I don’t understand your logic. You don’t have to buy it so what eco cost it’ll make? The magsafe productions would cost ecologically much less than including charger in the phone box, both on manufacturing and shipping, simply because people have to buy it and not getting it for free.

I'm sorry but if you don't understand how the argument of "hey, use your existing charger to be eco friendly, but also buy our new proprietry charging cable" is nonsense, there's no point continuing this discussion.

What a dumb post. Samsung sells millions of devices too. So clearly they know what they are doing.
Furthermore, they've got a lot of hardware out there not evident at first glance. Panels galore on many, many TVs and monitors, memory, batteries. I was watching a video comparing best lithium ion batteries for cordless tools, near all of them using Samsung batteries under the battery cover of Milwaukee, Makita, Dewalt. They move a lot of product.

Here’s from the stock-pile in our household....

I don't think it's fair to criticize Samsung so harshly for doing this.

Why would Samsung continue to offer a charging brick (and experience the additional cost of a bigger box / lost opportunity of selling the brick for more money) if their biggest competitor doesn't anymore? Sure, they're completely copying Apple, but more realistically, they're just trying to keep the playing field level.

It's like if Apple and Samsung were running a barefoot race. Apple decides to start wearing shoes. Samsung says "Look at these guys. Pfft. Wearing shoes." It's a fair point from Samsung—they've always run barefoot until now. But would you be mad at Samsung if they then decided to start wearing shoes, too? After all, they're just trying to keep a competitive edge...

As much as it pains me to say it, the real losers are...us. We will still buy the iPhone because we love Apple products. (Ain't nothing wrong with that, either!) Our consumption is the real signal that, yes, companies can sell phones without the charging brick.

Also, I'm all for saving the environment but I didn't buy that pitch from Apple this year because a lot of people will need to buy additional USB-C charging bricks anyways LOL

There are a lot of good adapters on Amazon (Amazon Basics and Anker), but there is also a lot of garbage adapters that you have to be cautious with that are poorly manufactured that don’t have the appropriate labeling and insulation, which poses a fire hazard. Years ago, Amazon stated they would crack down on that, but some still do make their way For sale.
Reminds me of a time when Apple bought 100 “Original Apple iPhone chargers” from Amazon and examined them. With the result that zero were original apple chargers, and about 80% were dangerous.

Aren’t cheap batteries the real problem? When a charger goes bad, it just doesn’t deliver a charge but when a battery goes bad it can combust randomly.
Bad chargers _are_ dangerous. Remember they are plugged in the wall with anything from 110 to 240 Volt, so it’s obvious they can be dangerous. Imagine your lightning cable unexpectedly has 240 Volt between pins, that could kill you easily.

When there was a Mac Vs PC ads, these were appropirate as it was the small guy vs the big guy. With Samsung controlling a big part of the smartphone business wordwide, it is ridiculous following similar marketing tactics against Apple.

minor detail: i absolutely love how they wrote “does give you what you are looking for” as opposed to simply “gives you what you are looking for”, implying that this is a contested point, as if they are responding to someone who doesn’t believe them.

Atleast Samsung has been shipping USB-C power bricks for the past several years unlike Apple.

I wonder how long until the first lawsuit because someone bought a crappy no-brand charger from a mall kiosk and it caught fire, burning down their house.

At least by including a charger with every phone, Apple and Samsung ensure that most people are using a high quality charger. Now everyone who buys a new phone will have to buy a charger if they don't have one, and you know people will go for the cheapest garbage that does the job.
I get your sentiment, but why is the honus on Apple/Samsung to ensure you have a high quality charger?

It's like me complaining to VW when the oil I put in my vehicle is incorrect and causes damage. At least Apple/Samsung sell the appropriate chargers.

And throw out all the digital movies and apps already bought?

That’s stating the obvious for any digital platform and isn’t at all Apple specific. My kindle eBooks don’t work on my Kobo. MyPS4 games don’t work on an Xbox. Plenty online stores used to not credit your purchases if you moved to another country- the list probably goes on...
Besides that, if you had a Windows pc, couldn’t you download your movies with iTunes?

Not that they actually need to, but Apple should hit back with a marketing campaign showing how they are continuously copied. Yes, I know, they copy themselves.

But in many instances (for better or worse), Apple drives and influences the smartphone industry.
