You are lucky my friend, thank god you didn't get one of the millions of defective ones, (have you seen all the battery threads, and Apple's attempt with a software fix in 5.0.1?
Siri doesn't even connect or recognize voices for 1/2 it's millions of owners.
Polished device my tailfeathers -

oh stop your siri rant!!!! IT"S BETA!!!!!!!!!! you sound like those guy that joined the developer program to use 5.0 beta then got on here slamming apple about all the bugs. Betas are beta to find the bugs and fix them.

Ive read this thread from top to bottom and have concluded this. Your mistake was buying your first iPhone when you did. there was already a precedent set from iPhone to iPhone 3g that it was going to be a yearly release schedule Yet you jumped on it anyway, Now through some bad timing you missed the iPhone 4 and expected a redesigned 5 (even though apple never said anything about that) when the iPhone 4s comes out you are underwhelmed but choose to buy it anyway. (you chose to buy it even if your phone died, you could have bought something else)

so now you get on here screaming about how the 4s is the same as the 4 based on youtube videos. (it is a great improvement by the way, and i don't need youtube video comparisons to tell me. I have something you don't, experience with the iPhone 4 to compare to)

so in the end, if you are unhappy GET SOMETHING ELSE!!! but by all means don't come here spewing your mindless drivel that is based in circumstance and not actual fault of anyone but your own.

if you think jumping to a different manufacturer or platform will result in a more predictable refresh cycle then good luck. Have fun depending on carriers to roll out your updates unless you get a nexus or root.

"so in the end, if you are unhappy GET SOMETHING ELSE!!! but by all means don't come here spewing your mindless drivel that is based in circumstance and not actual fault of anyone but your own."

this.

Consider yourself fortunate Pete, imagine if you were one of the millions with serious 4s battery problems, you wouldn't have that smirk on your face right now, would you, (some even blow up)

How about this guy ........ "2nd iPhone 4s hot to touch battery lasts 3 hours on standby"

I doubt that there are "millions" of people having problems. I could, if you wanted to play this game, find lots of threads on various sites of people complaining about similar problems with virtually every smartphone ever made. In the end, for every person who has legitimate issues there are probably twenty people who imagine those problems and a hundred who have no issues at all.

Listen, it's not really about iPhone vs Android. People like one or the other. I've been on both sides, and I really liked at least my Nexus S. There was a time when I never would have seriously considered getting an iPhone.

It's not a siri rant, what's wrong with you?
If you spent even 5 secs using the search button before you pulled out your keyboard, you would know that siri has treated me very well and that I like siri alot -

Another vote for "every day"

  • When walking or driving
  • Multi-taking (way easier to use Siri than interup what I'm doing)
  • There are some things that Siri does just faster (set reminders; text a person; set an alarm)

I'm amazed at the accuracy, particularly dictation. It's really stunning, getting even proper names correct. You can also start seeing the future when more commands are added and the service is opened up to vendors. Siri is simply way ahead of the field, and that definitely includes Android's good, but very limited, command oriented service.

I agree, I use siri often everyday.
With siri, there is no longer ever a reason for my to click home, swipe, click home button again, tap phone, tap contacts, scroll for a number, tap call.
I don't care if I'm driving, or just sitting in front of the TV, I push and hold, then tell siri who to call.

No more sticky notes everywhere, when something pops into my head, click and hold one time, and siri sets a reminder. "Bob birthday january 4th" - "Call Marcie at 4:30"

Finally, never have to turn down the music or tv to listen if the oven timer is going off -

I have already set reminders 1 week in advance for all family member's b-days so I have time to mail something out -

With locations services turned on, siri is never lost and can tell me where the nearest KFC is if I simply ask her, (I can't google search while I'm driving) -

I stopped using the calculator app on my phone, siri now does my math -

If I am sitting alone with both hands free and no distractions, I still click and hold and let siri pull up my contact and type out my text message, (I have no reason to go tap, tap, tap with my thumbs, when I can simply dictate) -

I am a mechanic by trade, do you know how many times in one day I reach into my pocket, push and hold, and say, "Call Napa" -

I live in Chicago and Siri works very well here.
If I lived in the UK or elsewhere with connections problems/and or speech recognition problems, then I would throw this POS iphone 4s off the 1st bridge I crossed, cause it ain't nothing more that a repackaged 4 that I was forced to sign a 2 year contract to get -
I am very dissapointed with the 4s, but Siri definitely makes it easier to swallow. When she has more control in the future to open apps like Facebook, Weather Radar, Pandora, then she will be special -

1 - Nobody FORCED you to sign anything. You did so on your own free will and were made aware of what you were getting into BEFORE you did so. Most states have a remorse clause in their contracts that allows you to cancel it without any fees or obligation. Usually this is 15 days.

2 - 4S is not the same as the 4. It LOOKS the same but the camera is now 8 vs 5 megapixels, it records 1080p video vs 720p video, it has video stabilization vs none, A5 processors vs A4, Siri vs none, 64gb vs 32gb and is now a world phone. Those are pretty significant upgrades if you ask me. Not to mention the many other smaller updates and fixes. I had a 4, still do. Upgraded to the 4S. I will upgrade every year for the latest. That's just how I roll. It's the ONE device I do this with. I don't do it for anything else.

