Whether cook or someone else. When maps was a joke Scott forstall got the axe-a move that I still support. Given the more 'normal' this behavior is at Apple, perhaps it needs to go higher.

*it wasn't entirely due to maps, although it didn't help him-there was some internal issues between essentially two camps in Apple- Ive vs Forstall.
All I want is for Apple to address the delay.... I don't need to know what's broken but give us some confidence they are working on get this released. Is it that hard? Too secretive

I've got a brilliant idea. How about using wires? The sound quality will be exceptional and no charging is required. A true recolutionary development. You saw it here first.
Brilliant. Then we could go back to wires on the phones too. Better quality sound, no charging required. Truly revolutionary. You could even put them on every street corner for people on the move. Put a shelter over the top to keep the rain off. Maybe some walls, perhaps a sort of upright box, to provide privacy. iPhones totally lack that too.

It's owning up to a mistake. Remember when Steve, Tim and Phil took on the audience/press during antennagate-that's quenched much of the perceived consumer anxiety, as well as the iPhone bumper program (come to think of it didn't they do a similar press deal with maps or maybe just a letter, that Scott refused to participate in?). Apple could save a lot of face by being straight with the customers-this is an announced product it's not a secrecy deal, granted I'd wish they'd address what is going on with the Pro too.

The updated text in this article makes sense. Everyone who had a pre-release pair didn't encounter the issues that are originally stated in WSJ's clickbait article.

If pre-release AirPods didn't have them, why would final-release AirPods have them? Hopefully this means there are no issues with these and that they'll be released very soon.

Wait - I thought all you people defending the removal of the 3.5mm jack said that wireless is so much better? No dropouts and no need for wires!

If it's so great, how come the people who ripped out the jack can't seem to make it work?

we don't know that he rushed it. we don't know what happened. Apple hasn't said anything official, this is all speculation. I think its just ridiculous the people here complaining about not getting a product for Christmas. Real nice 1st world problem to have. It's a shame you all have food but not wireless ear buds.

Yes there was the official announcement that it will be soon sold with iPhone 7 during iPhone 7 presentation. Nope not about 1st world problem here.

If those airPods are made out of slick plastic material no way will they stay in my ear while doing physical activity and I'll bet that will be a problem with a lot of people.

I think Apple is just trying their best to make these ready for prime time.

Look at reviews for others on the market, flawed one way or another.

I'm not aware of any tech company that discusses unreleased product issues relating to technical problems. Do you know of any tech companies that do?

If only everything was that simple. The sync problems may be intermittent, unit specific etc. Obviously we do not know the truth but the manufacturing issues hypothesis is just as difficult to believe in. It's not like these headphones are some engineering marvels that the subcontractors just can't manufacture them. They just have a custom Apple chip, that's all.

What the hell more do you need? There was an email that Tim Cook wrote to a potential customer that was publicized a couple weeks back stating the AirPods would be released in a few weeks. Did you miss it? Do you need him to set up a press conference? I swear the world is devolving fast. The movie Idiocracy is proving to be prophetic!

This is the truth.

Apple Watch Series 2 isn't that much different from gen 1. Other than that I would say mostly true.

I wonder if problems syncing with the sub woofer might be causing the delay.

Maybe they should have had these completely ready to go before removing the headphone jack on their phone?
Are you implying these are the only wireless earbuds available on the market? Think before you post, people.

Lol at all the people who rushed in to reply prior to John Gruber weighing in on the issue. Their responses of quality assurance lacking at Apple really sound hollow and ridiculous next to his findings of manufacturing issues.
