I got the iPad Air 128GB Verizon with serial number DMPLL. It is near perfect. Nothing in mass production is “perfect”. If there is a yellow tint on the left side horizontal, it is maybe 1%. Regarding the “book spine” shadow, same – 1% (if that). I can live with those minor flaws.

Mines a DMQLL and the screen is perfect, first one I bought was a DL unit and that had the yellow left side and dark line, my partners DM unit is also perfect. I also noticed dust under the glass on the DL unit, backlight bleed and some cosmetic flaws (scratches etc). DM & DL units are both made by Foxconn so maybe different lines or factories? Would be interesting to know if the dodgy screen are Samsung or LG?

I had a yellow left tinted DM.

I don't think it matters. You got lucky I reckon.

I had a 16GB T-mobile Silver DMPL serial number with both the shadow line, and the yellow tint on the left side of the screen.

Here is come comparison shots of my retina mini with my iPad Air. Judge for yourself.

IMO in some cases the Retina Mini is better looking while others the Air is.

I have the same impressions.

The iPad Air has more vibrant colors, but the color accuracy is a little off. Skin tones are yellow, blue lean to purple, and greens look neon (are these made by Samsung?)

The rMini has a little bit more muted colors, but they look more like the real life colors do.

As with every new iDevice , I'm sure you'd get used to either one after a while.

Edit: I just compared colors using this chart and I much prefer the Airs. Violet looks purple on the Air while it looks blue on the rMini.

1st Air- Yellow on left side
2nd- Yellow on left side
3rd- Perfect uniformity... Dead pixel

I might just return it and give up now.

Bought a 128 GB Ipad and the yellowing is terrible. The left side is a yellow white while the right side has a cooler, pinkish white. For a $1000 tablet I expect better quality. I went through 4 mac book pro last year because of screen issues and now this. I think QC has gone out the window with Apple.

iPad Air color tint

Here is a picture of my new iPad Air (left) and older iPad2 (right). The screen itself is evenly lit, but the tint is yellowish which makes skin tones look a little unnatural.

I think the one on the right has a bad pinkish tint. Its interesting that you were so used to that pink tint that you didn't even mention it; maybe you're being used to it makes the new iPad's warm screen appear worse to you than it is. To be fair I do see the yellowish tint you are talking about.

I would keep it. The odds are you'll learn to live with the dead pixel whereas if you return it, you may end up with an even worst screen.

Yeah, these pixels are so tiny that you really have to go looking for it to find it... hmmm. I'll try to deal with it for a week or so before I make a final decision.

Wow the iPad 2 on the right looks, frankly, disgusting. That air looks perfectly white to me. Very soothing on the eyes. Just remember one thing: when comparing to a very cool screen like the iPad 2, even a perfectly white screen will look "yellow" next to it. Indeed the best calibrated monitors look "yellow" to people seeing a truly calibrated monitor the first time. It's a rookie mistake that's made 10000 times everyday on this board.

Oh No!!!

Seems Apple have reacted to this yellow left side issue...
This is how my new iPad arrived yesterday!!!!!

And before anybody gets trigger happy and reports me for an OBVIOUS joke... IT'S A JOKE.

Always wondered what that monkey smoked.

He's been smoking the waiting for his new ipad tabaccy and getting antsy about it. They did tell me 5-7 working days and it's now been six and still no call from them. Waiting for my third and I'm getting used to my ipad 2 again. I'm also waiting for my replacement rMBP... sigh.

As for the Air v 2 up above... Does the air have the yellow tint on the left? It seems to be darker on the left whereas the 2 seems to be uniform across the screen. Could be the photo...

Can you post this wallpaper? Want to do some comparison shots.

I would keep it probably if u intend to jailbreak it in the future and ace tweak lets you change the temperature color, job sorted

btw your ipad 2 looks pinkish

Edit: upon closer inspection looks like you have the yellow tint more on left, i would return it

Totally warmer on the left, and darker too. Once you've seen a few of them, you can spot them a mile away.

Just to add to the confusion.

I've just bought a PiPo M6 Pro tablet for my mum to use and this tablet claims to have the exact same screen from an iPad 4th Gen by LG.

True or not I can't verify 100% but it is definitely same retina resolution as the iPad and apart from minor light bleeding on the edge where the buttons are the screen has a nice uniform tint and doesn't look that yellow.

It costs less than half of a equivalent iPad yet the screen they can get it right lol

I got an ipad air a few days ago online from isme in the Uk, the entire left side of the screen has a subtle yellow tint, most wouldn't notice it but it's inexcusable for how much I paid. If i book a genius appointment will they replace my device or will they not be convinced it's an issue? Anyone had luck getting theirs replaced in the UK?

isme is an Apple authorized retailer? What is their return policy? Are you asking if Apple will replace an iPad bought from another retailer? Doubtful. Unless they take it for repair under warranty. You can try, but I would try an exercise my option under the return policy of the retailer first. Tell them you don't like it (which is true). Then go buy another one from Apple. :D

I don't think they will as you didn't buy it from them.

I bought mine from Tesco and I phoned up my nearest Apple store and they said to be it would be best to return it to Tesco then come to us and buy one :D