It sounds like you're unhappy and are looking for justification. We can't give that to you. YOU have to decide what you want and if it will work for your circumstances. iPhone is not the end all device for some. For others, it's perfect (such as myself). Every device has it's downfalls and pluses. Again, it's up to YOU to research and decide what you want.

At this point, you're beating a dead horse. Sell it and move on or keep it and enjoy what you have. Nobody forced you to do anything. :)

It makes me smile by reading this thread. :D

Also, it makes me wonder why it is 4 pages long now and Mod has not shut down it yet.

Happy Holidays every one!

Mine is fine too, and the 3 other friends who i have that also got the 4S doesn't have a problem at all. Usually you will ALWAYS see problem threads on forums because that is what forums are there for.

And i'm not convinced that there is millions of people with defective phones just because the forums shows a lot of problems, no matter what forum you go to, problems are always brought up, because people want help, on forums.

Where are you getting the numbers of defective phones?

I can confirm this is true. Siri doesn't understand 90% of my commands and I have no accent. Born and raised in the midwest. I have witnessed several other people have massive fails with Siri as well, and the number of complaints on the forums speaks for itself.

I'm guessing your phone is defect, because even I who am Swede that has english as a 2nd language can talk to siri almost flawless!

Usually i've seen people with battery problem that gets a new phone and still has the problem are not experience any hardware defects, but rather a software bug that makes the battery drain as they always seem to get a "faulty phone" afterwards which is proof to me that there is something with their old backup that is making this happen..

Agreed. It sounds like you couldn't FUNCTION without the feature you claim is broken. In fairness, you do imply it's just broken for OTHERS, but even if we ignore the fact that Apple has said it was a "BETA" from day one (which even I admit is a bit cheap), it seems to work on a whole lot of things for you.

Your other point with regards to wanting to drop everything and sell the phone is Jailbreaking... WHY?!? What do you want so desperately that only jailbreaking can provide?

I have owned EVERY iteration of the iPhone (after being someone who upgraded devices monthly prior), and I agree 100% that the 2G needed it at the time. Since the 4 though, Apple has made jailbreaking worthwhile for only 2 things really: Pirating (no judgement here...), and iBlacklist. Everything else (and ya, emulation falls under "pirating", even if you want to be cute and say you own the games you have ROMs for) has largely been fixed.

Regardless, if you are so upset because you had to wait 30 days (a fiasco it was not... the MAJORITY of people who preordered received theirs fine), OK! Go. It's no worries, just a little silly.

The vast MAJORITY of users 4S batteries are fine (there IS a problem, but it is nowhere near millions... just because you read it on the web doesn't mean 50% have the issue).

The vast MAJORITY of people who speak English natively can use Siri. I realize that if you live in India or piced up English as a second language (admirable), you MAY have an issue... heck even if you have a thick accent... but SO WHAT?!? Apple never promised it would work 100% of the time with everyone. Ever.

Good luck with Samsung. Want to start apologizing for the cheap plastic case, fragmented software, clunky design, and lousy resale value now or are you planning on waiting until you are in line for the iPhone 5?

Just wondering

:p

Are you complaining about the releases for the iPhone? I mean, it was pretty much set in stone that they released a new iPhone every June/July. This year was the first time it was pushed back to October, excluding the first cdma version. If you want to switch to Android, by all means go ahead. The thing I dislike about Android phones is that they're releasing new phones monthly and the Android lacks the consistent version of operating systems across their phones. I don't even think ICS is going to arrive on the SGSII for another couple of months.

"you feel like you have to have the latest and greatest"
Get real. I have been stuck with a 3g for 3 flippin years, (I would like to have the latest/greatest one time!)
(do you hear me?, one time I would like to have the latest/greatest and sign a new 2year deal, just one flippin time).

You had the latest and greatest for 6 months when you first bought your 3G and you have it now with the 4S.

What's the problem?

That's funny, I thought you would read the OP before commenting -
(my 3g was 7 months old when I bought it, and it took 17 months to re-launch the 2yo 4) ;)

Not know about CarrierIQ versus making thousands of posts trolling an Apple site even though you're clearly a "fan" of Google devices. Yeah, let me get back to you on which is worse.

Carrieriq has nothing to do with android, it's to do with carriers. It was on iOS too...

Various Widget Addons (this is the most crucial IMO)
Bite SMS
Themes

Those are what popped into my mind immediately. if I sat down to think a bit longer I think I could come up with more. That said, I am not sure why the OP wants to JB and THEN sell it.

Well, it will have it's most value when JB comes out. Doesn't need to be jailbroken. With how easy it is to get factory unlocked phones and such I am not sure we are going to see iPhone resale as high as it used to be. I used to get $500+ for an iPhone. The iPhone 4 (the best of the bunch) only went for $300. This was JB and soft unlocked.

----------

And... your point is moot. One cannot say how terrible Android is for giving away user info when the same happened on iOS (in other words, it was OS agnostic)... Hence, the comment about ignorance was made.

It will be worth more JB and unlocked, than not, maybe marginally, but it will.
Some folks laugh at the resale value of non-iphones, but I agree with your assessment that the beloved iphone's resale value is dropping like a stone

7 months old, but still the latest and greatest available at the time and it remained that way for 6 more months until the 3GS was released.
