Rolls eyes. Oy, Apple.....I love ya but....

Assuming I get AP2 and what it means, haven't I been able to sort of do this from my Mac all this time? So I can't do this from my iPhone, I hardly if ever airplay from my iOS devices anyway.

well there it is... apple said "this year" not "this spring." too much to hope that it would arrive this spring with 11.3, and now unfortunately I suspect this feature will slip to iOS 12 in September.

as a longtime Apple user (starting with the very first Mac in '84), a decade long iPhone user, and now owner of two HomePods it remains unbelievable to me Apple with all of its incredible resources and talent has failed to deliver a feature available in Sonos products for ten years. ugh.

At this point, I kind of just hope iOS 11 and High Sierra last another year, instead of leaving bugs behind and features behind that were announced almost a year ago.

One can wish.

Yup, available in all their competitors for some time now: Sonos, Echo and Google Home.

and the thing is obviously the competitors won't stand still... Apple is trying to stand tall on HomePod's audio quality, trust me by fall Amazon will be launching a premium speaker Echo device that will claim to have the sound quality of the HomePod for $199-249. will Siri have the abilities of Alexa by Christmas?

Your assuming iOS12 will be in September! Remember that Apple has said they are going to delay major updates to iOS and MacOS so they can concentrate on fixing the current os’s. iOS12 may be quite a while

I purchased HomePod on day 1 thinking AirPlay 2 and stereo were just around the corner with iOS 11.3 (pretty niave, yes) I will be returning my HomePod today before the 14 day return window expires on Friday. This was the nail in the coffin for me. After also *not* being able to have two HomePods in the same house each with their own iCloud account, the HomePod just isn’t ready for sale yet. Shame, because I love the audio quality and design.

Slightly off topic, but so many iOS features get released and then forgotten. Continuity, universe cut and paste, keychain syncing, beacons etc. Almost everything that relies on iCloud is buggy and unreliable. I expect the same will be true of Messages in iCloud.

Was thinking of buying a HomePod, my decision just became a lot easier.

Spoiler - I wouldn't even consider buying a HomePod until Airplay 2 is available.

iOS 12 will be in September. 100% for sure. apple WILL launch new iPhones in fall (they will NEVER, EVER, NOT... Cook would be fired instantly if they failed to do so) and iOS 12 will be on them even if iOS 12 is just a rebranded 11.4 lol.

As a Sonos owner I want Spotify. And I shall have it once I cancel my AM subscription. Just tired of waiting on Apple. Always waiting for something. Used to be worth the wait. Not anymore, not even close.

Thanks fandroid. Like you could afford AM. LOL.

By this FALL??? I'd bet by about May-June at the latest.

Amazon does not need months to change speaker hardware. That's actually much easier than- say- making Siri as relatively smart as Alexa. Let's hope for progress on THAT by next fall... though I fear that's probably more of a 2020 or so dream.

I didn't realize that AirPlay 2 had so much more additional functionality. Whenever it is released, does anyone know if you'll be able to set up your Apple TV as a part of a scene? I would love to have my TV turn on and start playing music when I come home.

Those are the types of features that once set Apple products apart from the competition. Apple waited too long to get in the game then only put in a few chips so to speak. HomeKit in my opinion is the best home automation platform. Apple needs to put serious resources behind it. The HomePod should work with scenes and automations. You should be able to tell Siri to turn on your Apple TV.

Apple is starting to buckle under the pressure of meeting software quality objectives.

This is turning them into another company that paper-launches products or launches them with great delay that when they're finally done/released there is no excitement left for the achievement.

What if... you announce when it's almost ready, not a year away from ready?

Multi device airplay 2 was working fine from my pair of appletv's and iphone! Guess I turn off auto update as long as I can.
