After Mocking Apple, Samsung May Remove Power Adapter From Galaxy S21 Box

Apple's decision to remove chargers is stupid.

They tell people you have enough old chargers from old phones. Sure, we do. But they're all freakin USB-A connectors, for anyone that's been an iPhone/iPad user...

What do they include in the box? A lightning to USB-C cable...

Sure we might already have lightning cables to go with those chargers, but those break, get lost all the time. The chargers don't. I still have one from my iPhone 3G - yes the one without the green dot that I never replaced. I still use it at the cottage.

If profits are so god damn important, they should have stuck with a basic 5W power charger that's gotta cost pennies on the dollar after all this time. You want a faster one? buy one. But you still have a basic no frills charger you can use anywhere and use it out of the box.

Earbuds i dont really care much for, that can go the way of the dodo. But not including a basic charger for a device that needs DAILY charging, is stupid.

At least by including a charger with every phone, Apple and Samsung ensure that most people are using a high quality charger. Now everyone who buys a new phone will have to buy a charger if they don't have one, and you know people will go for the cheapest garbage that does the job.

Part of me feels its wrong for Apple and (perhaps) Samsung to take earphones and power adapters out of the box. Yet, another part feels I don't really use wired headphones and I have few power adapers. And, in most cases I plug my phone up to my desktop. But if anything, I do feel both Samsung and Apple can leave a dongle.. I believe something that small won't make much a difference for packaging.

There are a lot of good adapters on Amazon (Amazon Basics and Anker), but there is also a lot of garbage adapters that you have to be cautious with that are poorly manufactured that don’t have the appropriate labeling and insulation, which poses a fire hazard. Years ago, Amazon stated they would crack down on that, but some still do make their way For sale.

Aren’t cheap batteries the real problem? When a charger goes bad, it just doesn’t deliver a charge but when a battery goes bad it can combust randomly.

Apple will sell millions and millions of devices regardless of headphone jacks or chargers in the box. That just speaks to how good Apples software/services and support is. The problem with Samsung and other companies is that they lazily copy the worst parts of Apple and ignore the part that makes Apple, Apple.

A very long time, as in never. The number of products which require USB charging of one or other flavour and ship without a power supply/charger is legion and growing constantly. Provided Apple's power requirements are standards compliant there is no responsibility or requirement for them to provide a power brick.

You are mostly right. Except for the last one. Samsung has indeed built phones that burst into flames. I've seen on some flight information that I was not allowed to take certain Samsung phones with me on a flight. And they did that without copying Apple.

This one, Apple copied Samsung with the former's MacBook Pro lineup.

I don't understand why Samsung feels the need to remove the charger. Apple did it to cut costs and not need to price hike, if it were for the environment they would've reduced the cost of the iPhone by $20. Is Samsung in the same position right exactly now of trying to avoid a price hike?

Sure....I had +15 chargers, none of them USB-C, now I bough two from Apple.

in general I’m not surprised though but in truth I think this is the one thing Samsung and other competitors should copy Apple. If they can remove wall chargers and wired headphones and reduce the price of the phone as well as make the box slimmer then it’s a win win

If someone goes for the cheapest unknown charger they find after spending 800-1200 bucks on a phone it's their fault, and if it fails it's the trouble they asked for (for being cheap, and for deciding to buy such an expensive phone that doesn't include it). Now, I can't see anyone filing a lawsuit against Apple/Samsung when the charger that failed wasn't from them: even if it's from pure greed (with an ecologic excuse in the background) they actually offer an official one, and that's the one people should buy.
