7 months old, but still the latest and greatest available at the time and it remained that way for 6 more months until the 4 was released.

It was only the latest and greatest if you consider Apple's products only. There were plenty of later and greater phones that came out in that time period...

Considering that the OP stated, "I had no idea the 3gs would come out 5 months later, and I had no idea the 4 would come out the following june when I still had 6 months left...", I think it's safe to only consider Apple products.

But will it be the same phone only with Siri 2yrs from now, (prolly much different)?
Will we have to survive the 2 month pre-order ordeal?
How about the battery ordeal, or siri not connecting consistantly in some countries, (not countys)?
At least I won't have to wait for a genius to JB to make it customizable and as functional as it was designed to be -

I could be totally wrong and may fly back to iphone 5s comes out, (roll eyes), but I would like to, (if only for a few months), give the non-iphone experience a try -

I see some other posters have actually bashed me for my post -
Shame on me for wanting to have a look behind door number 2 -
(the nerve)
Why did you feel the need to make a thread? So... Your switching to andriod, lots of people do that. Who cares?

Well, it will have it's most value when JB comes out. Doesn't need to be jailbroken. With how easy it is to get factory unlocked phones and such I am not sure we are going to see iPhone resale as high as it used to be. I used to get $500+ for an iPhone. The iPhone 4 (the best of the bunch) only went for $300. This was JB and soft unlocked.

And... your point is moot. One cannot say how terrible Android is for giving away user info when the same happened on iOS (in other words, it was OS agnostic)... Hence, the comment about ignorance was made.
I was comparing a guy not knowing about carrierIQ to a guy making it his life's mission to convert Apple users to Android users. I wasn't saying Jare was correct, I was smashing stealthipad for calling Jare's ignorance sad when all stealthipad does is post all day like Google is paying him.

LOL this thread made me laugh. I don't understand the big deal. No matter what brand you get, there will be a newer better one around the corner. If you keep waiting for the next best one, then you'll spend your life waiting.
Personally, I prefer to enjoy my stuff and not worry about always having the latest and greatest. Then eventually when I'm ready to upgrade, I do.

Wait a sec. Your going to samsung's phones because you don't want the phone you buy to be instantly succeeded? Do you know how many phones that company pumps out?

No, it's all a matter of luck, and I have been extremely unlucky, leading to my less then thrilly iphone ride -

And when I purchaced my 1st iphone 3g, it was light years better than the Nextel flip phones I had used for previous years, I LOVED the 3g and was sold on iphone -
It's just the unluckyness of getting the nonlubricated shaft when it was my turn to jump on the ride, that left a sour taste in my mouth -
Now I patiently wait, and 16 months later it's the same phone, only with Siri - good grief !!!

edit - thank God I'm not one of the folks with the battery issue, or I might really start to complain !!!

its not the same phone at all. faster processor, more ram, new graphics card, more memory, better camera, new antenna design. The only thing not change, was the actually looks of the phone. who cares what it looks like, the other things are what is important. the fact that you aren't looking at what's below the surface says a lot about you and what is important to you?

Would you have been happy if it was the exact same innards of the 4 but with a new outer case? Because that would be a sucky phone that I would be disappointed in.

That's 100% wrong my friend, maybe you should read the original post before you pull out your keyboard.

"you feel like you have to have the latest and greatest"
Get real. I have been stuck with a 3g for 3 flippin years, (I would like to have the latest/greatest one time!)
(do you hear me?, one time I would like to have the latest/greatest and sign a new 2year deal, just one flippin time).

I understand all the android hate since this is an "apple" site, but most of the peeps in here talk about bad experiences with old android phones. How about trying out the new android phones, SGS2, Nexus, droid, etc.

The year 2011 has been nothing but a huge fiasco for iphone lovers, and I'm sick of it -
(and I'm shocked that I'm the only one)

You OP says you have a 4S, now you are complaining because you have the latest and greatest but it looks the same as the phone from the previous year....again who cares about looks.

Im slowly reading through an laughing at your arguments. There maybe several comments in a row from me as I mock your whining.

