know Destiny is Multi-Platform.

do you know whats keeping me with xbox? Halo and TitanFall

i do have a 360 though, so i can get titanfall on that. But i really need the new halo man

Not DLC. I mean exclusive content as in: only on PlayStation 4. Destiny is a game from the developers of the Halo-series.

Same with, for example, Watch Dogs which is a highly anticipated game. It's got exclusive gameplay content - not DLC - only on PlayStation - and it is not coming to any other platform.
Same story for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. There's gameplay content exclusive to PlayStation 4.

do you know whats keeping me with xbox? Halo and TitanFall

Fair enough. Just wanted to let you know that Halo isn't developed by Bungie anymore, though. In my opinion, Halo isn't the series it used to be.

As for TitanFall... yeah. I don't know. I wasn't impressed, but I could see how others could have been. Too bad it is a one year exclusive before it comes to PlayStation 4.

You wanted reasons why you should go for a PlayStation 4 and I gave some to you. I also told you that if you really want an Xbox One, just buy an Xbox One.
