Just curious,

I don't own an Air 2 but for those that do, what is it lacking that you would like to see resolved in an Air 3?

Ya, I can't see the 9.7" line being dropped altogether but I do see the 'Pro' model as more of a bridge between a tablet and a laptop (well, I'm hoping so anyway).

I am really, really hoping we get an iPad Air 3. If we don't I'll be a tad annoyed with Apple, but I guess if we don't get an Air 3 I may end up getting the "iPad Pro" .... IF it is really an actual product, (I still am not 100% convinced it will be real) or if it is I think it might be more for business stuff. Also it would be a first gen... So I guess I'll be a bit weary about getting one.

I don't think you can consider the iPad Pro to be a first generation product. It's really going to be a larger sized iPad. It's no more a first generation product than the iPhone 6 was just because it has a larger screen.

I want an iPad Air 3. Not because my iPad Air 2 is under performing, but I have a hand me down process. My wife gets my old iPad and my daughter gets my wife old iPad. My daughter's iPad 2 is getting a bit old now and could do with an upgrade.

For me it's that I enjoy upgrading one of my devices for my birthday. And even though the air 2 would be an upgrade over my air 1, it'd be nicer to have a newer iPad that isn't already a year old.

I have been wondering whether we'll see an Air 3 this year. Kinda want to upgrade my Air 1 this December, and am hoping for an updated iPad. I'd like to see force touch on it, and maybe A9 perhaps?
Anyway, what does everyone think? Is there a chance we'll see an Air 3 or will the Air 2 stick around for a while longer?
air 2 will probably stick around...either you wait till next year or get air 2 now...because as time ticks...more likely to be buyers remorse later.

The audio vibration on the screen and back , a fix for that

If they can make it thinner I wouldn't mind

I think there's one problem with all this "no Air 3" stuff... Digitimes reported it, and aren't they the site always reporting that Apple plans to do this and that... Yet it is very hit and miss? I feel Wikipedia would be more reliable...

All I'm saying is I think an Air 3 is just as likely as a new iPhone, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro and Apple TV announcement. Now if a more reputable source (like that KGI security analyst Ming Chi Kuo) came and said, "there will be NO AIR 3!" Then I might give it more stock. Right now my guess is this...

Sept 9th...
iPhone 6s and 6s+.
Apple TV 4g.
iOS9.
El Capitan.
Watch OS2

Then on October 13 or 15th...
iPad Pro.
iPad Air 3.
iMac 21" 4k.

My personal theories on the 2/3 iPads...
Theory 1.) No iPad Mini 3. I'm thinking they planned last years sucky update purposefully, because perhaps they are going to axe it or treat it more like the iPod Touch. I have seen one iPad mini in the wild, but many of 9.7" iPads.
I think the original sized iPads are selling enough that Apple wouldn't want to take the chance on losing any sales on them.

Theory 2.) No iPad Pro until Spring 2016, (I am still not convinced it even exists)... but if it did, I don't think it is ready for prime time, and it may turn out to be an IBM or internal kind of device.

...Theory 3.) No iPad Air 3 until next year... Wait no I'm sorry... it just seems too odd for Apple to suddenly stop updating the original iPad after 5 years. Now I could be dead wrong, but this whole rumor seems too silly and sketchy for me.

Theory 4.) Is it possible I am posting this all to make myself feel better?... Perhaps... Yet my gut still tells me to take rumors from unreliable sources and say Horse Pucky! ;)

Posted this in another thread, I think it's worth taking into account:

There was a rumour a few weeks ago about the iPad Pro being iPad6,8. That sounds like there are three iPads this year, as there are usually no more than three strings for each iPad model (the only exception being the iPad 2, which had separate GSM and CDMA 3G models).
I'm calling it, Mini 4, Air 3, Pro.

EDIT: Also, just realised this also means good things for the Mini. The original Mini had the iPad2 strings, like the iPad 2, and the Mini 3 had the iPad4 strings, like the Air and Mini 2. If the Mini 4 is a shrunken down Air 2, it would have the iPad5 strings, like the Air 2. In that case, even an Air and Pro couldn't account for 8 strings.

TLDR: We'll likely see an Air 3 and a full specced Mini 4 this year.

What would decrease the most in value (iPair 2 16GB or a 128GB) when the iPad air 3 comes out?
The 128GB would decrease most. You pay a $200 premium to buy but you won't get $200 more than a 16GB model when you sell.

On the other hand, any 16GB device is going to be very cramped for a lot of users. 32 or 64GB will be the best bet for most users and probably the easiest to resell later.

i dont see a reason to update the iPad Air 2 to be honest cuz the other devices will most likely just now catch up to the 2GB of RAM. the inclusion of the A9X could be a quiet update

I definitely want a Air 2 or 3. I'm getting totally sick of the "An error has occured. This site will be reloaded" errors for content heavy sites.

I think Apple "KILLED" Air 3 and replace with iPad Pro. Apple doesn't like to sell 3 different iPads

What I heard is that they are killing iPad Mini. Mini 4 will be the last Mini to be launched by Apple. They are focusing on iPad & iPad Pro.

Yep, that's the biggest one for me. If they solve that, I'm IN regardless of whether they actually upgrade anything else or not.

That is an issue for me too. Probably just a pet peeve but still it's source of discomfort especially when I am not using earphones. This has actually been a dealbreaker for me to get iPad Air 2 (which was a really great upgrade from any its previous gen).

I guess we'll find out tomorrow! Or maybe next month....
Either way, I've decided that I'll upgrade my Air regardless.

I sold my Air and bought an open box Air 2 from BB a couple of months ago while they were having a sale, so the price was great ($500 for 64GB LTE Space Gray). I bought it mostly because I really wanted to try the iOS 9 beta features. It was a great move. I doubt I'll feel like I want to move to an Air 3, even if they do introduce one this fall.

Awesome, I think the split screen multitasking kinda puts the air 2 into a whole different category for the iPad. It is a very helpful feature.

It works surprisingly well. It will be infinitely more valuable if (as I hope) Apple extends that feature to non-native apps. We shall see...
