It's not a flaw ... It's just the way they are designed.
They are good panels, but they are targeted at a sub 500$ device, so they couldn't be like 2000$ professional monitors (and those still have "defects").
There are better and worse, but there isn't a thing like a perfect display.

It's silly to say "I'll buy another brand" since Apple isn't designing nor manufacturing any display, so there are good chances you are going to get a display from the same manufacturer on another brand tablet.

Then why do no other tablets that I've used, my phones, my side lit cheap pc monitor or my LCD TV'S have this issue? If its a design flaw it's most certainly contained to the air and the r mini and apple is simply incompetent.

The fact that some Airs are clearly better than others points to a problem with the assembly process somewhere in the sense of its ability to produce consistent devices.

They assemble the display which is more than likely where the issue occurs. And I was buying a $1000 iPad (128gb + 4g)... not some cheap tablet by any means.

Wrong.
It's not Apple to assemble the display, but the same Asian factory is assembling every tablet on the market.

Well I looked out of my window this morning and pigs were flying.

So I thought it was a good time to try to get a decent iPad Air.

Turns out it was a very good time to do so.

Got a flawless piece from a reseller....screen has a nice even temperature, neither too warm nor too cool....no screen bleed to speak of....no dead pixels.

I am pretty stunned as I was expecting the worst. What a pleasant surprise...finally, a glimpse of Apple the way I like to think of them.

Here's the specs:

Serial starts with DMRL.....

Nice Name: iPad Air (WiFi)
Machine Model: iPad4,1
Family name: A1474
Group1: iPad
Group2: Air
Generation:
CPU speed: 1.4GHz
Screen size: 9.7 inch
Screen resolution: 2048x1536 pixels
Colour: Space Gray
Production year: 2013
Production week: 49 (December)
Model introduced: 2013
Capacity: 16GB
Memory - flavour: xx
Factory: DM (China - Foxconn)

Hope all the guys disappointed so far manage to get a piece they're happy with. I certainly am....have not tested the safari crash issue yet but when I looked at diagnostics I could already see 3 crashes recorded, although I did not experience anything untoward. Hopefully ios 7.1 will bring some improvements.

1st Attempt: Bought ipad air...terrible yellow-to-white uneven screen...returned for refund.

2nd attempt: Refurb ipad 4...terrible screen...exchanged.

3rd attempt: Refurb ipad 4....home button crapped out....returned for refund.

4th attempt....Ipad Air...Jackpot! :)

They got a better display, not a perfect one.
It could be less noticeable, on some units, and more on other.

Exactly. No one here is looking for a perfect display or something that doesn't exist like you said earlier.

The issue is the amount of Airs that need to be purchased before getting a decent one. You know something is wrong when you read posts from buyers who feel they got lucky because they got a good one. Getting a good screen shouldn't feel like a lottery.

By that logic, Apple isn't responsible for anything since, technically, they don't make anything; "Asian factories" do.

Didn't say that.
I just said that expecting something different from other brand is silly , because they are using same sources and mainly same factories.

I only see complains from a bunch of picky users in this and a few other forums.
iPad Air is a big commercial success for millions and millions of other people.

As a disclaimer I repeat: I'm not speaking about people with real problems here, like very strong light bleeding, or dead pixels and so on ....
I'm only speaking about the ridiculous issue of "bookspine" and unevenly tinted displays that are just perfectly functional ....

So we should accept book spine and uneven tinting? Are you kidding me?

A badly uneven tinted display is just as big a problem as backlight bleeding or dead pixels.

There's not much more for you to discuss here. You're not going to convince anyone that they are seeing things and you will never believe there is a problem unless Apple make an announcement, which will never happen. You would be better off just starting a new thread dedicated to praising the Air.

Air screen defect?

Gents please don't waste your time replying to his non sense he doesn't even understand what he says himself. Sounds like he forgot to take his pills and fell again in his OCD about that thread.
There definitely no point trying to explain things that had been explained many time already, he's just clueless , and it's actually pretty sad to see guys like that attempting to get an audience here. Must be a very lonely person in real life.
Just take it easy Max, yes, our iPads work like a charm, that's so cool and we re happy ...everything is going to be alright.

Well said my friend.

Exactly why I returned mine for a refund.

For the life of me, I don't understand why people like Max(IT) have such a HUGE PROBLEM with iPad users on this forum who have noticed the book spine shadow, yellow tint, and back light bleed and are disappointed in the quality control of Apple.

I don't get it either. They try their absolute hardest to try and discount, minimalise, or attack anyone who has issues with this disappointing device and its quality control.

[MOD NOTE]
Lets stay on topic. The last few posts were removed as they were not germane to the subject matter.

I returned my 16 GB iPad Air because of screen issues a while ago… Finally went back to get a 32 GB model today, and it has an absolutely flawless screen!

Why is Bookspine Ridiculous?

Personally I think your statement is ridiculous and simply wrong. But hey, we all are allowed to have opinions.