You are lucky my friend, thank god you didn't get one of the millions of defective ones, (have you seen all the battery threads, and Apple's attempt with a software fix in 5.0.1?
Siri doesn't even connect or recognize voices for 1/2 it's millions of owners.
Polished device my tailfeathers -

It's funny android fanboys try to say the battery "problems" the iPhone 4S has is a reason not to get it when even with the problems, it still has a better battery life then most android phone available (stock). I personally have no problems with my battery on my 4S and find that the battery is better then the 4 that my wife has now.

----------

That's funny, I thought you would read the OP before commenting -
(my 3g was 7 months old when I bought it, and it took 17 months to re-launch the 2yo 4) ;)
you bought the latest and greatest phone available 7 months after launch. At that time the 3G actually was the latest and greatest, there were no android phone any where near it. So you had the latest and greatest for 5 months until the 3GS came out.
Then you bought a 4S somewhere a month or so after it came out. I don't think in the month after release any phone was reviewed and stated to be better so again you had the latest and greatest. I'm not even sure what phone is the latest and greatest now, but if it isn't the 4S the 4S is still in the top 4 or 5.

Enjoy your Android experience. The iPhone isn't for everyone. Just don't see why you had to make it such a big deal. If you don't enjoy the iPhone get rid of it and buy Android and be happy.

Wait a sec. Your going to samsung's phones because you don't want the phone you buy to be instantly succeeded? Do you know how many phones that company pumps out?

OP wants the SGS3, which will be introduced at MWC 2012, Feb.27. That's a year after the SGS2 was introduced at MWC 2011. The Galaxy S line is what goes up against the iPhone. It gets updated yearly. Does a yearly cycle seem to quick to you? Maybe someone needs to ask you, Do you have any clue how many phones phones it pumps out in direct competition to the iphone? I'm guessing you're one of the blind loyalist who believes that Samsung is putting out a new Galaxy S phone every month. So by that logic, Samsung must be on the Galaxy S13 by now.

This fourm is for learning and helping others with your iPhone, NOT TO RANT ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE, AND ALL YOUR PERSONAL DRAMA!

How is this a surprise to you?

Did you completely not see the whole iPhone 3G/iPhone 3Gs cycle? Where 12 months after the iPhone 3G, it was the same phone, only with a faster processor and a better camera?

Having seen that, how could you not think there'd be the possibility that they'd do the same thing with the iPhone 4s?

So when Apple decided they needed an extra 6 months this time around, you knew it was going to be a repackaged 4, and not a totally new iphone5?

I can't beleive you knew this and didn't share it with the rest of the community,
(you could have saved many of us from huge dissapointment) :(

Do what I do:

Wait until there is an official JB/Unlock. Sell your iPhone on eBay unlocked before the next release. I normally average about $375 for the sale. Apply that sale to the new iPhone (~$599 w/o contract), which equates to roughly the amount paid for the $199 16GB (current) 4S. You have a new iPhone every year and you are not contracted and beholden to a company. This way, you are not stuck in the 2 year contract cycle (which I understand was frustrating for some 3GS and 4S owners as they believed - perhaps correctly - that those updates were not as "golden" as the 3G and 4 models).

Apple will always play their cards close to their chest, so we will never know ahead of time what will be released to the consumer public. Love it or hate it, technology changes faster than some peoples undergarments (slight exaggeration). I can confidently state the iPhone 5 that was due for last year but shelved due to LTE battery drain will be available this Autumn (which would bridge the issue of simultaneous voice + data for iPhone owners on non-AT&T Wireless networks) Perhaps wait it out :)

Good luck! :)

so you expect us to believe you've been a forum member here since September! the 4S was released in October! ..and you didn't know what you were getting before signing a two year contract?

here's what I think you're issue is: your 'friends' have Android devices! they've somehow brainwashed you into believing your new 4S is an old re-hash and not the latest & greatest! they will allow you into their cult only when you have the same device as them.

solution: keep the iPhone & get new friends.

Your words make zero sense, clearly you didn't bother to read the OP

Actually almost all of my friends have iphones, and I even talked my neighbor into selling his Evo, (after I replaced the cracked lcd and the digitizer) and getting an iphone4, (and he loves it).

I have bragged about iphones for years now, and just because I am dissapointed with the relabled 4, doesn't give folks the right to BASH me for it -
Your words are wreckless and without any merit, thanks for your participation. :)

It's a phone. If you don't like the phone you have, get rid of it and get a different one. This should probably not amount to the apparent major crisis in your life you've made it out to be.
