Yours looks very similar to mine.. Pink on the sides in landscape and green in the middle. I find it to be very distracting in normal usage. It really depends on how much you notice it.. but personally mine feels like I'm reading from the inside of an inside-out watermelon.

Analogy of the year, right there :)

Did you miss my reply?

"If you don't see it, you don't have it."

one more time, just in case...

"If you don't see it, you don't have it."
I see it, but this is a small defect to me, but if I can have a perfect iPad, I sound take it. But the question is: How many iPads are perfect? What are the probabilities to find an iPad with a perfect display?

It depends how severe it is and how much it bothers you. You shouldn't have gone looking for it in the first place because now you'll obsess over it. True, you may get a perfect replacement BUT you can also get a significantly worst one. It is a real lottery.

Mine too!

Not really relevant to the conversation then. Although I would be interested to know what percent of iPad Airs are affected like this. Its gotta be a decent amount to have so many of us hit by it but I bet its a smaller percent than we make it seem.

Got my replacement today. Exactly the same display problem :(
I think i will wait a month and then ask for a new one.

If I will replace my iPad next month they will give me a refurbished product. Is this a problem or is it like a new iPad?

Thats what you would think - but as it often happens with this stuff you are only seeing posts from those affected. Its rather dull to post "My Air screen is perfect". I believe those that claim they have an issue - totally feel their pain. But, I suspect its NOT that widespread of a problem as a percentage of the user base.

Just my 3 cents.

I completely agree, its essentially what I was trying to say. There clearly is a screen issue, but we could just be the 0.001% affected. What makes me thinks its gotta be at least somewhat prevalent of an issue is all the people posting that they traded theirs in and the second one had the same problem.

Rather than try to change our iPad for an acceptable unit we could all get treatment for OCD as some on here would like us to do.

While we are waiting for the treatment we could make sure all the tins in our cupboards are straight :)

The OCD thing is used far too frequently on this forum, true OCD is far more serious than 'oh my screen is a bit yellow'!

I think most people are mixing up 'celebrity OCD' with actual OCD!

:)

I don't agree.
Only people with the problem write here, but 99% of the people with the problem don't notice it, or don't care about it.

I had the uneven light problem on my iPad 3. It was not that bad and otherwise had a beautiful screen. I was afraid if I exchanged it that I would get something worse. But really why should anyone have to 'settle' for something that is not up to par. I don't care if it's called OCD, being picky, or what ever. It's just wrong having to pay full price for something that is less than what it should be. As I stated in a prior post, I'll wait for a couple of weeks at least then do an exchange of my iPad Air. If I have to exchange it 50 times to get one right then so be it. No way I am going to settle for anything less this time around for a $600 product. Maybe if enough people don't settle for less than Apple will see the amount of returns is too much damage to their bottom line and they will put out a product as is should be.

Well I'm on my third device now.... Only the first one had the shadowy area on the left. The second and now third have had the color issue with the yellowing on the left in portrait. I'm returning this third one tonight and will try the retina mini when it's released. Hopefully it won't have the same issues. :(

Exactly. Its one of my most expensive products and I use it more than anything but my phone. I expect a certain level of quality which doesn't include a two-toned screen. .

1. It is not a good idea to test the shadow by maxing out your brightness. While that provides consistency for comparison, those with the shadow problem all know that the defect becomes less apparent with brightness. If I max mine out, I barely notice it and it becomes acceptable. Unfortunately, I don't use my ipad at max brightness all the time. That would kill battery life and my retinas.

2. Why on earth are people asking other people if they should return their ipads? The decision is up to you. If you have the defect, and it bothers you, then return it. Don't do it just because one or two strangers said that your cellphone picture doesn't look good.

3. To the guy that still doesn't understand why he's making a fool of himself by posting screenshots of the problem: no one is criticizing you because your screen is good or bad. It's because you are taking screenshots of a problem that won't be captured by screenshots! If you still haven't gotten it, then may god help you.

If your screen is good, then awesome. Enjoy it. Not sure why you are in here to begin with, or why you keep coming back. If it is to be a typical Apple fanboy to pop into a thread or discussion about a real problem, and to keep saying they don't have it, well...your actions are congruous with your logical reasoning.

This assumes that all people who have screen issues with the Air know about Macrumors at all. While it's a popular site amongst Mac enthusiasts, I'd venture a guess that *most* people have no idea it exists, whether or not they have defective iPads.

In fact there's a 6 page thread about this very issue right now on Apple's support forum. And there are people with iPads who don't even know that site exists.

This means there are potentially a LOT of people who have defective screens, who aren't writing about it at all.

As with the iPad 3, I've seen far more defective screens in person than good ones. This leads me to think that the issue is much wider spread than people are reporting, for the simple reason that most people don't notice it.

I work as a photo retoucher by trade. At our studio, we will hang 10 versions of the same image on the wall, each with extremely subtle differences in the treatment of color. If you are a retoucher or photographer by trade, or highly sensitive to color, you can easily pick out the one that's too blue, or too magenta, or too warm, etc. But the majority of the general public will merely see 10 identical images on the wall.

I returned mine because of this issue and Im waiting for the new mini. Since Samsung is making those displays rather than LG or Sharp, they should be just fine.

Do you have eyesight or reading comprehension problems? Did you not see the two CAMERA photos I posted after the screen shots? You have an issue with someone trying to calm people down, so maybe you need to get over that. There are people looking at this thread, and then asking "What should I look for to know if I have a problem?" That's my problem with this thread, although I don't doubt some people are having real issues.

I'll skip snide comments, and display the sort of manners you should have learned. ;)
