Happy HomePod owner here, but this made me laugh as well. Kudos!

Apple has got some good technologies, but in recent years they haven't developed or advanced them any further. eg When Apple made routers, the Airport Express had Airplay and it worked well. Its now clear Tim Cook is taking Apple down a different route. Though, some things they have done like the W1/W2 chip is very good.

Wi-fi treaming your music to multiple devices in multiple rooms is the next game changer, but not even ready? Good thing my Squeezebox system with Logitech media server is still going strong, and even sends music to my devices on Ipeng!

As many problems as Apple has with Bluetooth, its no wonder they can't get Airplay 2 right. Networking has never been Apple's strong suit. I remember when they replaced DNS responder with their own code, then after 2 years of failed attempts to get it working well, had to revert back to BSD code.

Does Airplay 2 improve any functionality Airplay 1 currently has? I have a lot of issues where Airplay connections from my iPad to my Apple TV just drops, doesn't load, or takes forever to load and buffer a saved video on my Mac/iPad/iPhone.

If it isn’t ready then don’t ship it. My wife and I both have issues using AirPlay from our iPhones to our Apple TV. She used to have a 5s, I used to have a 6s and we both upgraded to the iPhone X yet nothing has changed. Sometimes it works flawlessly, other times it’ll sputter but if you retry it’ll work and other times we restart the device to fix it. It’s been that way since I bout the ATV 4.

Apple should include a “feature” to restart the device daily. Lol...

I’m returning my homepods. I got them thinking AirPlay 2 was just around the corner but can’t risk going past the 14 day return policy. I’ll switch back to Sonos, it was rock solid. I just really wanted to support Apple here since I try to be an Apple purist but in this arena I don’t think I’ll be able to do it.

I guess being in control of both the hardware and software adds no benefit if Apple is having so many delays and problems with these new features.

Only if the sole reason to be in control of both hardware and software is to avoid delays (or even a reason).

AirPlay 2, above all else, is them advancing AirPlay.

I don't think so.

It was just really buggy, so instead of constantly getting thousands of unnecessary bug reports and questions about it, Apple simply removed it temporarily. They'll put it back when it's more stable and meaningful for developers.
This is a beta. The third beta and 6th week working toward a .x release. Usually when a feature is as unstable as it was and it is pulled mid-beta, it’s gone. For a while at least.

Amazing how this online retailer can play garbage music on garbage speakers in sync. The future we live in!
